Popped into Wood Street Indoor Market for a browse & was pleasantly surprised at the amount of stores there - about 30 in total. There seems to be something for everyone:

Preloved, vintage/retro clothing with Sustainable Style by SK, Vintage Tony and Jimmy Mack

Jewellery and costumes from Fabulist Costume, RoseCraft jewellery shop and repairs, Ken’s Flea watch and Clock repairs and Victoria Pike Handmade Jewellery and Crochet

Beauty salons - Biba Browns Boutique and Salon, Nail
Lab E17, Beauty @ Anu, Oje’s Hair and Lashes, Claudia Rose Lashes and B&A Foot Care and Herbal Teas

It’s a haven for music fans with three record shops: Rays Records, Mikes Record Shop and Bens Records

New toys and games at Rinkie’s Toys and a flashback to childhood memories with preloved toys from Toys in the Attic

Vintage and antique homeware and goods at Lot Eight Antiques and Mrs Tinsley’s Vintage

Artisan goods from Lilac Domino wool shop and Moroccan Corner

Film posters at ReelStore gives off that retro feel for the avid movie fans while at ArtsworxLondon you can purchase art prints, pieces of wall art and have custom made pieces done.

There’s a florist Nisha’s Blooms, a cosy book shop Books For What Ails You, for your gardening decor and helping wildlife with The Green Room and for indoors The Shutter and Blind Shop plus Tokens and Treats selling gifts and personalised items

Finally after browsing all these stores there’s Stow Grab and Go selling drinks and snacks and Homies on Donkies selling the best tacos in town!

For a relatively compact market it is well worth a visit with friendly, approachable vendors who are only too happy to help you without being pushy - unlike some of those down Walthamstow High Street

My partner and I are both 20-something year olds who recently moved into Wood Street, and this is our local market. Contrary to what the previous reviewer thinks, I see the neon lights and urban art work on white brick walls as a part of this market's soul and charm. There are certainly not just antiques here... you can come here for cake decorating, picture framing, gorgeous vintage clothing, vinyls and more. There is a shop dedicated to football memorabilia and (our personal favourite) a shop dedicated to 60s mod era clothing and trinkets. This is a gem of a market with a real community atmosphere. Next door is the adorable Georgian village market which I go to for cheap beauty treatments. My partner and I also regulars at Hillmans tea shop which serves lovely homemade sandwiches and cakes, and the Caribbean food stand (also now a rum bar) at the end of the alley. Wood Street indoor market is much quieter than it deserves to be but at least this separates it from the busy, over priced markets of central London. This is not the largest market in the world, but I would strongly recommend one visits this little gem of Walthamstow.

The market is a lovely place to visit. All the shops are full and open and Friday and Saturday the market is buzzing. 75 % of the market traders have been here under a year and there has been new caretaker since February. Well worth a visit. The newest addition is a lovely cafe with homemade food.

Possibly you have never heard before of this little known indoor market and after a first experience one might be very much tempted to say...well, don't bother to go there. And here is why.
More accidentally we (me and my husband) found out about the existence of this market and decided to give it a try because we love markets. This is supposed to be open 6 days a week. But after we entered the rather uninviting looking main entrance of the market we had to realize very soon that the majority of the shops were either closed, a few were completely empty and in a lot of the shops which were open, nobody was to be seen. Only glaring cold neonlights everywhere. And that on a Thursday... Very few visitors were around anyway. In a shop window of a little antiques shop we spotted a small pocket watch. A sign on the door told us that we should go to the cake shop in unit 20 in case we have a question. So we went to that unit only to find another sign telling us 'I am in the garden' which sent us all the way back. There we asked for the owner of the antiques shop only to be asked (barked at would describe it better) 'what do you want'. No hello, no smile, nothing... Reluctantly the 'gentleman' followed us back to his shop. He opened it up but didn't even let us inside his shop to browse. Strange enough. So my husband pointed at two items which caught his interest. A watch and a British medal. The shop smelled rather mouldy and was an absolute mess (on a scale of chaos from one to ten I would say it was an eleven) with antiques and bric-a-brac flying around everywhere. It was very obvious that the owner did not care whatsoever. There was a variety of other militaria but unfortunately most of it obvious fakes. After taking a short look at medal and watch (my husband had the intention to buy) the shopowner became quite hostile for no obvious reason at all and barked in a rude and patronising manner 'What, is that to rich for you? How much money do you have on you?' ( The watch was 20, the medal 30 pounds.) Quite astonished but friendly my husband told him that he should not worry about that, only to be shown another item he was not interested in because it was a fake ( and a real bad one on top of that). After telling that to the impatient shopowner hell broke loose. He claimed to be an expert and that he would only sell genuine items (no, they are not, at least not all) and that he would bet 1000 pounds that they are genuine. My husband should take the bet there and now or piss off. So much for that. The gentleman simply wasn't a gentleman at all and he should put up a warning sign 'dear unappreciated customer beware: stay away'. We never encountered such hostility and unwillingness of a seller before. So far, this one topped our alltime list of grumpiness. At least so far... On our way out of the market - we had enough - we saw a few watches in another shopwindow and decided - once again - to give it a go. My husband entered the shop whereas I had to stand halfway in the door. The shop was crammed. And here too - what a surprise we encountered unwillingness and reluctance and hostility. After taking a short look ( 20 seconds maybe) at the first watch, my husband wanted to look at the rest of the watches only to be told ' don't waste my time, I am busy' and to be shoved out of the door. For a brief moment we thought we were in the wrong film. The type of western movie were a stranger enters a saloon and literally runs against a wall of hostility. In this case (and that I explained before) the wall was built of a nasty attitude and bad manners. The whole situation was more than surreal. I ask you fellow reader. A market is there to visit and browse, right? I see you are nodding enthusiastically. So far, so good. We agree. If someone has a sign on his shopdoor saying 'open', you enter, ask politely and take a look at the items on offer, right again? Of course! These are the holy market rules. But here in this market these eternal rules seem no longer valid! You, as potential customer are nothing than a mere nuisance. Please don't dare to bother his majesty the shopowner and given these nasty experiences we had, we might say... Well, I think you are getting the point here...

Wood Street Market is a welcoming, friendly and happy place now that the antiques expert and his partner have left. I and others were intimidated by their attitude and bad language. All the shops are full now with lots of bright and lovely things and it is a pleasure to browse there.

Have visited Wood Street Market three times and will be going back. If you are looking for something special as a gift or for yourself this is a good place to start. It also has one of the best tea rooms around.

I'd lived in Walthamstow for 5 years until I stumbled upon this wonderful market. As a vintage enthusiast it is an amazing place to find one off pieces with 4/5 of the shops selling fabulous vintage clothing. There's something for everybody with a large selection of records, gifts and cards, knitting supplies, cake decorating, antiques, food and much more. I found the traders friendly and more than willing to help out or just have a chat. If you haven't been put it on your list of things to do (especially if you live in Walthamstow)

Was at a loss one rainy Saturday when we stumbled upon this lovely little market. Friendly traders and lots of interesting shops. Many collectables, vintage clothing and gifts. A great place to visit. Parking is a bit of an issue but there's plenty of buses to take you there.
