About
Village has become a firm fixture on Soho's gay scene since opening in 1991.It does offer something for everyone 'all under one roof'. Ground floor dance floor is where all the snap crackling pop, chart and commercial dance action happens with DJ's Lady Lloyd, Aamyko, Raven Mandella, Raul Villaetc + our gorgeous gogo boys on the bar! Descend into the basement club, where you'll find the best in chunky funky deep house & tech with the cream of London's dance scene DJ's Brent Nicholls, Zach Bach, Massimo Paramour, Yvette Lindquist etc. Through to the 'Cafe bar' you'll find a more relaxed vibe with lots of seating & comfy booths. Further more, head upstairs to the new 'Cocktail Lounge' where you'll find another bar with luxurious booths, chandeliers and a stunning view of all the action right up Old Compton Street. We are now open from 4pm everyday and you are also very welcome to take your drinks al fresco onto Brewer Street where you can drink in the afternoon sun :) Pop in & say hi!

The area

Neighborhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

Agressively singled out by a member of the door staff
Nov 2021
I should start by saying that I hadn't been out in London for a couple of years after the passing of my partner & my mum both within eight days of each other. So although I was nevous about putting myself out there again this was meant to be a happy experience for me. I remembered The Village Soho from before so thats where I decided to go. The barstaff were very friendly as was the gentleman who I had a lovely conversation with about his dog & my rescue cat. Unfortunately i'm afraid to say that my night took a dramatic turn for the worse later on. I was left injured, bruised & traumatised when I was (what can only be described as) assulted by a member of the door staff for no apparent reason other than he had taken a dislike to me. Whilst in the roped off smoking area outside he decided to tell me that ''I looked intoxicated'' which I know I was most certainly not. The whole conversation & the way he was talking to me felt strange & somewhat personal so I removed myself from the situation & went inside. A while later that same person came into the venue obviously looking for me & demanded there & then that I leave. I asked why he simply replied ''because I want you too''. I then asked to speak to the venue manager at which point he physically aggressively manhandled me & practically throw me into the street having used an excessive amount of force (i'm a 5'-7'' 51 year old man). The whole experience left me very traumatised & upset, not least because it was the first time I had felt confident enough to go out socially after being diagnosed with Bells Palsy in 2019 which in my case has not & will not completely go away therefore my mouth has a slight droop on one side which I am extremely self conscious about. I was visibly upset by what had happened & people were doing their best to console me including by this point the other doorman from the main entrance who was lovely & when asked, confirmed to me that I certainly did not seem intoxicated or drunk. I intend to try & speak to the general manager of The Village to get to the bottom of what happen & at the very least an apology however I can't help but feel that my complaint will not be taken seriously. The Village Soho was the first ever gay venue that I went to many years ago & I have so many fond memories of it which makes what happened all the sadder. London can be a scary place at times especially when you are not local but the least you should be able to expect is to be treated with respect & to feel safe at least whilst inside a gay bar or club in London & not made to feel bullied or vulnerable. It remains to be seen what response I recieve on Monday when I attempt to speak to the general manager at which point I will update this review. Maybe it was simply that I was middle aged & I didn't fit the venues age demographic but that doesn't ring true to me. However after my experience I would advise anyone out alone or who has a slight disability that makes you look slightly different to be very weary of this venue.

Racist door policy
Oct 2021 • Friends
The doorman refused entry to my group of friends (gay group, majority women and poc) because we ‘didn’t have a booking’. I’ve been to this venue several times before and this is a line they use on people they don’t want to enter. During this conversation at the door, he let in several white people who didn’t have any booking.

I then had a conversation with the manager who was unapologetic, justifying their door policy by saying ‘well it’s a male heavy venue’ and ‘there aren’t many people of colour here so maybe they wouldn’t enjoy it.’ (talking about our group) He denied saying this when I brought it up later, but I heard it with my own ears.

I have read and heard of other racist incidents at this venue, and it’s incredibly sad. Either change your door policy or shut down.

The Village is a racist venue, please do not support it by going there.

The visit that didn’t really happen!
Aug 2021 • Couples
Well we booked for drinks at 4pm on Saturday, the place finally opened at 4:15pm, a coupe of not so friendly bouncers ushered us in and told us to sit down which we did.

There were no staff at the bar, we waited 5 mins, now 4:20pm (bare in mind we were on a tight schedule) and still no one at the bar, no one letting us know what was going on, so we left without having a drink.

2/5 for everything barring the drinks which we didn’t get to try.

A great place
Jul 2021 • Couples
This is a really friendly bar and as a couple of older lesbians we felt really comfortable and welcomed. It's not too expensive for central London, the clientele are mixed and the vibe is laid back, with great bar staff.
