Neighborhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighborhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Friendly staff no queues worth the money
I have never felt the need to review an attraction before, but the Shard was really remarkable. If it’s your first time in London this should be first on your to do list. You can see everything! It wasn’t busy, we got what felt like a private vip tour with Michael who was fantastic. There is no time limit. My wife was quite nervous but from the moment we walked into the building all the staff made us feel welcomed and explained every step. They all seemed happy to be there. It’s always reassuring when you see the staff getting on and are friends. I didn’t catch their names but the bar staff were helpful and made us laugh. One of the other staff, Rachel took the time to talk to us about theatre shows and gave us some brilliant westend recommendations. We’re now going to take our teenage daughter to see six. We didn’t have to queue for anything - which is rare in London during august. Quite often I find other tourist attractions can feel rushed and we are just another customer to spend money. It was amazing to go somewhere as famous as the shard to feel like people actually cared about us and wanted us to enjoy ourselves. We definitely got our money worth. An experience I will always remember. Big thanks to the whole team.
Thank you for your great review of The View from The Shard and our fantastic team! We'll be sure to pass this feedback on and hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

    Unique and awe- inspiring
Our visit to the viewing platforms was a birthday treat, and luckily we picked a very fine day. The experience is amazing, the views awesome and you are so high up everything below looks like it’s in a model of London. The trains going in and out of London Bridge, particularly reminded us of a train set! Pretty awe-inspiring views. Service at the cocktail bar was very, very good, even though drinks are a tad expensive. However, this is a unique place to have a cocktail or a glass of champagne! All the staff were very friendly and engaging, so this was a very special event.
Thank you for your great review of The View from The Shard and our fantastic team! We'll be sure to pass this feedback on and hope to welcome you back again soon. Wishing you a belated happy birthday! Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

    Excellent experience
Myself and my wife loved our visit. We prebooked for 12.00 and arrived to a long queue but was handled really well - from moving through the line, into the lifts and up was like a really well oiled machine. Guides were great! Views superb as you'd imagine. London is brilliant at street level but the views from floor 72 of the Shard are so cool. Definitely worth a visit.
Thank you so much for your great review of The View from The Shard! We are so glad that you enjoyed our stunning views across London and entertaining guides. We hope to welcome you back soon! Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

    Brilliant London Expert, Michael Mellor
We had travelled by coach and went in as independent visitors. The experience was greatly improved by the attention we received from Michael Mellor. He is a London guide employed there. What an amazing man! How funny and informative can one person be? He had us both in fits of laughter followed by our open mouth attention as he told stories of London! He followed us round, guided us to see certain sights and even accompanied us to the shop at the end of our visit. Bless him - he was our guardian angel ( well it was high up so maybe he could fly???) Just the sort of person we find particularly entertaining and full of knowledge. We are still raving about our visit. We are two ladies in our retirement years. What a great time - he is an asset to the SHARD.
Thank you for your great review of The View from The Shard and our fantastic London Expert, Michael! We'll be sure to pass this feedback on and hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

Lovely visit, but everything’s a bit over priced.
We went as a family of four, plus Grandma, on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t very busy so there was no queue at all, and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. At the top it’s very spacious but on the very top floor there are no seats at all (and you’ll be pounced on if you try and sit on the floor) but after a while a lovely security guard approached and asked if Grandma would like a chair, which really helped a lot. We were able to move it around to get in all the views and she was able to keep it as long as she needed it, we were very grateful. Views obviously great, there was a guide explaining things to people but he was always surrounded so we didn’t get a chance to talk to him. The cheapest alcoholic bubbly is champagne at £75 a bottle which is crazy for a toast so we went with soft drinks and beer which is much more reasonable. We were there for over an hour and then enjoyed the gift shop, they have some nice themed gifts although more things could be Shard shaped! The photo package is very expensive at £25 for (in our case) 2 poses but with 3 different backgrounds, but it’s a nice souvenir. I always think there should be an option to just buy the photo digitally, as it was they had them printed and in the book ready to persuade us. Overall a nice trip out, for all ages.
Thank you for taking the time to review your experience of The View from The Shard. We're pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and your feedback has been noted. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

First time up the Shard 🙄🙄🙄
Had the most amazing time, 1st time we have visited. Went to floor 72, then floor 69 for wine at 15.30pm. Met Michael Mellor, he was the London expert. What a great man, laughed and laughed at his stories they were just fabulous and we were thoughly entertained......infact we never left until it was dark! Singer was fabulous as well. I have to say though, when you are 69 floors up why have blinds on the toiket windows 🤣🤣🤣 Great experience, great staff

    Amazing View
My wife has always wanted to go to the top of The Shard, and have a glass of champagne, so whilst in London we decided to book the tickets. We were pleasantly surprised, when we arrived, to go straight to the lifts as there wasn't a queue. The 360 views from the top were amazing, and as it was a lovely clear sunny day we were able to see for miles. The staff were very welcoming, and helpful, and the food was reasonably priced. Would recommend a visit here when in London.

    Great afternoon tea
Live music, tasty finger sandwiches, delicious desserts, and a fantastic view. Special thank you to Freddy for the excellent service. My first time in London. I would definitely recommend the Shard for afternoon tea!
Thank you for the lovely feedback left for one of our neighbours. Next time you visit the Shard, why not visit our viewing gallery on Level 72, the highest point you can go in the building with stunning views across London! We also have a wonderful menu with creative and delicious cocktails to choose from. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Guest Experience Team

    Fantastic time
It was a suprise for my 6 year old who has been learning about London at school. He was absolutely enthralled with the whole experience. We spent 1.5 hours up there with Jasper happily moving from the viewing gallery up to the platform and back. Howard was an excellent host who took the time to explain history and geography to Jasper with what he was seeing. Totally worth the money in my opinion. My cocktail was also amazing! Thank you.
Thank you so much for your lovely review of The View from The Shard and our wonderful London Expert Howard. We hope to welcome you and Jasper back again soon for more stories at the top! Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

Top date night at the top of London
Fantastic date night experience. Being a Londoner for a few years now I'd been up a few times in the day during peak season. This time was different. No queues and crowds on a Friday night made us feel like it was our own special thing. We rode up and down in the elevators alone and enjoyed the live singer and extra special attention from the team working there. The views were spectacular as always but actually even better at night somehow. The cocktails were really great too. Special mention to Linda, Jhudel and Daisy for taking care of us.
Thank you so much for your lovely review of The View from The Shard and our wonderful team! We agree that the night views are truly spectacular and are so pleased that you had a great time with us. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Guest Experience Team

Having visited a lot of cities and their viewing platforms I thought it was about time I visited one in my own country!!

This is by far the most expensive viewing platform I've ever been to! Now I paid £32 for my entry ticket, I could've gone in cheaper if I booked in advance (£25 I believe?) But seeing as I was only in London for two days and I live a three hour train journey away I was only going to visit if the weather was good. There is a bad weather option ticket at a higher price but for me trips to London are very few and far between, so this wasn't a good option.

I visited mid afternoon on a saturday and it only took 10-15mins to get to the 72nd floor after buying my ticket so the £10 fast track ticket wouldn'tve been needed.

Once at the top the uninterrupted panoramic views are exceptional! I stayed for around two hours until dusk so I could take some different photos, during this time I went to buy myself a drink but when I saw the prices I changed my mind!!

So with this review I'm kinda torn, amazing views but very pricey including the bar. For a family this would be a very expensive hour or two, but then there's nowhere else in London that you would get these city views!!

We used Tesco vouchers to get a Premium ticket for this to lower the cost and ensure we got enough time up there. Actually getting into the building was complicated but after some basic airport style security checks, we were in the lifts ( one to floor 33 then a transfer to lift 2). These are very quick and forceful. The view that greets you as you come out is spectacular, even in the not so ideal weather we experienced at the time. A few stairs to floor 69 follow. The height of the observatory allows you to see all over London, a unique feature of the many viewing levels here. Some recognisable landmarks were St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the London Eye and Tower Bridge. The outdoor deck shows you how high you are, a the wind and cold are noticeable. It is actually interesting to look up to the remaining structure above this level. The views from here are pretty much the same. We did not feel like doing the VR slide. The cake slice I had on the indoor was delicious, but I couldn't eat too much of it. I would spend abut an hour, two pushing it if you want to appreciate the view. The only negative of our visit was me being disorientated by the lifts so much I had to sit down for five minutes at the bottom, but I know that's not the fault of the place itself so I don't hold it against them at all. It is actually my favourite observatory we've been to. Even though it is expensive without the help of Tesco vouchers, overall, a fantastic place you should definitely visit, despite people saying the Sky Garden is better (can't speak from experience though).

Way too many people were admitted to feel safe.

The queue to enter the building was very long and people were almost standing on top of each other. There was then a queue to go through the airport scanners; an understandable security need, however, it was very slow to make our way to the front and no social distancing. Although we had a 2pm slot and arrived at the entrance queue at 1.40pm, we did not get to the viewing gallery until 2.35pm

On floor 72 the number of people was just silly. No way to keep 1m apart and quite a few people were taking their masks off for photos and then not putting them back on. No members of staff we advising people to put the masks back on.

We had intended on voicing our concerns to the manager when we returned to gift shop/exit, however as we approached him another visitor beat us to it. Unfortunately, his answers were very condescending and brushed off the concerns. According to him, it is up to people to decide where they queue before entering and The Shard give visitors the choice to wear a mask or not (which as far as I am aware not government guidance).

My only other point would be on the rule of diminishing returns... once you get past a certain height you view only looks further down and gets less impressive. The Shard is pretty expensive if you pay full price. The Sky Garden and the London Eye give very good aerial views for less money.

There are other cheaper places to enjoy the views of London (try the Tate Modern, for example), but this is the higher perspective you'll get, as the Shard is the tallest building in the city. You'll stay at around 240m from the ground, and the experience is set along six floors, some of them with bars where you can taste a nice champagne (for example) while watching the sunset.
Shame it's so expensive, but I guess it's the price you pay for not being overcrowded, as so many other things in London.

Wow, what a view!
We took advantage of the 50% discount on entry tickets and spent an hour wandering amongst the clouds.
The views from The Shard on a clear day are spectacular! We could see far in each direction and there are helpful viewing notes pointing out key landmarks on each side of the attraction.
You will need to go through security and two lifts to access the lowest viewing platform, from there you can climb to higher floors via an internal staircase.
There is a bar and drinks aren't cheap but it is a lovely place to sit and admire the views.

Very efficient service getting through security and the entrance barrier. A fast efficient lift soon gets you to the lower viewing platform. With a bar at the top, you can enjoy the views with a drink, although you are paying city centre tourist prices!
Although you book an entrance time slot, there is no rush to leave,
The top platform is quite open to the elements, worth considering in colder weather.

My husband and I first went up the Shard before Christmas as a treat as we were in London for an unexpected week's holiday (we live 100 miles away). We paid extra for tickets that meant that we could go up in the morning and again return the same day in the evening to see London by night. We looked to see if there were any seats but there were hardly any seats at all. When we returned in the evening as there was a cocktail included in the price we looked for a seat again but there were no seats vacant so we couldn't sit down and enjoy the view with our cocktails as we had to remain standing. The second time was in late January when we were again in London to attend the National Television Awards. As it was our 30th anniversary we decided to again purchase the same tickets to go up in the morning and again in the evening. No seats vacant again in the morning and we waited for an hour in the evening before we had a beautiful glass of champagne (the first we'd ever had) hoping to find some seats. No such luck. We had again to stand and look at the view with our champagne standing up. All the seats were taken up with youngsters who were on social media on their phones and not even looking at the view at all! We were deeply disappointed and probably won't have another opportunity to visit again but wish there were more seats or at least making sure that the seats aren't being taken up all night by thoughtless people with no drinks who don't really appreciate the experience.
After saying that, we enjoyed it very much but maybe lots of others also find this to be an annoyance. We were told later that there are 6 bars and restaurants on different levels in the Shard but I wonder how many other visitors to London know that?

Hello, thank you so much for your review I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit! I'm really sorry to hear about your annoyance regarding our seating arrangement. We are looking into this currently and trying to find a solution that is beneficial to all our customers. Regarding bar and restaurant awareness there is a map on level 68 of the Shard which highlights what is on each level :) Thanks again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon! Have a lovely day.

we were here with family on 25th February 2020, the lift is so fast , it does 48 floors in around 7 seconds , then you come out & get in another lift for a few more floors, after this you walk up 2 floors of steps, we could see as far as Wembley stadium ,which is around 45mins in underground tube, the shard is located around train station. in order to go to it you have to walk through the train station.
we bought tickets from hop on hop off tour bus stewards but you still pay an additional £1 in the Shard. I think it's better than the London Eye.

An hour and a quarter wait - in a dreary underpass,

The view is great but if you go, choose an absolutely crystal clear day.

Also if you want to spend the money to make it an enjoyable event pay for the fast track.

The queuing is absolutely hopeless and tiring and drains any enjoyment out of your visit. After an hour and a quarter of periodically having a chirpy chap saying hands up if you have a quarter past two booking and then eventually the lifts are almost in sight they have the audacity to tell you to smile so that they can take a photo of you with the hope that they can fleece some money out of you once you finally get out.

The bar is swanky looking enough but the experience is brought down to earth by the slightly tacky cramped seating conditions (and cost).

Best bit - going to the loos. Recommendation save your money and go to the Tate viewing point and buy a bottle of Moet each (!) for the same cost!

Visited yesterday, purchased the All Inclusive tickets before arrival, straight off the train at London Bridge and a 2 minute walk to the entrance, straight through security, beat the queues, pocket guides included, up via 2 lifts and a glass of moet each. Moet was £16 a glass for the rose' and £6.50 a beer (bottle). Great views from floor 68 and 72, never felt rushed. View from toilets was amazing!

Came back down and got our 3 photos and purchased photo album (£23), other photos were emailed to us for free.

Very well arranged, a great day out. Would definitely go again.
