- Ian BWoking, United Kingdom33 contributionsIntensive Beginners Course - Recommended.I attended the Beginners Intensive Course having been given a voucher by friends for my birthday…they chose well! The 6 hours fly by and cover a lot of new ground for people like me who have shot on Auto all their lives. Our pro Aga presented everything in an engaging way, giving the 5 of us plenty of time to complete the practical exercises that followed each section of listening. I have a second voucher for the Intermediate course and look forward to visiting Wimbledon Art Studios again for that next year…when I’ve taken 000’s more pics on manual!Hi Ian, Thank you for sharing your experience with our Beginners Intensive Course. It's fantastic to hear that the session was time well spent and that you're now confidently stepping away from Auto mode. Aga has a knack for making complex concepts accessible, and I'm glad you found the balance of theory and practice to be just right. Keep capturing the world through your lens, and we can't wait to welcome you back for the Intermediate course. Here's to thousands more manual masterpieces! - Aspasia M1 contributionThe Best Photography Beginner CourseI decided to enroll in the Level 1 Intensive Beginner Course here as I am going to India and wanted to learn more about how to use my DSLR camera. It turned out to be the best choice I made this year. The tutor, Aga, was amazing—very friendly, experienced, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. I will definitely go back to take the Level 2 course.Hi Aspasia, Thank you for such a glowing review! It's fantastic to hear that the Level 1 Intensive Beginner Course has been a highlight for you this year. Aga will be thrilled to know her guidance was so valuable. - Ellewhy012 contributionsHighly recommendI did the intensive beginners course. Really useful, clear course. Will be taking many more and hopefully much better photos - and no longer on the auto mode! Helpful, patient (I struggled) and friendly instructor. Small group of 4 of us meant that we all got lots of attention. Highly recommend, when I have practised what I learnt on the course I would definitely go back to do something more advanced.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten November 16, 2023
- RHooley4 contributionsIntensive Beginners photography courseI did the intensive beginners course, 6 hours. Octavia was fantastic, she explained things clearly and was extremely patient. There was so much hands on and she was always there advising, checking and showing us where to find things on our camera. I learnt to much that I had misunderstood previously. I really liked the small size group as it gave plenty of time to talk with the instructor when things didn’t go quite as I thought they would. It was a good balance of activities with theory and short breaks , so it never became too much to absorb. I highly recommend attending one of their courses, I can’t wait to get out and practice and take another course. It was very well priced and the right amount of information for this level.Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten February 18, 2024

I found the DSLR course I attended last week to be excellent. After floundering around with my camera on Auto for the last ten years I decided it was time to take a course to get me back on track and off ‘Auto setting’. I feel confident to now use the camera on the manual setting, and also feel confident to experiment with the settings, and work on my skills.
The course tutor Roland was patient and helpful, and very generous with his knowledge of photography.
I highly recommend the course to anyone wishing to enjoy the full aspects of their camera and not just set on Auto!!!
Thank you Roland

My fiancee and I booked the travel photography class with Roland for March this year and unfortunately we had to reschedule due to COVID. Firstly, Roland was really accommodating in rearranging the date and he ended up meeting us on a new weekend in October where we were the only two people booked on.
The day itself was fantastic. We were both newbies with our DSLRs and were very much stuck on 'auto' setting mode. The class was so informative and we both felt that we learnt a huge amount and it's really made us excited to get out and start using our cameras more now that we're confident on being able to use fully manual settings.
Roland was such a friendly chap and tailored the course to talk about how to take photos on some of the trips we told him that we had planned. This made the session felt really personal and the day flew by. It was a great mix of learning theory and then applying it in practice. Getting to visit a few locations in London to try out different techniques was also fantastic.
I'd highly recommend booking one of these courses for anyone interested in learning how to use their cameras properly. It was clear how passionate Roland was and he sent us over a really useful PDF for us to use after the session containing all of the info he had taught on the day.
5 stars, an absolutely cracking day!

Finally after years of playing about on my camera, reading magazines, looking on you tube etc trying to get my head around Manual settings..this is the course that has helped it all become clear. I wish I had done this course years ago. Great step by step explanations, good slides and reading material and great exercises so you can practice what you learn with lots of support. Roland was kind, patient and enthusiastic and was able to explain things clearly and at the right level of detail. Don't give it any more thought - just go. I will be singing up for the Intermediate Course in the future

My wife found this beginners course for me after I had gone for years just using the “auto” setting on my camera.
Although I didn’t have the latest kit, I was amazed at what my camera and lens was able to achieve. The course is run in very small groups (4 in mine) and so is virtually 1-1 tuition.
Roland took us through the basics at exactly the right pace for me. The knowledge I gained from just one days coaching has relighted my interest in using my camera and it’s now in my hands to go out and implement the hints and tips I have picked up.
I now appreciate how shutter speed, aperture and ISO work together and with autofocus and burst settings allow you to capture the most fantastic pictures.
I’m still definitely a beginner but I’m armed with so much more knowledge now to improve my pictures.
Roland is a great teacher, very patient and extremely knowledgeable. Would highly recommend the beginners course.

Hi Chris!
Thank you for posting a review of the Intensive course!
I am glad you enjoyed it and go so much out of it.
The group was fantastic, I think we all had a great time,
it was a bit cold outside when we practised but the sunset and golden hour light was such a bonus!
I hope that the exercise with exploding balloons and creating silhouettes will stay in your memory, and you will be able to reuse it sometime in the future.
If you have any questions or would like some feedback on pics - please feel free to get in touch.
With best regards,
Roland

I feel much more confident in my photography skills now and would highly recommend the course to anyone looking to hone their own photography skills.
Thanks again.

Bought a mirrorless camera 18 months ago, delighted with results, but somewhat frustrated by automatic settings so took with DSLR Photographic to unlock the latent potential. The course delivered beyond expectations and rekindled my interest and appetite for photography. Delighted.

I recently attended a beginners course with DSLR and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is apprehensive about the technical nature of modern cameras and photography. The course was run by Aga who is very knowledgeable with a wealth of interesting experience, but more importantly she was able to explain and pass on her knowledge in a way that made it easy to grasp. I will certainly consider more advanced cources the future.

I loved joining the Travel Photography course taken by Rob - in spite of a damp and cold day we all had the best time and learnt a lot with loads of tips. I feel more confident about being able to take more interesting shots. It was really worthwhile doing the course and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Hi,
I was just wondering if once you complete the course do you get a certificate stating that you've completed the course?
Written February 11, 2017
Hi, yes, you can receive Certificate of Completion that is signed by the tutor. It looks very professional and is printed on high-quality paper in case you'd like to frame it. You can mention it on your CV or LinkedIn profile, but I hope you understand that this is not the same as a degree from a college or uni. Our courses are one day long.
Hope it helps, if you have any more questions please email us or just call the studio on 020 8947 8118.
Best wishes, Roland

I am planning to travel for few months and decided to buy sony a6000.. I saw you have one course for beginners and another one for beginners/ travel photography. As a complete beginner do you think I could go straight to travel photography? Awaiting for your reply, thank you!
Written June 12, 2016
Hi Ruta,
Thank you for emailing and your interest in DSLR Photography Courses.
Yes, you can sign up for the Travel Photography course.
In general, we have three courses for beginners and amateur photographers, two studio based and one outdoor.
The studio based are:
Beginners DSLR Half Day (10.00am-2.00pm) £75
Intensive DSLR Full Day (10.00am-5.00pm) £125
The Intensive Course is very comprehensive and our most popular.
The first part of the Intensive course covers pretty much the same content that we do on the half day Beginners DSLR - all the technical aspects of photography and how to use a camera in fully manual mode (the aperture, f-stop sequence, shutter speeds, ISO, metering and focusing).
From 2.00pm to 5.00pm, we look at more "intermediate" topics, problems in low light conditions, lenses and their use, composition and troubleshooting.
But what's really important - on the Intensive course we do a lot more of practical exercises, we look at composition, and try some major creative techniques.
We take pictures of 'exploding' water balloons using fast shutter speeds to freeze the movement (use in sport and action photography) and slow shutter speeds to 'paint' with light.
For the aperture - how to use a shallow depth of field to blur the background in portraits or have everything sharp when photographing landscapes.
All of our courses have a maximum of 7-8 attendees and you will be able to practice in our studio and a nearby park.
The outdoor course is called - The Art of Travel Photography.
It is very similar to Beginners and Intensive, we cover all the important aspects of photography and how to take pictures in manual mode (M), but I think it is a bit less technical and more practical than the other two.
In the Travel course, we've included a visit to the park (nature and flowers photography), market and street photography, portraits, a walk along the Thames/Embankment and taking pictures of landscapes, as well as city centre and architecture.
It is a full day course from 10am to 5pm, and the cost is £125.
For more details, upcoming dates and current availability please visit our website.
Hope it helps,
if you have any more questions about our courses, how to book or submit payment, please get in touch by email or call our studio on 020 8947 8118.
Best wishes,
Roland
