The area

Neighborhood: Greenwich
Greenwich Mean Time starts here, so to speak, as the very concept of global time was established at Royal Observatory, just one of several buildings of architectural interest in Greenwich. Indeed, the whole of Greenwich's historic town center, its Royal Park and a number of related buildings (and one world famous ship, the Cutty Sark) make up the UNESCO World Heritage site known as Maritime Greenwich. Today a laser beam is shot out across the night sky from the Observatory to mark the location of the Prime Meridian. Other bold (some say brash) 21st century additions to the area include landmarks such as The O2 entertainment complex (previously known as the Millennium Dome) and the Air Line cable cars, which offer scenic transport across the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks.

We visited The Vanbrugh somewhat by accident. It just happened to be on the BT Sport list of pubs. What a brilliant find, although it is a little bit of a walk from Greenwich town center, it is well worth the effort. We received a lovey, friendly welcome as soon as we walked through the door and this carried on throughout our visit. We had contact with 4 staff members and each one was eager to help and all had ready smiles. Although the pub mainly showed football, the landlady was more than happy to allow us to have the Premiership Rugby on one of the TVs, with the sound on too!! The beer selection was excellent and with plenty of choice of differing real ales this made for a great afternoon. Whilst we didn’t have food, we did see many meals being served around us, they all looked excellent.
Although we don’t live in the area, when we return to Greenwich we will certainly be paying The Vanbrugh another visit.
Many thanks to Jo and all her excellent staff.

Really nice pub / restaurant - great decor, nice lively vibrant atmosphere, great staff and lovely clientele. Always a great place to go if you need a nice bit of food and relaxing drink and a great garden as well, it’s like a little secret escape! If your heading to Greenwich head here definitely.
