Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.

The menu had only 2 vegetarian options, a salad and a vegan roast. I ordered the salad but they said they were out of it. I did not want to order the roast therefore I ended up ordering a starter, the salmon with rye bread and a side, broccoli. the starter was barely 1 slice of bread with a few slices of smoked salmon and I was charged 7.50 pounds for just that. The side of broccoli was just as disappointing; it was just steamed with no salt, no seasoning and nothing at all. My family ordered roast beef and the meat was somewhat hard according to them, and the yorkshire pudding was burnt. Also, I wanted to order an apple crumble dessert and they were out of that too. I don't know if it was just a bad day for them and we were unlucky, as they had good reviews on google. `

Lovely , quirky pub with decent beer .
A couple of screens up between tables which are definitely needed .
However zero social distancing at the bar even with signage in place .
More worryingly people came and left tables and not one table or bench were wiped down or sanitised. Glasses were taken and beer mates turned over . Tables and chairs just left without any wiping down by the Barman .
It wasn’t even busy which made it more difficult to comprehend the lack of competency from the barman .
Surely this is a basic procedure and requirement during these complex times . ?

Popped in and had a bottle of red wine on my way back to Aldgate East Tube, nice place with plenty of character. Just as word of warning please be careful outside the pub as there are clearly criminal gangs operating and this was quite evident, begging is also rife in this area.

A good old fashioned pub with a twist. They have a Thai chef serving up some amazing Thai dishes. Food was extremely nice.

Had an amazing time. I ate/drank here every night I was in London! It was just around the corner from my flat. It’s part of the Jack the Ripper tours, as one of the suspects used to work/live here. A lot of tours start here or nearby.
If you see one of the guides-dressed in period clothing & kind of Looks like Johnnie Depp, his name is Johnnie-buy him a drink & he will entertain you for hours!
Proprietor of the pub is kind of a jerk, but his staff are wonderful!

Had a great time in this lovely pub, loved trying some unusual bottled lager. My son lost his wallet and it was handed in with contents still intact, amazing and surprising honesty in this current climate.

This pub has a really good atmosphere. Wasn't overly crowded the Thursday I went at around 6 p.m. Well kept beer.

We stopped in while waiting to go on a walking tour at around 5:45 and it was fairly empty as I don't think there were any matches on. We had some lovely food and were pleasantly surprised to find the Thai options on the menu as well as the more normal chips and chicken options normally in a pub. The service was relatively quick and the staff were very friendly. The bathroom was a bit cramped and the doors did stick, and there was no toilet paper but as there has been a sudden rush of people going in there probably hadn't been anyone in to check yet. Still lovely little place to stop.

Traditional, authentic old boozer. Husband and I had a pint here prior to our Jack Ripper tour for atmospheric purposes. Smoking area at rear of pub, and comfortable enough. Would love to return one day, very cosy. Love the old English pubs.

This is a proper, old fashioned English boozer which we loved (spit and sawdust, none of that poncey gastropub nonsense here!) You can get a good pint of beer and just sit and chat. The barman is a little serious but I didn't find him rude, I think that's just his manner. The food looked and smelt amazing, we guessed homemade by the Thai gentleman bringing the food to the tables. If we hadn't had somewhere else to go, we'd have eaten, it smelt that good! This is real London, please don't change!
