Surprisingly good

Great selection of interesting ales and ciders. Good food, absolutely fantastic if you plump for the classic burger - out of this world good

Fantastic beer list and relaxed vibe.
May 2019 • Couples
Cannot recommend this relaxed pub enough. Affordable delicious food (guinea fowl is a recurring theme) and a fantastic beer list. All local/British beer.

great spot for real/craft ales and more

Went for a drink after visiting the nearby Gatehouse Theatre. This is a great spot for real/craft ales and more. Its a sort of no frills place but lots of character and premium drinks choice.

Excellent craft beer and food
Oct 2018 • Friends
I have been frequenting this pub for just over two years now and I must say it's my favourite pub in North London.

The choice of beers on offer are fantastic and all from small independent breweries, that are often rotated. Beer is always excellent quality and it's nice to try something different each time.

The kitchen offers a different food each month and I've never had any bad food from here.

Highly recommended whether it be for a full night or a stop on a pub crawl - great bar.

A pint of ordinary
Oct 2018 • Solo
According to the window display, this pub has been voted the best alehouse in London. Contentious? Yes. My 1pm lunchtime visit left me as a solitary customer and the beer I was served was cloudier than an autumn evening in a rainforest. I left two thirds of my pint and headed downhill to a refreshing glass or two of wine in Cote.

Beware short pint measures!
Jul 2018 • Friends
Met up with friends here on their recommendation. However I was served 3 pints of cask ales significantly short of the top of the glass. I asked the barman to top them up, which he did, but they were still short. When I asked again, he said the glasses were marked, and that the pint measure was to the top of the rectangle on the CE mark. I have subsequently asked about this in other pubs and have been told each time this is incorrect, and that the rectangle indicates the glass's year of manufacture, not the level of the pint measure.

These were NOT oversized lined glasses (my local uses them most of the time). They were standard pint to the brim glasses, with no other marks to indicate a pint measure. Even allowing for 5% head, it was still short. The barman refused to top them up further.

The British Beer & Pub Association guidelines state that pubs should provide top-ups to any customer unsatisfied with the measure they receive. This was certainly ignored in this instance.

I was left feeling pretty disappointed with a pub which seems to pride itself on its knowledge and love of beer, but which on this occasion had got it so wrong.

Food For Thought
Feb 2018 • Friends
We visited this little gold nugget yesterday and I have to say the staff are very friendly and the beer and wine selection very good. We ordered food which was delicious but it was served in extremely small containers with plastic knives and forks. Whilst I appreciate costs have to be kept low this made eating the food difficult and messy. The burger barely fitted inside it container. Food spilled on to the table and whilst each table was cleaned after customers left, it was just not enough for me. The tables have grooves in them and we could clearly see the remnants of food from previous diners in the grooves of the table. This is my only gripe, larger containers for the food would be fabulous Otherwise we had a fabulous couple of hours there. We were a table of four and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Recommend.

Fantastic pub in hamstead heath
Aug 2017 • Friends
Stopped by this Pub after having a good walk on a sunny weekend in Hampstead Heath.
Great selection of tap beers, ales and stout , atleast 10+.
Wide variety of food - steak / meats / vegetarian.
Good relaxed ambience , ideal way to knock back a Sunday with a few good friends / partner.
Will visit again if in Hampstead Heath.
