The area
Neighborhood: Holborn
Inner London’s busiest streets crisscross quiet cobbled lanes for an effect that can be urbane or quaint – or an intriguing blend of both – depending on the particular corner you turn. Due to its especially convenient location, bustling Holborn hosts an excellent range of hotels, eateries, and shops to suit practically any taste or budget. With major attractions like the British Museum and Somerset House as well as popular areas such as Covent Garden and Soho all just a short walk away, Holborn is a smart base from which to explore London.

I saw a pair of earrings I liked on the Buy Fine Diamonds website. As I live in the midlands it seemed sensible to make an appointment to view them in the showroom at 88-90 Hatton Garden, rather than just turn up on spec. My appointment was confirmed. I also took the trouble to double check the day before my trip to London and I was told everything was in order for the following day.

The showroom turned out to be a very untidy room in a communal office building, but what really annoyed me was that the earrings weren't available with no proper explanation. Jigar told me that I would be contacted one the earrings were in stock-probably the following week- but that was nearly a month ago.

From the business card I was given it appears that Buy Fine Diamonds are connected with Black Diamond Jewellery and Platinum Diamonds.

Initially when I went to get my wedding rings the customer service was great and the people were really friendly. Then lockdown happened and the lady didn’t really know what was happening. Then... when I went to collect and pay for the rings I was really happy initially. The rings looked really good so was extremely happy with them. However, the colleagues asked that we pay the remaining balance in cash and we did. We paid and the money was not counted in front of as .. which is common sense?! ... 30 mins after leaving the shop, we get a call saying we paid £100 less. Now despite me counting the money twice, the fact of the matter was that the money should have been counted before we left the shop. We left the shop in a upset way. The rings looked really good but it’s a shame that after purchasing the ring the service was terrible and left on a sad note. I would recommend the place because the rings looked good but I would also ensure that they count the money in front of you before you leave the shop. I am not sure why the gentleman had to go to the back of the shop to count money and didn’t do it in front of us.

My fiancé and I decided on a collaborative effort to find the perfect engagement ring. We explored the diamond market globally, including many world leading retailers and independents, both remotely and in person in multiple countries and cities. Whilst we found some great sellers in the US, we soon realised that Hattan Garden had THE best capability in a condensed area to find not only best price but also no compromise on quality when looking for higher end stones that you don’t normally see in retail outlets. We visited every store that was open In Hattan Garden and eventually met Siraj, the owner of Divine Diamonds. I’m sure it is possible to find these ‘gems in the rough’ outside of Hattan Garden also, but it is rare and hard to find, so we are delighted to have met Siraj. Siraj worked with us to find the perfect diamond within budget and set it into a beautiful ring for us, based on one of the designs he had on display. As well as being a nice and trustworthy person, he kept his margins low, yet turn around very quick and quality very high. In my experience he really does offer the best choice for high end stones, highest quality of manufacture and best prices available from Hattan Garden - these were all critical factors for us and Siraj won on all elements by far! I’m not sure why someone left a harsh review on here and can only imagine it is likely a competitor with a grudge. We are very grateful to Siraj and his lovely team who really went above and beyond for us, thank you! It was not a small amount of money and I will definitely go back for any high end or any budget jewellery requirements.

I went around the garden to get prices for gold i wanted to sell. I wont name and shame but most shops I went into to get a price and test they was so pushy and wanted me to sell to them at that moment.

the area itself is nice but I wouldn't go there to sell gold/jewellery.

to add to this.. I took my gold to a shop in edgware road where I saw they had really good reviews on google (yardna jewellery) and the service was amazing in comparison to the shops in Hattton Garden.

Abiba Jewellery

Went to Hatton garden to purchase a 30th anniversary ring. Visited most shops in the street and then came across Abiba. What a delight. Nothing was to much trouble and they went to great lengths to find the best diamond ring for my budget. I have to say that I also phoned them many times to check info that I needed and they couldn’t have been more helpful. I dealt mainly with Sam who was delightful- but all the other staff were lovely as well. Highly recommend

Con artist. Went to buy engagement and wedding ring. Said he could give us everything, took our deposit and gave us nothing. Been calling, texting, emailing, went down in person. They keep saying it’s being made, they will be in touch but nothing. They just fob you off with stories. They have security to remove you. Got us to sign a contract so can’t get your money back.

New owners have ramped up prices and recruited less experienced staff who put far less care than the previous family run owners. The shop looks great, and very prominent, but avoid if you want something special.

I was absolutely delighted to find my perfect engagement ring at Elegance Jewellers on 26 June 2016. It was a beautiful 0.81ct emerald cut diamond in a white gold four claw setting. The ring was resized and I collected it on 30 June having paid in cash. I was thrilled and showed everyone my ring.

Unfortunately by the 5th September my beautiful diamond had fallen out of the ring. The good news was it really does sparkle and I was able to find it in the carpet. The bad news is my perfect ring that was supposed to last a life time sadly didn't.

I went back into Elegance who have offered me two options. Firstly to reset the diamond and secondly for me to have a replacement ring.

If you are buying a ring from Elegance Jewellers it really is a case of BUYER BEWARE:

1. Your diamond may fall out
2. You may be lucky enough to find it, if not Elegance Jewellers will tell you that's a job for your insurance
3. You won't get a refund if it breaks

I am furious I am not being offered a refund and don't have trust in a product which was clearly not fit for purpose.

Lots to choose from here when shopping for engagement rings. It's hard to recommend any particular shop with there being so many to chose from, although we enjoyed great service in Raphael's.

However, one place I would recommend avoiding would be Madison. We experienced a very rude and confrontational salesman whose hard sell, other than making us feel very uncomfortable, made him look like he had no care in the world for what we were after, with his only care being getting as much money from us as possible.

This is a workshop rather than a storefront and unfortunately they completely ripped my fiancé off. He didn't know anything about diamonds (and yes should have done more research), but we have since researched the diamond he was sold and it was for waaaay more than could be bought elsewhere for the same graded diamond. Not just slightly more but twice as much so even small factors wouldn't make this much difference. It is really sad because it has taken the shine off the ring for us and although it's not about the price, it is horrible to think he was cheated out of so much money when he had saved for three years :(
