The area
Address
Neighborhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
How to get there

Great location
Dec 2015 • Business
Great location, with views of the OXO tower along with the Shard and the other building along the Embankment. Attended here on a works do, it's a good little venue but essentially is a ship and therefore if the police speed past, you rock side to side quite a bit :) also a few drinks and the toilets being downstairs is not great, but it's great that they haven't changed the design just to accommodate picky people like me. Thought it was great, but the service provided obviously depends on the package or the type of function being held. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Lovely Afternoon Pimms and Platter
Jun 2015 • Friends
I had a lovely afternoon on board HMS President. I had ordered the Pimms and Platter deal on Groupon. The staff were all very nice and didn't rush us. The view on board was great and it was lovely watching the world go by.

Interesting ship but not a lot to see on board
Sep 2015 • Solo
I visited today as part of London Open House Event.Obviously extremely interesting and historical ship to have moored on the Embankment. It is essentially a hospitality area and there is little of historical interest once you get on board.

Afternoon Pimms and Platter (cheese)
Sep 2015 • Couples
We had a Groupon deal and booked an early evening slot. The boat and location are superb, right on the Thames along the Embankment. For those travelling by the tube, the nearest stop is Temple and it is a 4 minute walk from there. The cheese platter was good with a reasonable selection of different cheeses and we were served a large jug of Pimms. The service was not so good with the few staff that were on duty, very dis-interested in providing a service to their customers. We also ordered a chicken burger and chips which was served luke warm. We understand they order food in so wonder if this was the reason? Plus a silly £10 minimum card payment limit which in this day and age is not on. They need to work on their service to make it a truly wonderful experience. I just get the feeling that this is not on their menu, which is a great pity given the location.

Dear TheHuntsWorthing, Thank you for your custom and review on TripAdvisor. We are sorry your experience wasn't as expected. We value our customers and always try to make our client experience the best we can, however we also understand that we staff can have bad days and sometimes we do not always get this right. We will look into the staffing on the day and see where we have fallen short with our service and look to how we can better this. We hope that you will return so that can rekindle your views on our much-loved WWi ship. Thank you again for your custom. Best regards

All aboard!

The evening came about through friends booking via Groupon, they couldn't go so passed the voucher on to us. The administration to change the voucher name and details was surprisingly pain free, the people we spoke to on the telephone couldn't have been more polite or helpful.

When we arrived at HMS President it has to be said, people were sitting at our 'reserved' table , but this was quickly remedied so no problem. We had two pitchers of Pimms which to be honest wasn't the strongest I've ever tasted but was most pleasant none the less, with plenty of fruit, mint, cucumber and ice. Between four of us we opted for a sharing cheese and meat platter. These were both excellent, with a good selection of cold meats including, hams, salami and pate. The cheese platter was also very good with the choice of either a soft or hard cheese, two small bowls of salad with feta and a small basket of bread. A request for a second basket of bread did not cause any problem the staff were not the quickest but perfectly amiable. All in all a very pleasant way to spend the early part of a Friday evening.

Mad Dog takes the Queens Shilling(again)
Aug 2015 • Family
Mrs M and myself returned onboard for another nautical outing. This time we took the little Mad Dogs to see what they thought. As last time all was very good with two platters(cheese and meat) and two jugs of Pimms. We had quite good weather which, I think makes all the difference and sofas on the upper scupper in the sun.
Read some of the reviews since our last outing here and can,t understand the complaints regarding the afternoon teas. When we went the teas seemed pretty good. This time I made a point of asking people what they thought and got good reports so.......
So all were happy including the Junior Ratings (aged 22 and 24). Thinking back the only thing that could spoil you day would be if you were given a table on the lower gangways and maybe in the shade as the sarnies and cakes looked good........

One more thing as I said Mad Dog likes a bargain. One of the beers they sell has an app that gives you a discount or bogof or something so take advantage lubbers..

Dear Mad Dog, We are delighted that you enjoyed being onboard HMS President again and we are also pleased The Little Mad Dogs enjoyed their experience. We appreciate your knowledge about the history; knowing from your last review that you were onboard the ship in 1977. Thank you for pointing out that some reviewers get a little disheartened when the our British weather is unkind to us and expectations are lowered by some guests when not being able to sit on the "Upper Scupper" as you were fortunate to enjoy. We very much appreciate your return business and look forward to welcome you and your family back again in the near future. Best regards, The HMSP Team.

‘Historic and atmospheric venue’
Sep 2015 • Couples
If you want a shiny new chrome and glass Bar (as some reviewers seem to), this won’t be for you; but if you like an historic venue, with uninterrupted views up and down the Thames, then you could do a whole lot worse. The vessel dates from the First World War (built 1918) and provides a wonderfully atmospheric backdrop for a drink and/or meal. Admittedly we were fortunate: a rare lunch-time without rain and even an occasional glimpse of sun, so we were able to enjoy our Groupon cheese platter and Pimm’s on deck. Both were fine, if unexceptional; and the service was first-rate. So altogether very good value – and we would certainly return to this unusual venue, with its extremely reasonable prices.

Lovely afternoon tea
Aug 2015 • Friends
After reading reviews on here I was a little worried about going , however there was no need to feel like that . The sandwiches were fresh, the salmon ones had a huge piece of poached salmon in , no scrimping . The cakes were fresh and tasty and the scones were great too. There was only one pot of tea but we were offered fresh pots twice , good quality tea , and service from friendly smiley staff. Very good afternoon tea, would def recommend this for anybody .

Lovely afternoon tea on board HMS President
Aug 2015 • Friends
Despite the rain we had a lovely afternoon tea on board HMS President.
The food was plentiful and very nice and it didn't matter sharing a pot of tea for 2 as there was plenty of cups for both of us.
The staff were very helpful and took a group photo for us and showed us outside despite the rain.
