Terrible customer service

My daughter in law bought a present for my nephew. The box had a big hole and all bashed in it when It arrived and the only packaging around the gift was a plastic covering. She sent a photo to HMV and they said they would not send another one out. It is a disgusting attitude. We could have have got it from another site but we bought it from HMV thinking we would safe. Never again we as a family and our friends will shop in HMV again.

Always go into HMV at least twice a month! Love it always a great range of cd, vinyls and DVD’s. If i ever want a cd or record i always look in HMV to support the shop as there are hardly any record shops left and 98% of the time they have them. The staff are also very helpful and could not do a enough for you. Great shop 10/10! Worth a visit

Not a great selection of music
Dec 2019
I visited a few weeks ago on my big birthday blow out to London, and as I am a great music fan I decided to venture into the HMV store. I had received quite a lot of very great birthday money, and so I thought hey, why not, it is my birthday, time for a sweet treat. As I entered my eyes scanned the store for the CD section, and I was immediately drawn towards it because I only collect CDs. I do not understand why vinyl is epic again. I never liked it, and so I was excited because HMV still had a lot of CDs on offer for me to look at and maybe buy if I liked them enough or had heard of them on my favourite websites. They are all listed alphabetically, which is really good because it does help you find the bands you need if you know the name, or even if you only know the first letter of it. As I flicked through I felt disappointed that nothing had jumped out to me but also still hopeful that I would find something. Afterall, I was only at C and still had the rest of the alphabet to go through and also the section that has bands that begin with numbers and/or symbol.

I really wanted to see all that HMV Oxford Street had on offer so I flicked through every single CD in the racks. After an hour I had gotten to the end of the CD section and I was extremely forlorn. There was not one single CD from any of the bands I like, or the symphony orchestras I subscribe to. Not one! There was no Cucklords Of Arp or Bucket Sinus material, not even a single Rectoid Symphonia master collection 3 disc special edition. Words can't express how frustrated I was, I had a long car drive home from the train station and I only had a few Sugerbabes CDs in my car from my ex-girlfriend and I did not want to listen to them and only wanted to listen to some real music from real and true passionate musicians and bands, unlike the sugarbabe.

HMV, I suggest you listen to the REAL music fans out here! I think you should stock a more varied and wider selection of CDs in your CD departments, because I could not find any of the great bands that I like. Also, I don't think you should do vinyls any more, as they have not been cool since the 1980 and are so big and stupid looking, CD is much better and more compact and is great for long car journeys. Can't see you taking a vinyl into a car huh!!

Change this. This spot does not exists any longer
Sep 2019
As said, you must update this. This address was close down. The only one open now is located at Westfield mall, White City. It's a His Master's Voice but not the essence, I visited the Oxford Street by the very first time in 1985, and both spots, the former one and the other opened years after in the opposite walk reaching Tottenham Court Rd. were part of my London peregrinations.

Now, besides the Westfield one, we have the Fopp store located in the Covent Garden area.

In spite of the pity, I found some stuff on both stores this time.

A record store. Selling only new stuff.
WOW, one out of none nowadays.
Well this is the closest you cme to a record store nowadays.
They have CD's, vinyls and a bunch of DVD's also.
A lot of other crap.

But you can fiond the newest Paul McCartney, and Coldplay and the oldest Elvis (actually not old, but just a reissue number 20323).
¤ stars for being a record store still
Less if you compare to old days.
But it is not old days anymore!

Not brilliantly organised for events but decent venue
Sep 2018 • Solo
I attended the 363 upstairs venue for the Billy F Gibbons Q&A + album signing. The Q&A was great, great sound & lighting.
Queuing outside wasn’t the best organised, with many rolling eyes in attendance as we were shepherded from one side of the rammed pavement to the other.
Post Q&A it was a messy free for all to join the queue for signing, meaning many managed to push ahead of me & extended my wait considerably. Was not happy.
The store itself is well organised over 3 levels, with a nice stock of vinyl, comics, books, t-shirts & the usual CDs etc.

Great Selection
Aug 2018 • Couples
We always manage to find something of interest in the DVD section at HMV shops - particularly comedy and TV series, which we just can't find in New Zealand. Also some music CDs.
The selection is good and if you are into vinyl, then that range continues to expand.

For lovers of music

There was a day a long time ago when vinyl (and even cassettes) ruled. HMV had a massive store. This location isn't the original one. They downsized when digital starting taking over. Their original location if you want to reminisce is down the street where Sports Direct currently resides. Virgin Megastore was the other hotspot for music in central London (also on Oxford Street) but it is sadly long gone. With vinyl under a bit of resurgence, it's worth stopping off at HMV as their vinyl section is growing quickly. I was last there at Christmas and the vinyl section has expanded massively since then.

Came here to get a few DVDs of The RAF and war films,
The choice is amazing and one can spend hours browsing the departments on all floors. You can find anything you want from any period of time in music and movies.
Great store.
