Thank you for your five star review of your visit to Eltham Palace, it's great to hear. You would love the gardens in late spring when they are full of cherry blossom.

Visited on Monday 11th October 2021. Initially found the local signage out of date as it indicates there is on-site free parking which when you do park you establish that this has changed even if the signage hasn't. Either way, once inside we found the grounds absolutely wonderfully landscaped and TBH the best aspect of the site. Once inside the building, we found the main buildings less a palace than a 1930's Art Deco house, but the gardens were lovely and the tea room brilliant. On the day we visited the weather was beautiful and it made a difference. The "Palace" aspect is the great hall and though this is interesting in itself, I suggest any visitors adjust their expectations and go in with their eyes open as to what to expect.

Thank you so much for your interesting review of Eltham Palace. You are correct in saying that the building is part royal palace, the childhood home of Henry VIII and part luxury 1930's home of Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. At it's peak the Palace of Eltham could house all eight hundred members of the court and was second only in importance to Westminster.

I attended Enchanted Eltham this evening with my husband and our 3 little ones, we had a slight mix up with our tickets at first which was totally our fault, but the staff were so understanding and accommodating which we really appreciated. The lighting throughout the grounds were beautiful, plenty of wonderful photo opportunities. The hot drinks, marshmallows and rides at the end of our walk were a real treat especially for the kids who really enjoyed the evening. I would recommend a visit for the family and we will definitely be attending next year. Thank you to the staff for making it a pleasurable experience.

Thank you so much for your 'sparkling review' of your visit to our Enchanted Eltham light show. It has been a great success so we would like to take this opportunity to thank the English Heritage Events team and the staff and volunteers at Eltham Palace who have worked so hard to make it happen in these difficult times.

Visits to Enchanted Eltham have become a family tradition. The Christmas light display brings a sense of wonder to children and adults alike, and the walk around the gardens is not too long for children. Mulled wine and other drinks are available, and children will not doubt enjoy roasting a big marshmallow on the fire. Although there were fewer activities than in the past due to Covid restrictions, we had a delightful evening.

My husband and I visited to see the Christmas lights - we easily found parking on a street about a 5 minute walk. Despite living quite close to Eltham Palace we'd never been before but will be returning during daylight to see more - the Palace looked beautiful from the outside. The grounds are lovely, the lights festive and the route well organised. The staff we spoke to were all friendly. We had a coffee to walk around with at a very reasonable £2.40 each. The gift shop at the end had nice things in and also reasonably priced. We paid £16 each and enjoyed it.

After booking our visit to the Enchanted Eltham Palace evening, we arrived to a very warm welcome from all the volunteers.

Walking around the grounds - not having visited before - the music and light show was indeed magical. It is One-Way system and for those less-able there is a purpose built walk way made of rubber. Throughout the route there are strategically placed frames so you can either take a photo of the view or do a selfie behind it. A lovely volunteer took our photo so I took one of her😉

In order that you don’t wander around the grounds there are barriers in the form of stakes and tape. Unfortunately my friend was so enchanted by the magic of it all, she fell into the sunken garden! Quite a feat especially as she was taking a photo at the time while trying to learn how to fly! I didn’t see her do it but she ended up on her butt with scrapes to both hands, face, hip and a bit lip. Quite shaken up, having managed to get her up after convincing the now getting larger crowd to go, we sat down with a volunteer who convinced her to see the First Aider. The stakes and tape came in handy as we were guided via the shortest distance back to the coffee shop. The volunteers couldn’t have been more helpful.

After recovering we were allowed back via the shortest route to continue out visit.

Food and drink in the form of snacks were available at the entrance; as are the toilets. For those with little ones there are amusements in the form of a Ferris Wheel and Merry Go Round.

English Heritage are doing deals if you are interested in taking out a yearly subscription which is actually quite good however no one knew if you received a refund or extra months if the country goes back into Lockdown so we opted to leave it.

All in all it was a really good evening and if they do it again, I’ll be going back. 10/10 to those who created it and to the volunteers who helped make our night: Sue, Pete, Simon and the little Lady in the photo 😉👏🏻👏🏻

Covid-19 regs were observed throughout.

We're sorry to hear about the minor accident but pleased that you were taken good care of and your party were able to continue with your visit. My family and I went to Eltham
Palace light display on 11.12.21 to get into the Christmas spirit whilst being on an outside event. It was the first ever event of this nature that we had tried. Firstly there was nowhere to park. We bought a mulled wine that was barely warm and for £3.95 for three sips was a bit expensive . There was marsh mallow toasting on the route, again at extra costs. We did the light walk and some parts were very pretty, but overall mediocre. We were looking forward to a hot dog or burger at the end. We spent 15 minutes in the food queue only to be told they had run out of food. Eltham Palace is a beautiful place but we would not attend the light display again.

Dear Caroline, Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to the Enchanted Eltham light show. We're sorry it didn't meet your expectations and we have taken on board your feedback. The tickets are competitively priced and have sold tremendously well so far and we have received lots of positive feedback. The food and drinks are sold separately so that you have the option whether to purchase them and of course, all the money we receive contributes to preserving and maintaining over four hundred English Heritage properties that are open to the public. It's been a difficult couple of years for the heritage sector so we would like to thank you for your support.

Our 2nd visit, the last was 4 years ago and we absolutely love it, A fascinating look at life as it was then. But beware if visiting in winter if you want to visit the cafeteria in the orchid house,. It's bitterly cold in there even sitting with coats on. I imagine it would be lovely in summer but at this time of year, they should heat it. We cut our visit short and didn't eat, as planned ,just had a quick drink and was glad to get in the car.

Love Eltham Palace, shame about the Ghost Tour. Instructions said to wrap up warmly and bring a torch as the tour was outside. It turned out to be entirely inside, though, so everyone was sweltering in coats and hats, in enclosed spaces. The prospect of Covid turned out to be the most frightening thing about this tour. It was run by three actors who all told very long, made up stories that had nothing to do with Eltham Palace; one of them was set in Ireland. Being in the dark in the great hall was fantastic, but nothing spooky about this ghost tour, sadly. It’s noted as one of English Heritage’s most haunted buildings so surely there were much better stories to be told?

Thank you for taking the time to review the ghost tours at Eltham Palace, we are sorry that they didn't live up to your expectations . The long range weather forecast indicated a cold spell so the decision was made to stay inside, Feedback from the previous year was also taken into account. The light levels in the house were reduced to add to the atmosphere but it would be unsafe to be in total darkness. Perhaps more your style would be our Enchanted Eltham Christmas Lightshow that runs from the 9th to 30th December which is all outside. Booking can be made via the English Heritage website.

We visited Eltham Palace in June and had a lovely time. We booked a time slot which was easy to do but could then spend as long as well liked there.
The house was very interesting to have a look round and was great to see the art deco features. There was a one way route but don't feel it impacted the visit too much as you could still take your time to look at things. There were a few of the smaller rooms which were not possible to go into which was a shame but hopefully in the future will be open again (I don't know if this is a normal thing or was because of Covid)
It was a bit of a grey, dull day but the gardens were lovely to have a walk round and explore and there were some lovely flowers.
We ate at the cafe quite late but there were still some things available. Had some lovely cake! The shop had the usual kind of souvenirs but there was also a plant section where you could buy nice plants and flowers.
Overall it was a well organised, nice easy visit.

Dear Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Eltham Palace, it sounds like you had a great time. Just to let you know that we are no longer required to operate a one way system and all the rooms are now fully open.
