Wasn't expecting much but this was quite a boring show for the first half. The second has all the big performances but there was just too many boring performances and too many giant rats

Disappointing & Underwhelming
Dec 2019
I was excited about seeing the Nutcracker at the ENO (Dec 2019). I have always enjoyed ballet productions here as they have been of a very high quality. I was very disappointed with this production because the dancing was of a good standard but badly let down by the unimaginative scenery and costumes. This ballet left me feeling flat rather than the usual light hearted and uplifted.

The nutcracker - not up to scratch
Dec 2019 • Solo
I have been most disappointed by the performace. Too much dancing, scenery did not change enough and the storyline was not clear. I am happy I chose a cheaper ticket this time. You cannot compare it to Royal Opera House performances. I wanted to leave in the middle

So-so, alas!
Dec 2019
Having seen many previous performances of the Nutcracker over the years at the Coliseum, sad to say, last night's performance by the English National Ballet was the most average. Dancers out of step at times, too much of the mice and not enough of the Ballerinas who seemed to be centre-stage for no more than 10 minutes (this was intended course, but not very Christmassy). The stage scenery was not up to scratch; the on-stage Christmas tree was worthy of ALDI! Worth the evening, but pleased we chose a cheaper option in the Upper Circle. I pity anyone who paid for a box!

Lack Luster Set
Dec 2019 • Friends
Sadly this performance did not live up to the Christmas sparkle of The Nutcracker. The set design was very lack luster and although the dancers were very good the storyline was not as good as previous shows. Costumes were quite dull too. Shame as we were really looking forward to this performance.

Fairly average Nutcracker with a very long second act
Dec 2019 • Family
The first half is good enough but the second half goes on and on without the magical sets to keep the kids (or me!) entertained. The dancing was out of step in a fairly obvious way at many points. There were some very good dancers who shone (the Arabian dancer was amazing) but the large numbers weren’t done well. It all felt a bit stilted and a bit amateur hour. They really should do better.

So disappointing
Dec 2019
We have seen many versions of the Nutcracker ballet over the years and this was the most disappointing one we have ever seen :( The stage sets were dull and poorly designed, for example, the 'land of the sugar plum fairy' was dark grey/green/brown colours! The sugar plum fairy hardly featured, dancing just once and not in evidence afterwards, her costume being very ordinary. The group dances seemed muddled and often out of step with each other. We left feeling none of the usual wonderful 'christmassy' feelings the Nutcracker usually summons up.

Disappointing...
Dec 2019
Had really looked forward to this as a pre-Christmas treat but was massively underwhelmed. Thought the production was, for the most part, a little dreary. Where was the sparkle? Where were the fabulous costumes? Where was the spectacle and Christmas magic? The second half has no scenery at all - just a dull curtain backdrop. The principles were excellent, but the ensemble were def not that impressive, seemed tired, often out of step and lacking that sharp synchronicity that we were expecting from a professional production.

The Nutcracker
Dec 2019
I have written a separate review for the London Colesium. The performance of the Nutcracker was amazing, magical and moving. My wife had wanted to see this since she was little so this was a dream come true for her and I had never been to a ballet before and I was pleasantly surprised. The story telling and dancing was sensational and kept you captured in the moment. The dancers were all amazing and will definitely be booking another show with the English National Ballet. Well done!
