Great wine, excellent service!

Great cosy, chilled wine bar with an intimate vibe. We had the wine tasting experience booked for my boyfriend's birthday and our sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and approachable and made the whole experience super positive and enjoyable. We had a great time and would definitely recommend.

The place is nice but easily packed and the prices are way too high for what it is! Won't go again..!

Always a new disappointment
May 2019 • Friends
I went to Sager + Wilde many times, being in the wine and food industry, I always try to convince myself that I have to go back and see if next time I will spend a good time...
Well, no! I always had a bad surprises or a bad welcoming.
People are rude and prices are high.
Last time I had a bottle of wine, I asked for the bill, I am inviting my friend without checking the bill.I want to trust people in the industry so I didn't check the bill... The days after I realised that there was an extra glass on the bill that we never ordered!
My fault I should have check the bill, but every time I go there something like this happens.
I have a sour taste of this place. It's shame because everything is there: good wine, lovely place, really good influencers on instagram. But the real life is different.
I will go back, believing that one day I will spend a good time.

Overpriced

CoolPlace! Great wine list, but too pricy ! Unfortunately it is the only decent wine place in east London . I stopped going as it is too pricy and the place in terms of design etc is not so cool in Hackney

White port and tonic is now my summer drink!
May 2019 • Friends
Stumbled into this place on my way back from Columbia Road flower market on an absolutely roasting day.

I wanted a refreshing G&T (but, duh!, it's a proper wine bar and serves, er, wiiiine), so the lovely, lovely, lovely bar staff recommended I try the white port and tonic, which they served with a slice of orange, and I suspect I'll be drinking this forever.

It's a cool little lowkey spot. I like the chill vibe and I'll be back. There are outdoor seats, but they all stare straight on to the road, so it's not the most visually stimulating, but hello... hot day + great drinks + great service + table outside = Very Good Times.

And for wine enthusiasts, there are a lot of choices. I'd also recommend this place as a starting point before a date.

Lovely bites and bread. Great spot for an intimate catch-up

I really enjoyed this little spot. Waiting for a concert to start, we popped in and had a delicious little meal of casual charcuterie, cheese, and preserves.

The atmosphere is a bit smokey and alive with chatter. Good spot to be.

Unpretentious, rustic, quirky bar!
Apr 2019 • Friends
I came here last night with my mum and sister and was greeted by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table. My sister and I opted for a recommended red wine whilst my mum had a white. I enjoyed the wine very much!

For the food, we ordered bruschetta, which was generously topped with baby tomatoes, basil and some oil; toasted bread and olive tapenade, almond/nut selection and a three cheese board with more bread and butter! The food was scrumptious, really tasty cheese selection (goats, cheddar and another strong cheese, maybe blue) and the tapenade was also very well done.

Lovely ambiance, it was quite quiet when we arrived as it was quiet early, but then it started to get a little busier as the evening progressed. It was a really nice and almost calm atmosphere, and an overall lovely evening. We had 2 glasses of wine each, of which we enjoyed, and felt very satisfied with the food.

Will definitely be back!

Perfect wine bar
Nov 2018 • Couples
Favorite wine bar in London (in addition to their restaurant). The wine selection is always interesting and new. The owners put a lot of hard work into curating a great list. The small bites are perfect for date night. My bf and I love coming here.

Grown up wine bar now run by children
Dec 2018 • Couples
Having previously enjoyed visiting Sager and Wilde with its excellent front of house and bar staff that made you feel that you were in safe, enthusiastic and welcoming hands from the moment you walked in the door, I am sad to report that this is no longer the case. What previously made this place stand out has gone. The staff now provide average service at best and are more interested in talking to friends/each other than serving customers.

Bar staff when asked for a wine recommendation suggested the most expensive glass on the list (up-selling or ignorant: you decide). More time was spent on the ‘drama’ of pouring the wine to impress co-workers than the basics of keeping the bar clear, asking people what else they might want to drink, and remembering what people had ordered.

We were joined by a manager for 30 minutes or so who sat on a stool next to us at the bar ‘working' which involved scrolling through wholesale wine lists on his laptop and occasionally 'fist pumping' or exclaiming 'yessssss' and WhatsApp'ing wine relate memes to his friends. I am sure this display was meant to leave me in awe of his oenophile passion and dedication (it didn't) and couldn't help but think he was occupying a potentially paying spot when he could have simply sat in the service area. If I had wanted to watch someone 'work' I could have just stayed at the office.

The bar snacks are still good and the wine choice broad and interesting but, given what else London has to offer, Sager and Wilde is not worth travelling for. Overall, a grown-up wine bar now run by children.
