The area
Neighborhood: St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
How to get there

Interesting gallery

Sits in an interesting contemporary building in St.James area. Nice pieces of artwork and pricy given the location. Recommended.

Buying a Painting From Across the Pond!
Aug 2019
I wish I was able to give Stern Pissarro more than just five stars because my recent experience purchasing a painting from this Gallery was simply extraordinary! Looking for a painting by a particular artist, an internet search showed Stern Pissarro had exactly what I was looking for, but they're in London and I'm in New York, and the thought of buying a painting without first seeing it in person initially seemed like sheer lunacy to me. I nevertheless contacted the Gallery, and they immediately understood my concern about the accuracy of the color images I was seeing online, and, in additon to numerous high resolution photos, sent me a video, and then arranged a Skype session where I could view the painting and could see the colors and was thus able to confirm that it was what I had been searching for! (And, for peace of mind, they assured me that if the painting was not what I thought once it arrived in the States, or if, for any reason whatsoever, I wasn't satisfied, I could simply send it back for a full refund!). As people who know me can attest, I'm not an easy person to please, and in the course of a week and a half, I must have had thirty or forty emails back and forth with the Gallery, asking them so many questions I wondered how they had time for any other customer, but every query received a prompt, thorough and professional response. Once I made the leap and decided to purchase the painting, they made the process of paying for the painting and shipping it to New York -- which could easily have been a stressful and anxious experience -- as simple as going to the corner grocery to buy a loaf of bread! And then, I threw them a real curve ball -- I changed the delivery address while the painting was in transit. It could have been very easy for them to tell me that it wasn't possible to change the delivery instructions once the painting was over the Atlantic, but they didn't flinch and worked tirelessly with the shipping company to change the delivery address and somehow, incredibly, got the painting to the new address on the originally promised delivery date! And while I believe they use a third party shipper, I've got to compliment them on their choice of vendor, because the crate holding the painting was itself a work of art, and held and protected the painting so well I'm sure it could have been dropped from the plane to my apartment and would have landed in tact. And the best part of the story, I'm in love with the painting, and really appreciate everyone at Stern Pissarro working so hard to make it happen. So, if you see something at the Gallery, either in person or online, that you like, I can assure you that you can purchase it with full confidence and peace of mind that you're dealing with professionals who know what they're doing and who will treat you fairly and with respect, and, most importantly, who want you to be satisfied even more than they want to make another sale. I recommend Stern Pissarro wholeheartedly and without reservation!

Several generations of Pissarros - and much more besides
Mar 2017 • Solo
This has to be one of my favourite commercial art galleries in London. It is set in a modernistic building half way down St. James' Street which is interesting in its own right. Inside, but now primarily in the basement, are paintings not just by Camille, but a number of his sons Felix, Georges, Lucien and Paulemile; then Lucien's daughter Orovida, Paulemile's son H. Claude; H. Claude's son Yvon and daughter Lela, suggesting there is something artistic in the Pissarro genes in the same way Bach in Germany became synonymous with musician as the Bach family spawned so many musicians across multiple generations. But there is more besides, a recent exhibition testifying to the owner's diversification into twentieth century modernism with works by Miro and Chagall amongst many others including an extraordinary early Magritte from c 1930 resembling a stylised Art Deco scene. Inspiring and educating all at once.

Walk through the door and see breath-taking works of art!

I am smitten by the major artists and very much enjoy talking to the owners and staff about the history and origin of the exceptional works, which are carefully displayed to make me ponder and discover the art.

The Gallery proudly focuses on Camille Pissarro and his descendants. Many, many other significant impressionists, contemporary, and modern artists also hang on the walls of this intimate space. Gallery owners David Stern and Lelia Pissarro are masters at enriching my experience and I am grateful for that they share their expertise.

We've made multiple trips and multiple aquistions from The Stern Pissarro Gallery and we are delighted with each piece!

Very impressive art works displayed tastefully in Stern Pissarro Gallery
Jul 2016 • Solo
I visited this gallery to view a collection of paintings and works by the renowned artist Marc Chagall and the display of these items - which were for sale - was done very impressively with relevant captions close to each piece with friendly and well informed staff available.

Very pleasant gallery

A small and intimate gallery selling works by the Pissaro family. I have to say some of the lesser known family members work is excellent and at a reasonable price.
Very pleasant people working there - very approachable.
