My main bugbear was the quality of the video projection. We saw Pulp Fiction, and the screen resolution was well below what I expect at any cinema nowadays, along with fast motion smeering. Looked what i would expect from a dated video projector. Audio quality was good. I had a reasonable view, although partner told me afterwards that even though she is 5'10"that she still struggled to see over the people in front (seat raking as others have said).

That said, legroom was excellent and the sound system good.

It seemed that the evening showing was timetabled end on end with the afternoon showing - so there was waiting around in the rather crowded foyer for the guests of the previous showing to leave, then for the cleaners to do their bit. Staff were all perfectly polite and helpful.

All in all its nothing special though. Go to your local art house cinema instead.

I was bought the Cinema experience by my partner as the venue holds a particular interest to us both.

Steeped in criminal history the place is amazing with the old cells being small private booths by the bar still sporting the original door fixtures and fittings.

The free Bellini was a little flavourless but hit the spot.

The cinema was smaller than we thought but very clean. I do suggest if your small in stature get to the front of the queue and sit at the front.

A good enjoyable evening. Major downside was the state of the ladies. This point not having been tested by myself.

Anyway if you like criminal history it's a must

We love cinema, and enjoy watching old films, so when someone gave us a gift voucher for the Courthouse Cinema which included two champagne cocktails, we thought it sounded like a lovely idea. Having checked their website, we selected our preferred film (Chariots of Fire) and rang to make the booking. All perfectly fine thus far.

On the day of the booking, we arrived as instructed an hour before the film was due to start and traded our voucher in for a token for the drinks and another for the cinema. I was a little disappointed by our greeting which was quite perfunctory, and even more disappointed by the bar which is surprisingly shabby for a 5 star hotel - seats are worn and a bit grubby and the service was chaotic. We presented our voucher at the bar and asked for details of the available cocktails - the answer was champagne with peach or champagne with strawberry, or champagne on its own!

Having taken our drinks to a table, we noticed that my glass had an enormous crack running down it so my husband took it to the bar and it was replaced. Glasses crack, obviously, but you expect more from a 5 star establishment. As time passed, people started pouring into the bar, most of them clutching vouchers like ours. Soon the place was very crowded with seats rarer than hens' teeth - thanks goodness we arrived when we did or we wouldn't have been able to sit.

My biggest disappointment came when the cinema opened 5 minutes before the film was due to start. For something that calls itself a cinema club, I thought there might have been a short intro to the film from a member of staff, giving background info, Oscar nominations/wins etc but no, there was nothing at all. We were left to choose our own seats which were comfortable enough but as others have said, are all on the same level so you're stuffed if the person in front of you is tall - this happened to me so I spent the duration of the film leaning slightly to my left so that I could see the screen. It was also extremely stuffy in the cinema.

In fairness, I will say that I adored being able to see one of my all-time favourite films on a big(ish) screen once again.

In summary, I think the idea is excellent but it's let down in the execution. With a bit more effort, it could be a fun and memorable experience but as it stands, I wouldn't go again and wouldn't recommend it to friends.

Cinema and Cocktails experience received as a gift. Absolutely awful. The decor is naff, the staff utterly clueless - none of them had the least idea how to make a cocktail. The cocktails on offer were of the simplest type and served with no joy whatsoever. My Peach Bellini was warm and bore no resemblance to an actual Bellini! This is a £25 per head ‘experience’. Cynical offer to make money with no intention of giving you anything joyful or entertaining. Cinema sun standard as described by other reviews. Steer clear.

I bought the champagne cinema experience for two as a birthday present and it was an utter disappointment. The foyer had no atmosphere, it was quiet and empty. Our glass of champagne wasn’t in a champagne glass. We were told we couldn’t eat in the cinema- surely that’s part of going to the cinema?! The tables to put our drinks on in the cinema weren’t level and so we had to put our drinks on the floor. The cinema itself is cheap with no luxurious feel whatsoever. The picture quality was poor. I could have had a more enjoyable experience at any other cinema and for half the price. Utterly disappointed. Do not recommend!

Got a virgin experience cinema experience for two with a glass of champagne each. The hotel itself it’s lovely, as is the bar we waited in. However when walking into the bar there was a strong toilet smell which was very off putting.

The cinema experience itself is a complete rip off. The seats were very uncomfortable (normal cinema seats are more comfortable!). They were completely upright and slightly padded with foam maybe? The side tables that are connected to the seats are slanted down so you can’t even put a drink on them!! The ‘armrests’ they speak about are no better than normal cinema one, if not slightly smaller.

The cinema seats 100 people, we decided to sit at the back as that is usually where people go for the best viewing, what a mistake that was. The room is not slanted enough for a clear viewing of the screen, therefore wherever you sat you had everyone else’s heads in front of the screen. The screen itself was quite small and was at the bottom of the slant instead of being situated higher, like a normal cinema would. As the film started we noticed a ‘Play’ button in the corner...which made it seem like they had just put a DVD on. The sound quality was poor also, as if they had just put a DVD on... just on a slightly higher volume.

Overall I was highly disappointed with this experience. The description they had given is highly misleading. They should not be describing it as luxurious, a normal cinema is 10x better!! I would have expected a hell of a lot more effort from a high end hotel.

We visited the Courthouse Hotel for a Champagne Cinema Evening for Two having been given a Virgin Experience Days Voucher as a present.
Having arrived and asked at reception for information we were told to "go to the bar and ask anyone". Not very impressive from a 5 star london hotel reception staff.
On reaching the bar we handed in our voucher and waited while the barman disappeared and returned with 2 glasses of champagne which in my mind is not the same as " a delicious champagne cocktail".
On taking a seat we realised that we had not been given a ticket to enter the cinema and had to return to ask for one. Again unimpressive service.
The cinema expereience was spoiled by the incredibly loud volume that was deafening and after putting up with it for an hour we decided to leave early as several other couples had.
Only positive was that we were staying in a different part of London so had not booked the hotel for accomodation and would not return to this hotel in the future.

Dear E4707ITstevens, Thank you for you feedback! I am very disappointed to hear your feedback about the service in the bar and this will surely be investigated. Would you be so kind to inform me which day you visited the cinema so I can also speak to our projectionist on the volume issue. Best Regards,

Nice idea! Small, intimate cinema showing classic films every Saturday. Champagne cocktail to welcome you and you can take any drink you like into the cinema. A different night out in London.

If you are ever thinking about hiring the Courthouse Private Cinema for a screening - don't! We had a terrible experience with defective sound projection. The hotel admitted the fault but refused to give any compensation or discount, even though they advertise themselves as a high-end professional facility. We had an audience of industry professionals and it was extremely disappointing, not to mention the utter discourtesy with which the hotel treated our subsequent complaint. Avoid at all costs.

We visited last night and had read the mixed reviews on here but being absolutely honest I dont know what people were unhappy about. We saw Rebel without a cause, now I dont know if it was on dvd or not as I never saw a play arrow but even if it was thats fine as the chance to see the film on the big well maybe medium screen in a cinema setting was what it was all about. Yes the airline style tables do tilt towards you and you cant put a drink on them so we just put the drinks on the floor! The place is clean and smart, the cinema is small and intimate and the staff really friendly and helpful and a chance to sit in an old jail cell and have a glass of bubbly was a real novelty. I would definately recommended and we are planning to go back and see another old film that we never got the chance to see at the cinema.
