About
Guided walks throughout the London area in which we examine various aspects of life in Wartime London, looking at incidents from the Battle of Britain, the Blitz and the V-Weapons campaign and how these impacted upon people at the time. All of our walks are supported by archive photos for a 'then and now' perspective, period 'props' for the group to inspect as well as many eye-witness personalaccounts that help bring the tours to life. We advertise walks that are available for pre-booking on our website, or we can cater for private groups if preferred.

Steve was amazing, our group was the only ones taking the tour that day. We had my husbands 85 year old mom with us in a wheelchair. He was able to accommodate her and she told me later it was the highlight of her trip, I can't thank you enough for that Steve. She was particularly excited to hear about the Air Wardens as she remembered them from her youth in New Jersey. Steve takes his time and was very patient with us, we learned a lot about London during WWII and today. We'll take a tour of his again when we return. It also didn't hurt that it was a beautiful day to walk around London. Steve was also great with communicating with me before and giving great directions.

I would highly recommend Steve's tours to anyone interested in London area history. His style is engaging and informed, yet witty all at once. The way Steve uses quotes and photographs at various stops on the tour makes it easy to transport yourself back in time and imagine what daily life was like at that exact spot. I'd spent time in London before this tour but was still impressed by how much I learned!

Many thanks to Steve for a truly fantastic afternoon!

My son and I took the Westminster at War walk with Blitzwalkers in late June 2014.

The group met Steve outside Victoria Station. The tour took about 3.5 hours at ended at St Clement Danes Church.

We were very pleased with the tour. The strength of this tour is not necessarily the buildings that you see, but the stories about World War II, the hidden remnants of the War that you see, the period pictures Steve shows and the artifacts that he passes around. For non-locals like us, it was also a chance to see parts of London we had not previously visited.

This is a walking tour. We did not enter any buildings. Our tour took longer than the standard tours as our group moved rather slowly. Steve did not force the issue, he adjusted to our pace. We had 11 in our group. Steve knew the names of all 11 and spoke to everyone by name. We all had a chance to walk along with Steve between locations and ask questions or just converse. We had a great group to talk with. My son wanted to talk football with the English chaps. A few of the group that had been to the US, wanted to talk baseball with us.

Steve would pass around pictures at each stop. He also passed around various artifacts including pieces of shrapnel, an ARP pin and an air raid warden helmet (several tried it on).
At Victoria Station, Steve started with a story of a RAF pilot who was forced to bail out near the Station and the story of his rescue. We walked past Westminster Cathedral and stopped at the current Westminster City Hall. Steve pointed out all the new buildings in this area as the entire block had been bombed during World War II.

We moved out to Blewcoat School, used by the US Army during the War. Steve pointed out where the words US Army were carved in to the brick of the school.

We stopped at the Caxton Hall where Churchill delivered some speeches during the War. We saw an old air raid shelter on Queen Anne’s Gate while Steve talked about the roles of the Air Raid Wardens and passed around the helmet.

We stopped at the Guards Chapel and heard about the V1 bombing in 1944 that struck during services and killed 121 soldiers and civilians. It was the most deadly V1 attack on London.

We walked through St. James Park, stopping to use the restrooms before reaching the Horse Guard Parade and the Guards Memorial. Next was the site of the German Embassy prior to the War and a story about Leopold von Hoesch, the German ambassador from 1932 until his death in 1936. Steve told us of von Hoesch’s disapproval of many of Hitler’s actions. We saw the memorial to von Hoesch’s dog Giro.

We stopped at Carlton Gardens and the house where De Gaulle establish the headquarters of the Free French Forces. Steve told us the story of the first broadcast to France from the location.

We moved on through Trafalgar Square and stopped at St. Martin in the Fields church, site of an air raid shelter. We stopped outside of the Savoy Hotel for some more stories before moving on to St. Clement Danes, the Royal Air Force church and the end of the tour. The church is beautiful inside and worth the time to explore on your own after the tour ends.

We would consider another tour with Blitzwalkers if we make it back to London. They offer several tours. We strongly recommend e-mailing Steve from their website to get details.

We spent a delightful 2 3/4 hours with Steve on Tuesday of this week and it was tremendous. The tour was so imformative and interesting. The time past too quickly! We have walked by several of the sites previously but Steve pointed out things that we never would have known. It added so much to our understanding.

One of the aspects we appreciated was Steve's story telling. He really put into context the things we were looking at, and that was invaluable. The pace was easy and the content was excellent.

It certainly was one of the highlights of our UK trip and is certainly recommended.

I led a student group to the U.K. and Germany to study WWII, and this was one of the activities I scheduled. The next time I do this, I will definitely make this tour a part of the program again.

Steve was wonderful. He walked over 2.5 hours with us all over historic places in London. He was knowledgeable and fun. All of the college students with me kept talking about this tour for the rest of the trip. The little historical details about things like pets as well as the historical pictures made the tour a great deal of fun.

I would highly recommend this tour. I have been to London several times and going on this tour was one of the best things I have ever done. Steve was great to work with. Due to the time constraints of my recent trip, a regular tour wasn't scheduled, but Steve went out of his way to make one happen. Also, the terrorist incident occurred a few days before and Steve went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable attending. The tour was informative and personal. I gained a deeper understanding of the Blitz and life in London during the War because of this tour.

We had Steve take us around for about three hours pointing out where different things happened during the Blitz of WWII. There isn't a whole lot of things to see and much has been repaired or replaced over the years. We took a private tour which made it more expensive but we would have been just as happy with a group tour. If you love WWII and like history, then this tour would be a good option.

We were looking for something outside the usual museums and cathedral tours when we found the website for Blizwalkers. Stevan was a wealth of information and with his personal stories and memorabilia you really got the sense of London and the residents living here during WWII. Highly recommend this tour.

I have been on two blitzwalks, both times with Steve. The walks take in areas of london that you may be familiar with but Steves stories, photos and memorabilia bring it to life in a brand new way. If you love history, this is the day out for you.
