This is a small jazz place where Dave Holland himself has come to play. It's got a good vibe and crowd, volunteers and a non profit feel. Organisers are heroes for serving live jazz almost every day for decades and worth congrats. BUT this is...More

This Thurs the Leo Richardson band played a terrific set, very enjoyable indeed. We had not booked in advance, just turned up at 8pm, and it was packed with all tables taken. So it was lucky we got a couple of spare chairs at the...More

I went to see Joe Hills Jazz last Wednesday at The Vortex for the first time. It opened at 8pm and as we were unsure whether we could eat there or not we had a snack beforehand and then discovered a coffee shop underneath the...More

This place is fantastic. Went recently and listened to a fab Jazz quintet, great atmosphere and exactly what you would would expect in terms of drinks. Miles away from any sort of shiny, overwrought city nonsense and perfect for a fun evening. Will be back!

Entry will require a 17-digit alphanumeric code, name, postcode, signature and photographic ID. Gig advertised at 8pm, but on...More

Visited The Vortex to see some live jazz, the venue was small and everything a person could want from a jazz club. The jazz (though not to my taste) was well produced with the perfect volume for the acoustics available in the first floor club....More

So let me set the scene - the Vortex is a London jazz institution. Formed in Stoke Newington about 30 years ago it relocated to this slightly insalubrious square in Dalston about 10 years ago. The venue is atmospheric, although very cramped and functional. The...More

This small venue in hipster Dalston is an authentic newish Old Skool Jazz venue, Its quite compact which means even at a sellout gig you are still close to the stage and the acoustics are great, as it should be for jazz, you can really...More
