Rugby Potjie and Hangi
Oct 2016
The Mrs and I got tickets for the South Africa vs New Zealand Rugby match at GJ's, which included a meal ( potjie and/or hangi), but the hangi was cancelled(after we bought tickets expecting to have this)There was a serious lack of organisation with this event. I was sent an email saying there was no need for a ticket, upon arrival ask for Tommy, who will issue a wristband or stamp. So upon arrival I ask the waiter/barman if I could see Tommy, and explained the reason, he said he would get him for me, I ordered a round of drinks ( good pint of guinness), found a table and waited. It was clear that there was no reason to book in advance as the bar was open to all, and the meal could be ordered regardless of a ticket or not, would of been nice to have a choice from the menu. The website said food would be served at 7. Still no Tommy. Went to order another round of drinks and a plate of nachos( think I was over charged, ordered drinks first, he rang it up, then ordered nachos, and £7 was added, did a double take on the menu which confirmed it was £6 (note for management in case I'm mistaken....pint of fosters, small house red £9.10 add nachos £16.10) not given a receipt, when I asked for one, I was asked, in a cocky way, do you want one? Well yes, that's why I'm asking! , asked the same server if I could have a chat with Tommy, and was told to ask the lady behind the bar, a pleasure not to be dealing with this fella and longer. The lady was lovely, had a look on the list, saw our names and presented us with lovely day glow pink wristbands. She then told us that the meal will be served at 6? Seriously guys, you said 7,where is the organisation? What did I just order nachos for? The nachos were not good, too much cheese, I know it might sound like a nice problem to have, but not when you can't get to the tortillas. The male toilet was filthy, floor not mopped once in the time we were there even though it desperately needed it. Might as well just remove the urinals and we can use the floor. Thats what it seemed like the blokes were doing. My wife told me there was no lock on the female toilet door. Now for the saving grace of this first and last visit. The potjie! I had the oxtail, the Mrs had the chicken. Both were Superb!! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It was a mild night, so we sat outside (this was a lovely area). For this I leave a 2 star review. If it wasn't for that, it would of been a 1.

Worst Pub in London
Aug 2016 • Friends
As the title suggests... only go here as the rest of the sports teams end up here for a quick beer. Bar staff always more interested in their phones (apart from new guy who actually runs the bar well, the rest don't care) most staff every have no idea. Beer on tap have had to send back a few times as can taste of detergent. Food looks rough. It's a pub and yet has a band playing some nights so
you can't hear the people your with. Far better places to go.

An great SA Bar
Apr 2016 • Friends
I know there's been some heat lately but it really a nice place. They have awesome hog roast. Lovely outdoor area and super family friendly. Prices are very reasonable. I've not had a problem with GJs. They host brilliant SA events. I would encourage everyone to give it a go. And should you have any queries just speak to management. I'm sure they will sort you out in a friendly manner.

Nice beer, don't eat though
Apr 2016 • Friends
Had a nice pint and we decided to order some food. The mains came and we found something extra in the food 'little flies' everywhere. We sent the food back and got a full refund for the food. I hope this review will enable the owners to make some changes to the kitchen/chef as it could be a nice pub.

Disappointing SA bar
Mar 2016 • Friends
There was no food dye to a gas leak, no alternative offered. Big sign advertising Prosecco so all was forgiven until we were told there was no Prosecco. Will not be returning.

Hi Lynne, apologies for your experience. We have sent you a note on Facebook messenger as we had received your complaint in a Facebook group also. We also received your friend Cheryll's complaint about the same issue. We also offered Cheryll compensation. Please feel free to contact us directly at any time for us to deal with any issues on the spot. The bar's phone is directed to us so we can deal with these issues 24/7. You are right we should have done more on the day. Should have started a Braai. Sincere apologies again. The Owners, GJ's

Great SA bar!
Oct 2015 • Friends
We decided to watch the SA vs Scotland rugby match at GJs and what a great time we had! The atmosphere was brilliant. Full of fellow South Africans in good spirits. The bar is brilliant for watching the rugby. There are more than enough tv screens inside and out in the beer garden which is partially covered. The braai/ barbecue was good too. It's a place where you can relax all day and night whilst socialising with friends. I believe they have live music on some days as well as other things going on. It's not overly rowdy and it's unpretentious. Wish we could go back to watch the next SA game but unfortunately we live up north. You can also book a table which is great!

Cozy place
May 2015 • Family
We're staying in a hotel close by and were just looking for place to watch the football match when we found this place. We were just starting with few pints when we found out there's a beer garden at the back with cozy sofas and barbecue, we ended up there much longer than firstly expected and had a food as well which was great and straight from the barbecue. Free jagerbombs given to each guest at some stage, very nice gesture from owners
