Website should be updateds states that the bar is open till midnight I went into pub after finishing work at 20 past 11 barman was serving I asked for a beer and he said sorry mate we're finished i said you're just after serving a customer he told that they were friend's I asked him why would you serve friends and not a customer he again told me that he was closed and give me the thumbs up and smirked at me . A person who I would think was the manager looked to be doing a rota at the hatch watched all this and said nothing
I came in from city road enterence back door was open when I left outside lights were on and A board on the street
I have been a publican for 40 years and would treat all customers as friends this was a bad experience and I won't be back

Still a fav

There's always a lovely atmosphere in this bar, and that's probably because of the upstairs theatre. The outside seating area is small, but you can usually get a seat. The staff are always friendly too.

Blood Orange, a play written and starring Tania Amsel
Dec 2019 • Friends
Totally blown away by this one woman show.
Tania Amsel captivated the packed audience with an amazing performance as Amy, a junior doctor, with a tragic past

So much humour, warmth and compassion....and I actually felt her pain.

Tania Amsel is a very convincing and capable actor, and I would highly recommend this play. She is also extremely likeable and down to earth. At the end of her performance she stood and personally interacted with the audience as we all.left.

Hope to see you perform again soon, Tania!

A wonderful part of London theatre scene

A intimate small pub theatre near Angel underground station. There are a number of pub theatres in this area a great alternative to the West End. The acting was superb and the atmosphere being in such a small venue was wonderful.

Historical Pub Over 600 Years Old!
Jun 2019 • Friends
Only in UK can we find such long standing historical pubs and I love it!

Met up with some friends visiting London and we came in the for a catch up and chat and nice atmosphere inside.

Had no idea there’s a theatre upstairs and there were lots of people. Will definitely check it out next time.

My style of theatre. Went there very spontaneously. So chill, you can buy a beer and take it with you, no need to hang jackets anywhere, you can choose your place yourself. The play ”Anomaly” was very touching.

Disappointing.

I don’t know what has happened to this pub. It used to be welcoming, with a selection of ales. It never seems to have any draught beers these days but is always waiting for the Godot delivery to arrive. OK if you want strident football and swill lager. Otherwise there are many other local options.

A pub running out of beer and always awaiting a delivery.
Oct 2018 • Friends
Been to see a few excellent horror plays at the venue over recent weeks but the pub itself is suffering from a lack of beer varieties. Most of the lager pumps are not working although they are lit up and so too are many of the ales. A friend asked about this at the start of the month and was assured a delivery was imminent and yet, weeks later - still dry pumps. Something is up - I once saw a member of staff come in carrying two supermarket bags full of bottles of spirits and go behind the bar. That's not how things are done. I think management needs a change or a refresher course on the basics. No longer enjoy going there and wonder why people still keep putting shows on in the theatre.

Theatre and Pub, both brilliant
Aug 2018 • Couples
I've been drinking in the Old Red Lion on and off for a while. Staff are brilliant and the drinks are varied at great prices for a central London pub.
First time theatre goer there and now I'm hooked. Intimate setting where we saw Lamplighters and looking forward to the HorrorFest.
Whether stopping off for a swift respite and a pint or a night out, this is a great pub.
