‘Quirky’ is the word that inevitably comes to mind when describing the Lexi. The building, accessed by pushing open a quaint green garden gate, looks like it could have served as a library, or a youth centre, or maybe a church hall in its former life. Their website states the building actually used to be a derelict pool hall before becoming a cinema. Equally wacky is the message written on the front wall in big block capital letters, beseeching passers-by to 'love me'. Its location is unusual, too, being entirely surrounded by residential properties (although I believe there are pubs and eateries further south on Chamberlayne Road).

Inside the Lexi, there is a foyer and bar area where you can buy things like popcorn, crisps, sweet treats and even a cold beer, and there are two movie screens. The screening rooms are smaller than what you’ll be accustomed to at the big chain cinemas, however this creates an intimate, cosy setting to watch your film. In Screen 2, the seats were comfortable with plenty of leg room and the air con was pitched at just the right level. You won’t find many blockbusters at the Lexi but it’s not that kind of cinema. We were there to watch 'Last Man Standing', Nick Broomfield’s follow-up documentary to his 2002 film 'Biggie & Tupac', exploring the murders of rappers Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur, and before our film started, the trailers offered tasters of other documentaries, foreign language films and opera performances. These are movies for niche audiences but it’s good there is an outlet for them and going to the Lexi is a refreshing change from the cookie-cutter experience of seeing a film at the average high street multiplex.

Lovely local

Despite having lived here for 25 years we’d never visited the Lexi. We have missed out! Lovely comfortable local cinema just a short walk away. Good sound and very comfortable seats - lots of leg room. And without the hassle of a journey into the West End. We’ll be back!

Ill children in Kensal Rise
Dec 2019
People looking at phones and texting is very common at the Lexi. When asked to turn off their phopes the offenders claim they have sick children at home and need to keep in contact. There are more sick children near the Lexi than any other cinema I have ever known.

I'd choose this over a chain cinema any day!

This is a cosy, cost effective, and intimate place to watch a great range of movies brand new and classic, and above all it's heart is certainly in the right place as all moneys go towards an African charity. The only glitch for me is the front seating isn't comfortable enough for me for a long film, besides that the staff are very friendly and theirs a good atmosphere of people who have passion for cinema.

Great cozy local cinema

Lexi is a gem in Kensal Green. It’s an independent cinema supported by locals who donate their time to run it. The venue acts as a gallery for artists by displaying their work (just to mention some: prints, paintings, drawings, pictures, installations).

There is a bar serving drinks and food/ snacks to visitors. Service is very helpful and friendly.
I saw quite a few movies on these premises and always enjoy my time spent here.

Additionally I like that the cinema very much supports idea of sustainability/ green energy/ antiglobalisation and anti- global warming.

Amazing Cinema and all profits go to Charity

Went to see Rocketman on a cloudy Monday afternoon. Bought a bottle of Cava and expected to have to take it in, in the awful plastic cups. What a lovely surprise to not only have the bar tender bring it to our seats in an ice bucket but be given glasses. Absolutely love this place and can't wait to go back soon. Just booked to see yesterday.

A very friendly, nice cinema with showings at very reasonable prices. We were able to find nearby street parking.

A lovely, friendly, little cinema that is a true social enterprise. It supports an environmental, teaching organisation in South Africa and is staffed by local volunteers. You can buy wine, craft beers, a mug of tea, fresh popcorn, good quality snacks and watch great independent films...all in cosy comfort. We also watched an NT live showing of Antony & Cleopatra there. It was as close as we could get to having the big screen in our front room. It’s one of Kensal Rise’s jewels!

My first time at this venue. My first time watching the Opera live from New York. It was awesome . I'm a normal theatre goer but this was very special. Sat next to an amazing lady and her father (Irish) . There was nothing pretenous or snooty about the whole evening . Very friendly bunch . I can recomend very highly to anyone .
