If you're serious about dance music - be it techno, house, drum and bass, then this is a great club to go to. It's a bit of a London institution. While others clubs come and go and have renamed about a dozen times, Turnmills have been around since before I started clubbing - which for the record was back in 1997 which is when I first went there. Turnmills is a huge club is a cool area. There's tons of great bars nearby to start your night off before coming to the club. Don't bother arriving before midnight (unless its a superstar DJ) because it gets going late. There's about 3 proper rooms, then a huge bar upstairs, as well as other side bars dotted around. The club is a bit of a labyrinth, you'll find yourself up and down and around corners, but I've never been lost in there. Make sure you check the music policy before - their website is alway uptodate - but Turnmills secures some legendary DJs. If you're looking for some commercial "europop" dance tracks like DJ Otzi or Fatboy Slim, then I suggest sticking to the West End.

Turnmills has been a clubbing institution since the mid 90's when the legendary 'Trade' after hours club opened for business. The bald and beautiful of London's gay scene would bop away to cutting edge tracks from the early hours to Sunday afternoon. Later in the day this was followed by 'FF' with Blu Peter and Mrs Woods. Warriors with Karim and the late RR Fierce (a lovely man).

Thus Turnmills was on the map. Successful 'straight' nights also set up shop including the long running Gallery.

Remember that this venue was established by John Newman father of Tall Paul Newman so you get the idea?

Now the bad news - it's apparently closing down in the spring of 2008 (end of lease and hungry property developers) so if you are in London in the next couple of months and are a serious clubber get yourself along there pronto. I think you'll understand why it will be missed

A word of warning, if you like your pop cheezy then stay away, you'll not enjoy the experience and should hang out in the West Instead.
