We all love the '90s itv series Goodnight Sweetheart and were thrilled to find that the pub in the series was still around! The interior is not the same (perhaps they used a studio for the show), but the outside was exactly the same! Confusing that there is no mention of it in the pub - not even a picture. Was fun to go to and the selection of drafts was decent for London.

Good food is excellent, the atmosphere is vivid and authentic. The pricing it more than reasonable and the staff is super nice.

A lovely looking pub with great old world charm and a TV history as being the pub in the program Goodnight Sweetheart. The food is on the high side of pricing and unless is was because it was a basic meal did not look very appealing. Not all but a couple of the staff made you feel that they would rather you weren't there while getting things done which was a little off putting but all in all it was still a great place to go.

Four of us visited this pub on a busy Sunday lunchtime, with the bustling flower market on its doorstep. Lovely (and quieter) upstairs dining room. The food was fabulous, both the beef and the pork belly. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout. The drinks were good too. Well worth a visit although given the pub’s popularity it probably pays to pre-book or you could be disappointed.

As a measure of this pub, we stopped off in Colombia Rd because we were doing some photography in the area. The market had finished and the street was in chaos with the street cleaning squad doing their stuff so we went int the Oak for a swift pint and stayed for two (or so).
Friendly place, good beer, couldn't think of a good enough reason to move on.

Such a lovely, warm pub with great food and drink, in one of the most amazing London locations. As someone who lives in London and works in the borough, it is great to have access to such a valuable community asset - despite its popular setting. Most outstanding was the service we received by a lovely New Zealander - who appreciated the make up of our small group and specifically our two young children. She was very aware of what the two children (and we as parents) might need to make our experience enjoyable. From helping us choose a dish to providing appropriate cutlery and allowing them the room to 'stretch their legs', she was so helpful friendly... even when other patrons (an older couple) saw our group and asked for a different table and then declined to stay at the pub when there was no other alternative. Such a shame, because that couple would have seen our children could barely be noticed and just as importantly, they missed out on having a lovely and very cosy afternoon at this Pub.

Well, a very nicely presented former Truman pub, unspoilt and well-maintained inside and out, and well located on the interesting, if possibly over-gentrified, Columbia Road. Attractive island bar and the original Vitrolite ceiling among the nice original features. And our Saturday lunch was really nice ...the best fish and chips I've had for a very long time, with lovely crisp batter and well-cooked skin-on chips, while my wife enjoyed whatever veggie thing it was she ordered. So why only two out of five? To start with, I don't care to be handed a credit card machine when pre-ordering at a pub bar that's set to ask if I want to leave a tip ...this is a pub, not a restaurant and that, in any case, is putting the cart before the horse. And in an East End pub, of all places, I don't expect to have to ask to have a very short pint topped up, either. But the main issue is the strong impression that the place is run for the staff, not their customers. The very noisy kids that were running amok were one of the staffers', all of whom were women ...the atmosphere was of a poorly managed creche, with one of the kids even cycling round the bar at one point, and leaving open the back door on the coldest day of the winter so far, as did the woman who seemed to be the mother. It could so easily have been better, but there's an attitude issue here. Fortunately, this being London rather than the middle of nowhere, there's no shortage of thoroughly good pub experiences to enjoy and compliment on TripAdvisor, so despite a delicious lunch and an attractive venue we don't have a reason to come back.

Our family of 4 including 2 young children aged 7 and 11 really enjoyed this friendly pub and the nice Sunday chicken roast! And try the warm wine, very interesting!

Came here last Sunday for a roast. The pub downstairs is great with a lovely atmosphere. The upstairs room where we had dinner was very noisy, almost deafening, not sure what they can do about that but it's worth bearing in mind. Service excellent, but roast disappointing. Barely warm, a thick cut of beef rather than sliced, and fried, yes fried "roast" potatoes! It's not what we expected given the cost.

Stopped in on our way home deciding to give pubs in the area our business tonight. Great warm atmosphere with a simple, but good, selection of wines. Plenty of beer options too.

We ordered some food which was average. Had better and had worse. Although there must have be a ration on the chips. I think in total we were served 6 each. It's not trendy, it's miserable!!

Would recommend for a couple of drinks and maybe the platter (had it before and was very good). Enjoy.
