Great cosy, chilled wine bar with an intimate vibe. We had the wine tasting experience booked for my boyfriend's birthday and our sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and approachable and made the whole experience super positive and enjoyable. We had a great time and would definitely recommend.

I'm not the king of person to leave a bad review - I'm very easily pleased most of the time! However I really want the staff at Sager and Wilde to read this and hopefully take the comments on board:
My boyfriend and I had 20 mins to spare before a meal out so we popped into S&G on the way. It wasn't overly busy and there were 4 members of staff who didn't look rushed off their feet, however no one even greeted us as we sat by the bar and we pretty much had to beg for a menu... It seemed as though only one staff member was serving customers and everyone else was polishing already polished wine glasses... It then took ages for us to order - all we wanted was 2 glasses of wine! It was extremely frustrating trying to get someone's attention so we could order, but no one even made eye contact with us.
All in all we were in there for 25 mins but 20 mins of that was waiting for our wine to arrive...
I don't recommend this place if you're in a rush!
Really hope the staff start paying more attention to their customers. This place has potential but unfortunately it does play up to the pretentious stereotypes.

Stumbled into this place on my way back from Columbia Road flower market on an absolutely roasting day.
I wanted a refreshing G&T (but, duh!, it's a proper wine bar and serves, er, wiiiine), so the lovely, lovely, lovely bar staff recommended I try the white port and tonic, which they served with a slice of orange, and I suspect I'll be drinking this forever.
It's a cool little lowkey spot. I like the chill vibe and I'll be back. There are outdoor seats, but they all stare straight on to the road, so it's not the most visually stimulating, but hello... hot day + great drinks + great service + table outside = Very Good Times.
And for wine enthusiasts, there are a lot of choices. I'd also recommend this place as a starting point before a date.

I’m not sure whether it was the time of the day (Saturday mid afternoon), whether our faces didn’t fit (8 50-something ladies, not what you’d call ‘hipsters’) or if the staff were having a bad day. Whatever the reason, my friends and I found this place to be less than welcoming. Only a few people in but it was a massive effort for us to be allowed to sit down.
Very average drinks at inflated prices - which we wouldn’t have minded so much had we been in any way encouraged to buy them.

My husband and I are locals here and wanted to try this place out, indeed it does look quite cool from outside. We waited for about 20min, watching staff texting, chatting to each other and actually tasting the wine themselves behind the bar. Having been on the verge of walking out, we finally got served, although the waitress couldn't be any less sincere. We paid 10pounds each for a glass of bordeux. When it was brought out I serious thought it was just to taste the portion was so small. The measures are the smallest I have ever come across. I'm only glad they didn't add the tip automatically, which would have made me very upset, although when I didn't leave the tip the waitress looked like she just ate a lemon!
If you like fine wine with stingy portions and a side of pretentiousness this is your place.

It pains me to say this as I always liked the place. But at an event linked to the RAW wine fair, they really took the piss with some outrageous mark-ups on the two winemakers' listed wines. My friends and I were familiar with the wines, perhaps other customers are more tolerant. But £13.50 for a 125ml glass of the otherwise excellent Domaine Majas blanc is beyond shameful. Make sure you check your bills before handing the cash or credit card over. I won't be back, as we say in Paris, "faut pas prendre les gens pour des cons"..

This was my second visit. The first was unremarkable - pricey with slow service but I felt it had potential. Last night I was waiting for someone to join me for a quick glass of wine before moving on to eat. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and a Prosecco ... without first viewing the wine list. The bartender pushed the list across the bar saying ' You will have to try harder than that' ( neither SB or Prosecco were listed). He then told me what I should be drinking, as his choices were apparently far superior. I'm sure he is an excellent sommelier but he managed to make me feel very small. I won't recount all of my experience - but it did get worse. I would have left if I could have waited elsewhere.

CoolPlace! Great wine list, but too pricy ! Unfortunately it is the only decent wine place in east London . I stopped going as it is too pricy and the place in terms of design etc is not so cool in Hackney

Cool atmosphere and really interesting cocktails. Food was quite unique and very fresh and tasty. Fell short of 5 stars as the mains took a while to arrive and it was noisy whenever a train went past. Good experience overall though.

A few Friday nights ago me and the girls were feeling the need for a decent catch up and well of course a good bottle of wine (and change of scene for the usual pint & pub). Having wandered past this little gem only a few days before, I was eager to checkout Sager & Wilde as soon as possible.
Situated on the quieter end of Hackney Road this standalone wine bar is ticking all the boxes; old Beefeater gin bottles used for water, low lighting, an expansive wine list and blasting the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction; you have all the makings for an energetic girls night out. We settled in to the prime position at the bar, surrounded by all the cool kids (excluding myself of course) and wasted no time in ordering a bottle of their finest. Our new friend Sam, a strapping young lad from Scotland was re-filling our glasses faster than we could drink (no complaints here) and we ordered a serve of olives and smoked almonds – perfect!
The menu is simple and given the size of this tiny wine bar it’s no surprise they have taken advantage of using part of it as a small food prep area; you have the choice of the above mentioned olives and almonds, as well as a selection of small plates such as freekeh salad with burnt aubergine and sour cream (insert drool here!), and an all-time crowd pleaser; cheese toasties, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed and neither will your date! I should mention also that the place is in fact dog-friendly even at 9pm, and no I was not too proud to strike up a conversation with a two-year old Dachshund named Chestnut - I’ll take what I can get these days!
We ended our visit after 3 bottles of wine and decided to head home by which time the place was pumping and the waiter was diving in and out of the maze of folk, with food and wine bottles a plenty. I recommend getting here a little earlier to avoid missing a seat, but they will take bookings for the bar for 1-6 people (can it get any better!?). They do private hire and wine tastings – great idea for a party or simply to garner some wineducation! So, get down there and check it out with that special someone (or pooch!)
