    Great traditional pub.
I went with friends on a crawl of historic pubs in Central London. This was certainly the most beautiful. Ornate wood panelling, decorated glass panels. Even the toilets were a work of art. I drank a lovely pint of Sam Smith's bitter. We didn't eat here, but I am sure the food is great

    Beautiful old pub
This pub is a rare gem, the interior is beautiful. Original Victorian features throughout. It’s one of the last surviving gin palaces. Only criticism was that the toilets (downstairs) smelt so bad you could smell them on the ground floor, they made you gag. In need of a serious deep clean.

Inside wow. Rest of it not so much.
Wow to the magnificent interior, the booths and the coal fire. Stunning place. Not so wow to the staff and the choices on offer. No coffee as machine not working. So for a bottle of ale and a single vodka and coke, £15. It seems the place relies on its history and interior and couldn’t care less about being an actual decent pub. Glad I went, just to see inside. But would not go again.

A friends’ get-together in what is billed as a fine Victorian heritage pub, looking a bit run down.

For all their foibles and flaws, the main draw of a Sam Smith’s pub in London was that the average beer was much cheaper than anywhere else. No longer. £6.50 for a pint of their mediocre lager and £6 for a small bottle of ‘India Ale’. That and the staff being rude with their silly ‘no mobiles here’ t shirts.

For what they’re charging, you’d at least expect them to keep the interior clean. There were still fag burns on the chairs.

Visited twice while on vacation. Recommended by a friend because it was close to our hotel. First visit went well. Staff was friendly and attentive so we went back the next day. Very different experience. This time the bartender, young w/m with light hair and a beard, gave us this look of ambivalence as soon as we walked in. There were people inside but it wasn’t busy. We waited 10+ minutes and he only waited on one group pouring only four drinks. He couldn’t have gone any slower if we paid him. Too many pubs in the area to put up with that horse@#%!. Will never go back wouldn’t recommend.

We were looking for somewhere to get a pre theatre meal but on a wet Friday Valentines night, all of the bars around the Shaftesbury Theatre were absolutely packed, we came across this place as we were about to give up. The downstairs area was packed, but upstairs there is a lovely restaurant area! There was hardly anyone in there, so we ordered food & drinks which were spot on! We only had fish finger sandwiches , which came with chips & they were hot & delicious- and a huge bonus for me was that the tartare sauce came on the side! There was a range of meals, which all looked lovely - if I’m in the area again, I’d definitely return. It was just perfect!

Deserves 0 stars. Dirty floor at front , layers of dust on all the woodwork. Stuffing coming out of barstools. Rude Barman who could hardly be bothered to serve us and treated customers like an inconvenience.
We went for a drink on Friday afternoon, the place was not busy and I can see why it had few customers given its unwelcoming appearance.
Very limited drink choice as well as the other issues.
It’s a shame because the pub could be great if it was cleaned up and staffed by competent people.
Won’t be going back there.

Went in here with a friend for a beer. The place stinks of urine and stale beer. What a real pity. We stayed long enough for a beer but left. The staff were slow and rude.

I am not sure this place has been cleaned properly in years. I cannot imagine who would touch the food!

Clean the place thoroughly (a very deep clean) and change the staff.

Just entering the pub is an adventure of style. Lots of small rooms each with its own character. Good selection of drinks including its own label versions of popular ones. Food upstairs is good with friendly service and everything at very reasonable prices.

A must visit pub with regard to interior design, architecture and atmosphere. Sam Samuel’s pub so very limited on choice of drinks. However if you like their lager and fruit beers your in for a treat. Just around the corner to Holborn tube. Love the snob screen booths which originally separated working class drinkers from the middle classes.
