As you explore the dimly lit back streets of Whitechapel, images of Victorian London are projected onto buildings to guarantee a highly atmospheric experience. Plus, an evening departure time means you’ll experience London at its most mysterious.

My friend and I thought it would be great to check out contemporary dance. The Place is the right place for that. The venue is very good and the crowd student hipster kind of crowd. The dances were rather strange in parts, but I'm sure that they made sense to other dancers. I don't think it's a good place for people which aren't into dance shows at all. One must have had some sort of dance show experience to appreciate this form of art... otherwise it will just look to them like a bunch of maniacs jumping up and down the stage. Some parts were entertaining but I don't think I will go there again. Once is enough for the experience.

went to see dance here for the first time in years, Its productions are much less commercial than those at the Peacock or Sadlers Wells. Saw 2Faced, an all male group. Staging was contemporary and interesting with chains used by the dancers to pull lighting down into different positions. 2 intervals. Over 2 hours of dance. The only thing was the theatre was very hot on a early April evening so they need to think about ventilation or cooling as it got very uncomfortable

Just across the way from Euston Station is The Place - a theatre to watch dance, studios to study dance and activities for all the family. There's also a really great value cafe in the basement which serves hearty and tasty generous portions of meatballs, moussaka for £5 etc to keep the energy and carb levels high if you're taking a dance class. I've been dozens of times over the years, but went over the weekend to see "the place" transformed as it hosts an annual one day festival for children. The decoration was transformed into sparkly curtains, yoyo tricksters and drawing whilst you dance. Throughout the rest of the year you can watch performances from European and experimental UK dance artists - which you might hate or fall in love with.

I use the Place as it's very close to Kings Cross, the British Library & Euston Station. It's a dance school and the cafe in the basement ( a staff/student canteen) is excellent for good, decent food at great prices. It's a canteen tray Buffett style set up with a coffee counter where various coffees made to order. The meals are five or six pounds and good portions , lasagne, curry, chilli, salads etc and a decent vegetarian choice. There's generally plenty of room and the staff are efficient and service is quick. This is not a restaurant- no table service but it's not touristy and it's very good value. There's various literature & pamphlets on dance, plays & the arts and being an operating dance school it's very interesting . I must try a play there one day
