Neighborhood: Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.

- Karen WNetley, United Kingdom199 contributionsOnly one WinstonThis incredible man took the might of the German army and won, he saved this country for the evils of Hitler. A born leader and a great orator. He's speeches live on to this day being quoted again and again. He gave this country his blood sweat and toil. Unveiled in 1973 by his beloved wife Baroness Clementine Churchill. Churchill himself located the spot. In his 1950's speech he refered to the spot as " Where my Statue Will Go. - Nicholas HLondon, United Kingdom20,576 contributionsThe statue with the mohicanHow does a sculpture manage to make a statue look as pugnacious and as irascible as its subject? A piece of great artistic skill. This monument captures the essence of one of Britain’s great figures, faults and all. Erected in 1973 and unveiled by Churchill’s widow, it was famously modified during one of the many subsequent protests in Parliament Square by having a strip of grass turf put on top of its head, creating the perfect image of a Mohican hairstyle. Probably the most iconic of the many statues in the Square and an absolute must see for tourists and Londoners alike.Visited January 2020Traveled soloWritten January 9, 2020
- Ian CLondon, United Kingdom23,970 contributionsOne of Europe's great heroesThe powerful commanding statue of Churchill is the first one you see on crossing to Parliament Square from the Houses of Parliament. Quite right too, given his importance to British and indeed European history. If you are visiting, start with Churchill and also explore the other statues here among the trees.Visited July 2020Traveled soloWritten July 23, 2020
- AlexanderDJackson, New Jersey4,612 contributionsImportant MemorialSay what you want about Churchill. He was a deeply flawed man. But he was also the right combination of pig-headed stubbornness, moral clarity, and courage to lead his nation during the greatest crisis in British (and European) history. In the seemingly-hopeless months of 1940, his words rallied a people to hold the line against ultimate evil. All that is good and happy about modern Europe (the “broad, sunlit uplands” he described in his “Finest Hour” speech) is largely due to him. Take a moment to admire his statue.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 17, 2023

It is appropriate that he is facing the Houses of Parliament so he can keep an eye on all the current MP's. Hopefully they will bear this in mind and behave honourably. Sadly when I visited the statue was covered with bird poo. I hope someone cleans it up.Visited February 2020Written February 9, 2020
- SimeyWimeyWhitstable, United Kingdom768 contributionsGreat photo.Statue that captures Churchill well I think. Lots of mixed feelings about the man, he did like a drink. Johnny Walker red label was popular. And champagne. I like his quote “A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject”. Plenty of them around Westminster these days I’m afraid.Visited January 2020Written January 5, 2020

- SandygrannySandy, United Kingdom964 contributionsAn impressive statue of a great statesman. This impressive Listed Grade II bronze statue by Ivor Roberts-Jones is the best-known one in Parliament Square. Standing on a granite pedestal in the north-east corner of the square, this larger than life statue is situated exactly where Sir Winston Churchill wanted it to be, overlooking the Houses of Parliament and the Elizabeth Tower (aka Big Ben). Statues of seven other important statesmen can be seen in Parliament Square, mostly British Prime Ministers as well as US President Abraham Lincoln and South African President Nelson Mandela. The statue was very clean when we viewed it, there does not seem to be a problem with pigeons. There is said to be an electric current running through it, which would explain why it is so clean.Visited April 2017Traveled as a coupleWritten May 7, 2017

Nice statue of Mr. Churchill. He stands facing Parliament and Westminster Bridge. There's typically a crowd in this region so it can be tricky to get a decent photograph.

This bronze sculpture of Winston Churchill stands in Parliament Square. It is one of 8 statues here and stands in a spot which he choose himself.

A fantastic monument to a great leader. Instantly recognisable in greatcoat with cane. I was a little surprised at how large the statue is, I thinks it's befitting of the character of his leadership.
