- Dark muncherUnited Kingdom21 contributionsReservation and food issues.I opened the Youngs app to book a table at the Rose and Crown,Wimbledon Village and saw nothing available after 16.15 hrs on a Thursday . I rang direct and was able to book a table for 2 at 1800 hrs,the time I'd wanted ,with no difficulty. Arriving on time, I expected it to be full and was suprised to note the courtyard half empty and the indoor dining room empty, bar one table. Why did the app not show this? We've eaten here many times before as well as being a customer for decades and usually the food served is adequate, seldom varying and uninspiring. We had burgers and a pie,my burger was overcooked, meat grey, tough and with gristle in it. I asked for it to be returned and was offered a replacement,I declined, the moment had passed. I have noticed over the years the food choice has remained more or less the same, where some other Youngs pubs have been innovative and changed menus. It is a shame as the patio area is a nice spot to eat, away from traffic fumes, unlike the outdoor eating area of The Dig and Fox. Maybe the fact that it now also an hotel, generating even more work for the manager and the food suffers. I've seldom had to return dishes in the past and onxe the chef refused to swap chips for mash etc,a simple enough request. I hope things take a turn for the better in the future as the country slowly unlocks. The serving staff are all delightful and finding their feet.Visited June 2021Traveled with friendsWritten June 11, 2021
- Victoria MWorld1 contributionFriendly, welcoming & relaxing. We have visited the Rose and Crown both as a hotel guest and more recently as a pub guest and have always received the warmest of welcomes from everyone who works there. One of the few places in Wimbledon Village with a large open outside space enabling you to take advantage of the new relaxation of lockdown rules - the team have obviously worked very hard at preparing the area & making everyone feel safe. Wonderful to see people out & about enjoying themselves safely & big thanks and credit to all of the staff for helping this happen.Visited April 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten April 25, 2021
- Tammy22Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom47 contributionsFriday steak lunch - such a treat! We have always enjoyed our meals here and today was no exception. Delicious steak cooked to our taste, a lovely bottle of red wine, and to follow sticky toffee pudding, and apple and rhubarb crumble. Traditional pub grub is always welcome on the menu. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Covid safety measures are in place. We are very glad the Rose and Crown is open again for more visits!Visited June 2021Written June 4, 2021

- LyndalooEsher, United Kingdom1,320 contributionsLate lunch - early supperStopped here for a late lunch with my husband and father. Service and atmosphere I would give a 5 dot rating but the food was just ‘ok’. I’ve eaten in other Young’s restaurants before, one locally to me and sometimes that can be hit and miss so maybe we got them on an off day. My husband had the sausage and mash and said the sausages were just ‘ok’. I had fish and langoustine pie, there was a solid langoustine on top, I didn’t eat it and none inside and not a lot of fish either. We had crumble for pudding and there was literally a sprinkling of crumble, it was more just stewed fruit.Visited July 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten July 28, 2019
- Q816NHleejLondon, United Kingdom81 contributionssaturday lunchSaturday lunch, We decided to pop into the Rose & Crown Wimbledon hill for some lunch, We walked in through the bar out to the dining area, we were greeted with a friendly smile and was told a table was just being cleared away for us to use. Shortly we were sitting and given menus. within a couple of minutes our waitress arrived and asked if we would like any drinks, which we ordered, reasonably priced for glasses of wine, we were also offered tap water. The drinks arrived, and we were asked what we would like to eat. we ordered our food and when it arrived it all looked lovely, my wife had chicken and leak pie and I had fish and chips. The food was delicious and was more than enough for lunch. However, we did push ourselves to have a dessert and shared an apple and winter fruit crumble with custard. This was more than enough for two to share and was excellent. The Rose & Crown has a very friendly and comfortable feel even though it is part of a pub and hotel it all gels together. There is also an outside area to eat and drink, but we preferred the warmth of the dining room. Great value for money, friendly atmosphere and staff. Great lunchVisited March 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten March 8, 2019
- Steve CLondon, United Kingdom15 contributionsChildren not welcomeJust came here and was told by a member of staff that kids are only allowed in the restaurant and not in the bar area of the pub, apparently due to licensing laws. Ours is 6 months old and asleep in a pram. This policy must have changed in the last 24hrs as yesterday we were welcome as we were the week before. The website clearly states children welcome before 8pm. Very disappointing. Staff should be better informed. Shame as this is generally a good local pub.Visited December 2018Traveled with familyWritten December 28, 2018

Staff is very friendly and welcoming, eager to make things as simple as possible for you. We had lunch which had a good selection and was reasonably priced. Breakfast was included. Good selection of egg dishes included but not much for my diet of fresh fruit and sugar free cereal. Coffee was excellent, even decaf.Visited November 2018Traveled as a coupleWritten November 17, 2018

It was real surprise to hear the clip clop of horses on both Sat and Sunday morning heading to the common .Right out there in the street with the traffic. I used to drink here for over 15 years from 1985. The pub later extended to a hotel. Went there today. Terrible pint which took over 15 minutes to order. No pub atmosphere whatsoever and extremely overpriced.

I have been a customer for over 50 years and hace always rated 'The Rose' highly.
I've always had a good meal here and on average probably eat and drink here weekly.
Last week I met up with a friend of many years standing whose also a local businessman and regular.
We had a nice table inside as the garden was packed and noisy.
Having checked the menu I noticed plaice offered on the specials menu. It came with salad, mushrooms and oddly cauliflower but not chips.
I asked our lovely waitress if I could have chips instead of cauliflower and she went to ask the chef.
Hard to believe his reply. Yes but if so, then I wouldn't get salad or mushrooms!!?
What? Why on earth not? She was apologetic but that was what she's been told. Was a handful of chips worth more than cauliflower, salad and mushrooms?
Couldn't he be bothered?
Don't know but put the mockers on our staying there to eat so we left and ate elsewhere as there's plenty of choice locally, something he should remember.
Shabby treatment for 2 lifelong customers. How difficult was it to simply omit cauliflower and add a handful of chips. Obviously very.
