Neighborhood: Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.

They have to change job, they have not the skills to deal with public.
When I get in was only 2 p.m. really few customers but the toilet was already totally bad smelling.
When I asked for a Guinness a young lady start to prepare it and and placed in front of me the Credit Card machine, my card that day was not working so I give her a banknote she doesn't accepted my money and called the manager or maybe the owner, who said in a total unfriendly way that they doesn't accept cash and that I had to go away. I never felt myself so humiliated in my whole life. I checked out of the door if there was some warning advising that cash wasn't allowed inside but there wasn't. I'm gone there following the Google Search for a Gay Pub, they don't deserve to be listed in this way and don't deserve to receive money from LGBTQIA+ Community's Customers.
Please Google change your listing cause this is harassing people!

Having enjoyed a visit to the Tate and riverside walk my friend and I decided pub visit for food and pint ideal. Google led us to The Thirsty Bear. A football spit n sawdust style pub. I asked if the fish was a good size and told it was. £17 for fish n chips with mushy peas each ordered by us both. When it arrived a great visual disappointment of burnt batter with little fish content. Chips great! Mushy peas cold in a thimble sized paper “cup”. Tesco sell 4 x 100g frozen oven battered cod for £4.50. To offer this 1 x 30-40g offering would be 50p of that pack. So that makes this very poor value. I would have complained but my friend dislikes “a scene”. We did both agree beer, chips and as a pub good, but food a rip-off and poor. They should be embarrassed by this.

Absolutely ruined by a guy who claimed he was “undercover” - bar staff encouraged him by serving him drinks at reduced prices. I would literally never go here again solely down to how uncomfortable this man made me feel and the fact that he’s a regular. The friends I was with would never return either. There’s being a “local” (which btw I am) and then there is being an absolute misogynist and someone looking for a fight. Will never return and the staff need to sort out their priorities.

We should not support establishments that support people who: a) encroach on personal space; b) interrupt conversations they were not invited to be a party to; c) provide their unasked for, aggressive and sexist opinion; and d) will not leave when you politely ask them to (multiple times).

FYI none of the machines work either and as an aside I think this is the only bad review I have ever left and it is literally to warn people (and particularly women) to stay away.

Hi Sally, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I would like to assure you that we do not support or condone any of the sorts of behaviour that you describe. Since your visit we have barred an individual, for similar behaviour, who we believe is likely to be the person mentioned in your review. It is not behaviour we will tolerate in any manner. I'm sorry you did not feel that you could seek help from the bar staff on your visit. I would fully encourage you to do so if you ever have a similar experience in the future either at our venue or any venue. Our staff are all trained to assist our guests in any situation that they feel uncomfortable and we have reiterated the importance of this off the back of your review. If you would like to contact us to clarify any details and/or to try to confirm if the individual we have barred is the same person who made you feel uncomfortable on your visit please free to contact us on manager@thethirstybear.com. Thanks, Phil

Sticky tables, crisp packets, and tobacco on table discarded by previous customers even though pub had not long opened. Disorganised, they didn't seem to know where lights were located. Half decorated. Not particularly friendly and definitely a younger person's pub....although I did enjoy some of the music....which was obviously the barman's personal choice. Beer was OK, although as one of the first punters, why didn't I get my pint in a Beavertown glass

Came here for a friend's birthday. It was a mistake. The pub has strange screens sticking out of each table which, I guess, used to be the remote ordering system. Now they're not functional and there are broken pint pulling systems at the end of each table. The staff were not particularly friendly and looked fed up when they had to change the barrels to serve the drinks we ordered. The bathrooms are in an awful state. The floors are black at the edges, the toilets didn't flush properly and the stench was terrible. Didn't make us want to stay for food. There are many other places that deserve your time and money.

I was there on Saturday with a friend for about an hour. As a local resident I have been going to this pub for over three years and it used to be a lovely place but unfortunately it changes it's staff faster than it changes it's toilet paper and the new management and security are dreadful.
The 'bouncer' shouted at me, threatened me for no reason other than the fact that we used to be friends and no longer are. He forced me outside without my coat or handbag where I waited for half an hour until finally my friends convinced the manager to come out and I was given back my stuff. I was frozen, the manager said and did nothing.
I am disgusted that such behaviour is allowed in an establishment in central London.
Disgusted!!!

Please for the love of God and the sake of humanity avoid ordering the food at this place. The burger was so bad it has scarred me for life and I will have recurring nightmares about the horrible crime against humanity they call a burger. They have ruined burgers for me.
You are better off scavenging from the local trash can.

Atrocious customer service, never go! Party of 10 of us booked >2 weeks in advance for a table at 7.30pm for dinner. Turned up and they forced us to sit in a line looking at a wall. How can you expect to eat dinner with friends when you have 40cm for your plate and then a wall to face. Their excuse "We don't reserve you a table, only a space". Decided to leave and they wanted to charge us for 2 drinks that we'd started pouring but never drank. Took three of us 45 minutes arguing with their two managers to finally get them to waive £8.28.

Luckily there is a Nandos round the corner so you can always be satisfied with some cheekay wings and a beer.

Novelty idea and decent food but the service at this place means that I will never be returning here. It starts from a poorly laid out pub with staff that don't know where your reserved table is to sickly smelling glasses left on the table and ends with pub management that is rude and borderline offensive in the way that they speak to customers.

I've been twice thinking that the 1st was a one off but as they say, fool me twice...shame on me.

Do your self a favour and don't subject yourself to this place until they figure out what customer service is really about.

I am terribly sorry that you had such a bad experience with us back in October. We recognise that there were some service issues on this occasion and this is not acceptable and we have stepped up the monitoring on this front. We really hope that you come back and try us again and once again our sincere apologies.

Made an online booking request to reserve a table for a birthday party, received confirmation email that a member of staff would be in contact..... no response......

I followed up with a phone call and was advised by the person on the end of the phone that they had just opened up, they didn't have time to access the bookings and that the Manager would be in contact..... still no response...

I can't advise on food, ambiance, ale, etc. as I have never visited the Thirsty Bear (I have been informed it is good). However, customer service based on first impressions not the best ;-(

I am sorry you had a bad experience with service. From the date of your posting, I can say that we were having some difficulties with staff at that point and I have taken your comments onboard. We have overhauled our processes and have a new team in place so I really hope that you will give us another try
