We come quite regularly as this is one of our more local climbing walls. I mostly climb Slimfasts routes as I find the others too tall for me. It sometimes feels as though the only way they can find to make routes harder is to make the holds further apart, and eventually they just exceed what I am tall enough to reach. But the facilities are clean and there is a reasonable selection of routes, so all in all, the climbing wall at least is good.

I spent many hours at Westway during my 20s and 30s, climbing. I know there are other facilities there, but it's a fair way for me to travel, so I go there for the climbing.

Today, I introduced my children (aged 7 and 8) to climbing, with instructor-led lessons.

I wanted to share that the kids really enjoyed it. The instructors were fantastic, knowing when to provide encouragement, reassurance and comfort - which is what my children needed - and when to push (other) kids they were no doubt more familiar with, to push and stretch themselves.

So in terms of instructor-led sessions, I am really impressed.

Facilities-wise, food and drink-wise, Westway has always been a bit lacking. On the other hand, it's there to provide space for activities, and it definitely does that very well.

Cost-wise, it has always felt like it could be a bit cheaper, but on the other hand, it's well-maintained and quality is good... and compared to private gyms, maybe I'm just hoping for 1990s pricing in the 2020s, so take my price grumbles with that in mind.

I love this place. It has the nicest instructors who are all fantastic at coaching people of all ages and abilities. The walls are well made and there are plenty of them. The people there are very nice but it is very hard to get booked in (with it though). I also wish they had some slightly harder routes. The best lead route they have is 7b+ which I am attempting to get beyond but have found some difficulty. However they still offer a fantastic bouldering range.

Took a beginners climbing course and loved it. The staff were helpful and our instructor was a lot of fun. The wall was huge and personally I was a but terrified... But still had fun. I learned enough that I could now go climb on my own here or at another climbing facility. The price was £95 for the course and that included everything. It was the best value for money that I could find in my research.

The centre also has lots of other sports so I might try tennis next. Also a lot of their kids programs looked great and mega cheap so u would recommend that.

Just be warned- if you try to get there from any station but latimer rd, you will have a bad time. You cant tell on the map but the highway is in the walking path and there is only one spot where pedestrians can pass. If you don't know where it is it's hard to find.

Avoid like the plague. It used to be enjoyable coming to this gym, until they installed a wooden platform and called it 'The Barbell Club'. Now you have to fight for an inch of space to do any sort of workout, due to these grunting, smelly people taking up all the space. Not content with taking up space with their bodies, they also have to have all their stuff laying around the gym. Weights, bags, drinks, you name it. There were lockers here before but they've disappeared to make way for these clowns.
Lots of women used to come here too, because it was a nice place to work out. Not anymore. They've sold their soul to these horrible specimens.

The Barbell Club has relocated temporarily to the Functional Fitness Studio ahead of planned investment at both our facilities. The area is still open for use and the women only sessions are running as usual. Although the lockers have been removed, there are still more than 80 lockers available to use in our main changing area. The Barbell Club only operate for 20 hours of the week and both the equipment and expertise of the club enables us to offer strength and conditioning programmes to adults and our performance juniors across football, tennis and climbing. If you have any other comments, please feel free to speak to us at your next visit or contact us at sports.fitness@westway.org.

Children loved it, went along with friends and joined in the public group. The walls are high but the children weren't fazed. Cheap activity on a rainy day. Suggest pre booking. Would recommend.

I booked a football party here for my 9 year old son and his friends to celebrate his birthday. I spoke to Shona, the sales representative and after finally managing to book it, I was able to come and pick up the party invitations which are included in the booking fee. On the pre-arranged day of pick up the receptionist could not find the pack Shona was meant to leave for me, but luckily found another to give me. Two days after I picked this up Shona called me saying that she needs consent forms to be singed otherwise the children wont be able to climb. To my shock I told her that my party in not for climbing but a football match. She apologised and quickly hanged up. On the day of the party I came earlier to ensure everything was set up and we were good to go. I went to the reception and asked which pitch we are on and when the coach (included in the party pack) is coming. They assured me he should arrive any moment. So I went back, waiting patiently. After 20 minutes on a pitch booked for one hour me and my husband got fed up and went back asking again for a coach. A coach arrived 35 minutes late only to say that there is no one available and that he does not know what happened, just left us with a few footballs and left me,, my husband and 12 kids!!! This was a huge let down by the whole team and especially the sales person whho was meant to organize a little party with no additional requests for a small group of children. Beware, the sales team here is awful, I strongly suggest not to bother, you have been warned! Shona never bothered to call back to apologize and admit a mistake.....

We are very sorry that was no coach for the party, there was an error with the communication of the booking. You will be fully reimbursed for the cost of the pitch and the coach. Your son will also be offered three free coaching sessions to be taken at your leisure. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further comments. Thank you.

In my 15 years of using gyms this would have to be the worst I have been to. There is completely no gym etiquette, weights are left anywhere and everywhere. A leg press machine was left with at least 150-200kg for someone else to unload. Barbells left in middle of walkways. And staff/trainers walking around with Westway shirts just stepping over the weights.

Toilet facilities weren’t clean either, all in all I’m glad it’s not a lock in 12 month membership.

*please note I’m only speaking in regards to the gym not the climbing facilities or tennis courts :)

Hi Matt, thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, constructive feedback is always useful. As I am sure you know and appreciate that the gym is unmanned, this ensures your price point stays low and the staff you see around the gym are Personal Trainers there to coach clients and not to tidy up after gym users (although we will be flagging this with them). We pride ourselves on the fantastic gym we offer for such a low price, if we were to hire full time gym staff we would then have to increase the membership prices. We are sure most of our customers would rather put their own weights away if faced with that choice. Taking your feedback on-board we are issuing a 'Gym Etiquette' statement that will be posted around the gym to ensure that everyone clearly knows that it is their responsibility to tidy up after themselves. We sincerely regret that you have had a negative experience at Westway and hopefully this will rectify the situation. We do hope to see you again soon. Many thanks, Westway Sports & Fitness Centre

I am a regular user of the climbing wall and I usually purchase a months subscription. I had an injury to my finger and wanted to pause my subscription, so that I won't waste several weeks that I had paid for when I could not climb. The management refused to do this without a doctor's note. This is not the case at other London climbing walls, for example the Arch, where pausing a membership is incredibly easy. Contrast here, where for some reason you were required to "prove" you were injured. What does it matter? If my subscription is paused, I can't use it anyway. There is no loss to the facility.
