Rob Smith led a fascinating tour of nearly-lost maritime history, showing its hidden traces amongst the brash new Docklands buildings as well as the wonderfully idiosyncratic area round the Trinity Buoy Arts Centre. He was a very informative and entertaining guide with a passion for his subject. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed Rob Smith’s ‘Paintings of London in Tate Britain’ last week. The tour was relaxed but informative, and there was an interesting mix of paintings. Some of the artists were familiar (Whistler and Canaletto), others were unknown, such as Balthazar Nebot with his delightful, if rather sanitised depiction of Covent Garden market in the 18th century. There was also... More

After our previous wonderful afternoon with Mark we couldn't resist taking another walk with him. This time we did the 'Heroes and Villains' walk. Our expectations were high following our last walk, and Mark didn't disappoint. He is funny, knowledgeable, interesting and such good company. We are already planning our next walk with him. We learnt such interesting things about... More

Thank you so much for arranging a private tour for me at such short notice after I was let down by another company. Marilyn Greene was knowledgeable and brought to life the history of Hampstead while also allowing us to indulge in a spot of house admiration! I had no idea that there were so many small lanes and beautiful... More

I've lived in London for over forty years but I'm still always delighted to hear new stories about its history and discover hidden corners. I've done the first three of the walks along the River Thames to the sea and have found them all a marvellous way to explore a city I thought I already knew well.

I took two Footprints of London tours when I visited London earlier this month. Both guides - Sean Patterson (Charles Booth Poverty Maps - ) and Rob Smith (Maritime Blackwall - Spice Traders and Ship Builders) were excellent - informative and engaging. Both walks enhanced my understanding of London and the neighborhoods we visited. I highly recommend both of these... More

Rob Smith gave a really interesting tour with stories of spies and key buildings. He was very knowledgeable and told the story well. 2 hours just flew by as he guided us expertly from St James underground, through Green Park and past key points of interest. We had a great time. Thanks Rob.

Attended this walk on a windy sunday morning despite that it was a most wonderful couple of hours expertly guided by Andrew. I had visited Poplar before but Andrews knowledge of Housing history brought the area to life. Recommended for anyone interested in the subject

Rob Smith's tour around the now almost vanished East India dock area was a veritable trip back in time to the days when the Thames was almost gridlocked with tall sailing ships setting out to and returning from the Spice Islands and beyond laden with exotic cargoes. Rob's in-depth knowledge of the area and his effective use of illustrations helped... More

I've now been on 3 walks led by Rob Smith. Each one was excellent. Rob clearly does a lot of research and gives both a historic overview as well as interesting little stories. I've discovered a lot about places I thought I knew inside out. Looking forward to more soon.
