In the absence of a holiday away from home in 2020, I was keen to improve my knowledge of the history and geography of the City of London (an area where I have never worked,so not familiar with all the back streets etc.). Having previously joined a Dickens Tour with Richard, I knew the Secret London one would probably fit the bill, as Richard is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the city. I was not disappointed. While some of the walk covered areas I had previously explored, I found out new things about these streets and buildings, and I was also introduced to other hidden gems. I think it is an interesting walk whether you are a resident or a tourist. This is the perfect time to do the walk as the streets in the city are almost deserted so you can explore without the hustle and bustle of normal city life and linger at a relaxed pace.

One thought for Richard: While we’re coming out of lockdown,it might be helpful to reassure potential clients that toilet facilities can be found near the route of the walk. There are definitely some pubs and eateries open.

Our tour was taken by Jeremy. He was great, very engaging and projected well so we could all hear clearly. He involved the group and kept us well entertained whilst being very knowledgable. Registration on arrival was very easy and we started on time. You will see lots of other Ripper tours in the same area, at one stage there were 6 groups in the same square but we could still hear clearly and each group seemed to have their favourite place to stand so it wasn’t a problem.
There were a mixture of people in our group, a couple of American tourists, some families with teenagers and couples of various ages but everyone seemed to be engaged. People will wander through but Jeremy just pretended they were part of the tour with a friendly witty comment.

This is the first tour we have done so I can’t compare with other tours but we will definitely book again with Discovery Tours, perhaps the Ghost or Secret London tour.

We very much enjoyed Richard's Christmas Carol tour, learning much about Dickens, the story and its context including why Dickens wrote it in the first place. A few days later attended a production of A Christmas Carol and for the first time properly understood the detail.

I was a little worried that my family might have too much Dickens for one week when doing both but it was in fact a great benefit.

Hello John Thank you for your comments, I do appreciate hearing back. I am so pleased to hear that you and your family enjoyed your tour, finding the 'back story' of the novella interesting. 'Too much Dickens' - never :-) But once again, many thanks and so pleased the tour added to your enjoyment of the production you attended. Best wishes Richard

So first met Richard a couple of years ago on an evening guided tour 'Ghost Tour' in the City and it was brilliant and he was first rate as a guide and raconteur. His history knowledge is spectacular. So I bought a private tour and we did 'Secret London' last Sunday. Just four of us and Richard and he didn't disappoint. Totally fascinating and enjoyable over 2 hours in the heart of the City. Richard hails from Stoke on Trent but you wouldn't think it - he should have the freedom of the City - a superb representative and keeper of historical facts and tales. Thanks Richard we will certainly do another walk next year.

On a recent visit to London to celebrate my Mom's birthday, I booked with Richard Jones to do his walking tour of London focused on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" - we had an absolutely AMAZING time! It was absolutely the highlight of our visit to London! It really exceeded our already high expectations – Richard was wonderful, such a warm person 😊 Not only was his tour exceptionally informative and entertaining, but I was also really touched by how attentive he was to my Mom, who was dealing with some mobility issues during our trip. Richard really put his all into his time with us, and for that I am deeply grateful. I couldn't recommend taking a walking tour with Richard Jones more enthusiastically!

Thank you, Richard - we're all looking forward to our next walking tour with you!

This was a fantastic Tour. We did the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour, we were lucky to have Jeremy as our tour guide. He was amazing, he was so engaging, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and just a great guide. I went with my two children, 16 and 20 and they both thoroughly enjoyed this too. If you love history and are interested in Jack the Ripper's victims, then please please book this tour. We are definitely going to book another tour with this company.

My partner and I took one of Richard Jones' ghost walks around London and found it to be totally captivating. We were taken around central London to some remarkably historically significant places which could speak for themselves, but they didn't have to as Richard uses a sense of theatre to convey to great effect; this could be overdone by lesser walk guides, but Richard strikes a good balance of fact and vaudeville. All in all some great history and some spooky ghost stories, and an hour and a half which seemed to fly by in ten minutes. Full marks.

We did the Saturday night Alleyways & Shadows Walk with Richard Jones and it delivered everything it promised. Richard is extremely knowledgeable, informative, professional and clear in his explanations. He held his audience’s attention throughout the walk and can be clearly heard whether you are at the front or back of the (in this case large) group. The topics covered were fascinating; the walk is not strenuous and is well paced. Great value and great fun.

I always try to fit in a ghost walk if I’m vacationing in a city that lends itself to that sort of thing. The ghost stories were pretty chilling but the tour actually felt like more of a myths, legends, and history tour with some hauntings thrown in. Problem? Not at all; I actually really liked the various stories. He even shows you film locations when you pass them like from Mary Poppins Returns which I’d just watched on the flight across the pond.

I was worried we wouldn’t be able to locate our guide but you don’t need to worry about that in the slightest as he comes dressed in something straight out of the Haunted Mansion at Disney (love!). Like his costume, he gives the tour a very theatrical show. A passionate guide makes for an entertaining tour!

While the tour didn’t exactly fully satisfy my craving for a paranormal experience in London, I think it was worth doing. I hadn’t heard any of these histories or legends and they span from brushes with the devil to literary influences so there is something for everyone! It’s a fun way to take in the city in a way you wouldn’t have seen it before. I’d recommend not leaving this to the end of your trip like we did, however! He recommends a lot of cool things to check our on your own which I would’ve liked to have visited if I’d have had more time.

Er had a Great experience at the Jack The Jack The Ripper Tour, and we would recommend this tour to everyone who wants to be scared for reel. It was no trouble to find the meeting Spotify :Exit 4 at Alder gate tub station. The walk took about 2 hours and it didn't seem like at all like two hours, moren like 30 minutes,, but use good walking shooes or boots, case the brickstones will get anyone back problems or store feet after Just 20minutes. The guide, Richard, was full off knowledge and semester to be a live story/fact book himself.
I can"t Waitz to go back to London ghost walks, to discover more dark stores from the City that never sleeps.
I enjoyed every minute of ut, and now, with the New DNA technology, it was perhaps even more interesting,
I would like to recommend this tour to all the Jack The Ripper fans who want a grusomme tour(in a good way) , packed with facts and history, Wonder and av solide well informere night out. I would do it again if I get the oportunity,
🤗 Thank You So much for letting us in on some facts and history that Even experience Londoners don"t have a clue about, it was totally over the top interesting.
It was amazing!!! Thank You!
X from Beate, Norway.
