Snotty eggs, snottier waitress
Oct 2021 • Couples
Having had a lovely experience here on the Saturday we decided to book for breakfast the following morning. When we arrived there was another couple of tables, the ambience was relaxed and we were looking forward to a lovely breakfast. We ordered a full English, an eggs florentine, 2 coffees, an orange juice and a coke. The cold drinks arrived swiftly, followed by the breakfasts. By this point it was getting busier. I cut into my poached and the white were so runny they were inedible, i then spent 20 minutes trying to get the attention to one of the members of staff to ask for our coffees and a replacement. In the end we gave up as we had a train to catch. We approached the bar to complain, they immediately sent our coffees, then left it another 10 minutes to deal with my inedible breakfast. By this point I’m getting royally pissed off. The waitress comes to take it away and asks if I’d like another, no time I reply, take it off the bill. Oh I was just going to offer you discount she says. She brings us the amended bill and says sorry you arrived right in the middle of a busy period, well no we didn’t, also to her remark about us must being experienced hospitality people, the answer is 25 years actually, and if you ever want any training in customer service, which you quite clearly need, feel free to drop me a email, although I would suggest you’re in the wrong job entirely.

BEST ROAST .
Jun 2021 • Friends
The BEST roast I’ve had in a while (including pre-COVID). Wonderful friendly staff that were so assuring with regards to their COVID precautions. Everything was wiped down before we used it. Felt so safe and welcome. Was a pleasure and can’t wait to go back.

Game of two halves

Waiting staff 10/10
Experience 5/10
Covid-secure 1/10
Screeching boss 10/10
Had a great first-half experience here, wines in the sun and so on. Great vibe. Having passed the place for the last 6 months gathering cobwebs, as a key worker, i added it to my “visit” list once restrictions eased. I like to support places like this. They even had a lick of paint too. Everything was paid for at the time of order and evidenced (no key worker or neighbouring Point A Hotel discount offered btw - not that i was overly bothered). Service quick, guess as a result of their being surprisingly dead. Then the mood changed … maybe because it was embarrassingly deserted. “management” blatantly breaching Covid rules (photos available!) claimed a 3rd of 5 wines had not been paid for. Which was not what the bank showed. Payment had been taken. The over-reaction on their part was an embarrassment tbh. For me, and for them. I don’t normally post negative reviews on TripAdvisor, given the damage it can do, when most hospitality companies need all the support they can get. But this was a shocking experience. And i look forward to challenging their reply (A thousand pounds to charity that i know what they will say - which won’t be an apology).

The management here at The Water Rats and several of our customers that were sitting close to you outside trying to enjoy their evening are aware of your visit to our venue. The waitress who served you, we are informed by our patrons, was bullied and intimidated by your interactions with her after you were informed that possibly one of your payments had not gone through the payment process fully – you then became very aggressive, which was observed by several of our visitors who told us that the behaviour they witnessed by you towards the waitress and then to a person on the telephone was disgraceful. Staff and patrons clearly heard you shouting into the phone “I am going to get you closed down!”. You were witnessed to become very agitated causing alarm and concern to all those around you. We are never happy to hear of difficulties that our valued customers may face and you can rest assured that lessons have been learnt from this experience Lastly, we take the current Covid rules seriously and follow government guidance to help keep our customers and staff safe whilst in our venue.

Good food, good servicd
May 2021
There is no need to book a table to eat and drink here, which is good. The menu has vegetarian options and a good variety of sides. The service from the Hosts was good. The nachos needed slightly more cheese, but generally the food was good.

Will never return
Jan 2020 • Friends
I (23) visited with a younger friend for a concert. No where in the pubs terms and conditions nor on the tickets did it say I couldn’t accompany an underage into a concert, when neither had any intention of drinking.
The managers, and workers were rude and short with us losing their temper when the issue of underage was their own fault. The manager, clearly stressed or unhappy, was horrible and short and rather out of order talking to us like that, when we were paying customers. I was so shocked at her manner of speech towards me that my younger friend handled the confrontation and situation.
After huffing and puffing and talking to us like we were dirt we were allowed into the concert.
I understand why there was a problem, even though it was their fault there was this mis-understanding, but the approach, professionalism and manner of which they handled the situation was out of order and disgraceful. I wouldn’t recommend going to a concert here. Ruined our once in a lifetime opportunity.
We made sure not to buy any of their (non alcoholic) drinks that night, and I certainly will never return.
Disappointed.

Nice little pub
Mar 2020 • Solo
Had a quick cider here after a fair few beers somewhere else. Found it to be a nice little pub with s chill atmosphere. Press next top point a hotel. So good to go there for a drink before going to bed.

Recommended to check this out when in London.

Bad experience with manager
Feb 2020 • Friends
I was going to a concert that I have been waiting for for about 2 years now. I was approached rudely on my entry asking for my age, 16, and she was bitter in her response. Later I heard her unprofessionally moaning at one of the band members about the age limit in her bar and how she was unhappy with it, and the noise (what was she expecting at a concert¿). She didn’t make this clear when she booked the gig. I was then asked to step aside on my entrance to the back room was questioned again. She then took time to remind me I was too young for her bar, to which I replied ‘there was no age limit on the website when I bought my tickets’. She wasn’t too happy with my response, where I highlighted her mistake and snapped at me and reminded me that she was the manager and so it was her decision to what was going happen. This seemed like a threat to not let us enter- even though we had paid full price with terms and conditions. Her approach was unsettling and unprofessional to what would have been a really enjoyable evening had it not been for her.
I believe this was a poorly handled a situation that was not my fault. It was her own fault for booking a concert- it was nothing to do with me that she didn’t want a responsible- full paying customer for that matter- 16 year old at a concert she booked in her own bar without setting an age limit. I had a responsible adult with me and there was no need for her to be rude. She booked this band knowing he age group it was aimed at and should have thought about this in advanced rather than blaming me. She had a snappy approach and she had back chatting issues- she spoke to me in a rude tone and I don’t stand for that.
Awful experience with the manager and this ruined my whole experience.

We do not allow 16 year olds into the Concert area unless the booking is a totally under 18's event which we should be informed of fully, in advance, as we run the room very differently - it is clear that we were not informed that there would be under 18s present and it looks like our vetting process was put into practice Thank you for coming here and making it clear to those that read your review that we do take under age attendance very seriously and discourage it - however all are welcome in the main room for eating, drinking, coffee, teas, bar drinks and socialising with friends, we encourage families to come along and spend time with us We are concerned about noise/sound for any youngster, hearing is a precious thing and we want to make people aware that a concert is indeed loud The promoter of the event we feel is the person you should direct your anger at regarding tickets and terms and conditions - we enforce our policies and clearly you were not informed of the age that was required to enter without being challenged

Really tight at the Rats
Feb 2020
Went to a gig here to see U2 2 who were brilliant. The pub is great and we got served ok and then went into the back room to see the gig. It is very tight in there and we were constantly jostled by people going to and from the bar.
It was good fun though and I would def go back and see another band there.

We pride ourselves on being a small intimate venue which allows fans, followers and audience members to get really up close to their artists and entertainers - it sounds like it was a very popular event and unfortunately we cannot predict who will move about to the bars back and forth, we try to leave some space for movement but it is not always possible, however once the show starts people normally settle down into their spot and really get involved with the shows There is a big variety of shows that are performed here, please look us up on Facebook or our website to see if there are other bands you would like to follow, you know you will really get to know them here and be close enough to see them easily
