The area
Neighborhood: Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.

It's worth the climb
Sep 2019
St. Paul's Church is well worth the visit. It provides two visions of England, one of them from Queen Victoria, and lots of history. And, don't miss the climb to the top of the church for breathtaking views after you get your breath back from climbing the steps.

Stuck in the middle!

Hard to find with all the building around it. The front looks more like a bank. Organ inside is very powerful and commanding sound. Stained glass excellent.

Free Concert
Sep 2018 • Couples
Came to hear a free coral concert. It has a lovely atmosphere and very historical. If you look at the boards recalling previous vergers they go back years and have some very impressive names.

Do walk in... and hope the organ is playing

It was for us, so appropriate for Handel's church. What an elegant edifice, both outside and inside. Such a dignified and restrained break from all the opulence around.

Handel's church
Mar 2018 • Solo
St.George's, Hanover Square is an elegant building in the heart of Mayfair, which was constructed as a result of the 1711 act to build 50 new churches in London's burgeoning suburbs. The church has so much history associated with it, as you can tell by reading the names of the past church wardens. Many famous people have worshipped here, the most famous of all being George Frideric Handel who lived nearby on Brook Street, now the site of the museum "Handel & Hendrix in London". It is fitting that the church is the main venue for the annual London Handel Festival which takes place in March/April with a series of evening concerts, lunchtime recitals, walks and talks. The splendid painting of the Last Supper behind the altar is by William Kent.

A delightful West End church!
Jul 2017 • Couples
During our most recent stay in London, we enjoyed several walks through the city's West End.
While partaking in one of those walks, we happened upon St. George's Church, one of very many churches to be found in central London.
The small church caught our attention with its impressive columned facade and intricate bell tower. We were fortunate that the church was open at the time of our visit and we were able to take a brief look inside.
The interior of the church is beautifully decorated and has impeccable fixtures and fittings.
We were certainly glad that we took a few minutes to have a look at this delightful church!

So peaceful

Visited at George's for a moment of respite, I was feeling a bit under pressure with a lot going on.

It was such a beautiful church, so quiet and restful, I lost track of time while contemplating...

Lovely just to be able to do that

Visited as I was passing and was struck by the beauty of the interior, the wood is stunning and the history is very obvious.
I was delighted to find that the organist was practising whilst I was there, and they were astonishingly gifted

Annual Handel festival
Apr 2017 • Family
St Georges Church is an Anglican church and is the parish church of Mayfair. It was built between 1921-24. The interior is lovely with Flemish stained glass windows and a "Last Supper" painting by William Kent framing the reredos. This church is the home to the annual London Handel Festival.
