We have been to the royal blackheath golf club twice now to celebrate a birthday in the family, and it does not leave you disappointed. As you walk down the grand entrance up to the security gate, you realised why this golf club is one of the oldest golf club around. The manicured putting green, the way the fairways are looked after just oozes with class. We entered the club house, and as you climb the staircase to where you dine, look at the honours boards dating back as long as the year dot. You then get greeted by the staff, who on both occasions, you cannot fault for there attention to detail and they showed us to our table, from the window you get to see another vista looking out over the golf course and the surrounding areas the word tranquil comes to mind. On both occasions we had the Sunday lunch, so please visit the Royal Blackheath Golf Club website to enquire. So in summary, this wonderful golf club, will hopefully get you in your car and DRIVE from a FAIRWAY to visit, and don’t be late so PUTT and date in your diary to visit as soon as possible.

The oldest golf club in the world who celebrated their 400th anniversary in 2008. The club house is one of the most impressive in the uk with an museum containing many of the origins of golf and golf competitions.

We had Sunday lunch. It was impossible to book online and no one replied when I left a telephone message. I eventually found an email address but booking should be much easier. The venue is splendid and plenty of parking. Staff very friendly. Lunch was £25 per head for three courses. Strangely we were required to say what we wanted for dessert when we ordered our starter and main course. Three great points: no music, real napkins, water on the table without having to ask. Service was very slow but we were brought a bread roll to help pass the time. My soup was delicious and my wife's garlic mushrooms were fine. My Pork was good although not outstanding but my wife's salmon was really bad. Not only was it overcooked but did not have any sauce. Instead it was swimming in a green liquid which looked like the water the broccoli had been cooked in. Not nice to look at and not nice to eat. Dessert was better: I had the panna cotta and my wife the lemon tart. However, coffee was brought with dessert so it was cold by the time we got to drink it and we were not asked whether we wanted it or offered any alternatives. The venue has a lot of potential but needs far more work to improve service and food before we go back.

The Royal Blackheath Golf Club is open to non members for Sunday lunch. On the plus side the staff are friendly, there is no music, they have real napkins. As regards the actual food - My husband had the soup which was good, then he had roast pork. The crackling definitely had a crunch but the rest of the main was fairly ordinary and he enjoyed the pudding. I had for my main the salmon, dreadful, it arrived swimming in a green water. It was supposed to have a watercrest sauce! I do not call green water a sauce. The lemon tart for pudding was tasty. The service started slow but it was clear they wanted to get us out as they were rushing us by pudding time. Overall I would not recommend for Sunday lunch.
