Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. - LanSluderBelizeAsheville, North Carolina793 contributionsMartinis at Claridge'sWe needed an excuse to go to the bar at Claridge's and have a few ridiculously expensive drinks. Deciding that a recent wedding anniversary was excuse, we met at the bar one evening in August at the legendary Claridge's Hotel. Yes, the drinks were outrageously expensive –28 pounds and up for martinis and most other drinks, but they were perfectly prepared. The bar snacks, cheeses and oysters and fancy pizzas and so forth, also were not exactly a bargain. We were all seated in a kind of corner table near the main bar. Claridge's of course is not at all fancy. Everything is understated, with heavy emphasis on photographs and momentos of British Royalty. We spent more than we should, by far, but we greatly enjoyed our evening at Claridge's.Dear LanSluderBelize Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for your kind words and recent visit on such a special occasion. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your lovely review of your recent visit to Claridge's Bar. We are delighted to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails as well as our bar snacks although you felt they were not a bargain. - BDBromley, United Kingdom942 contributionsElegant bar with wonderful staff……Booked a table for pre lunch drinks on a Sat afternoon. Glad we did so as it became busy very quickly. Ordered drinks from a lovely Irish waitress who had worked in 5 star Hotels in Ireland where we had been. She was a credit to the Hotel. The bar is elegant - enjoyed the Autumnal decor throughout Claridges and into this area too. Staff are always so helpful and the experience was the perfect start to a fantastic Birthday afternoon. Thank you all.Dear bobinogs1, It has been a pleasure reading your kind review and feedback. It is most kind of you to refer to the helpful service and elegant ambience of the bar. - Kenneth PagesTampa, Florida1,202 contributionsThe hits keep comingWe had drinks and snacks many times during our visit to London and stay at Claridge's. Sometimes it was just Ryne and I and other times with our friends. Each visit was a great time. Drinks are crafted carefully. The snacks just enough not to ruin a main meal or enough to substitute for the main meal. There always seemed to be room to accommodate us - even one night when there were 8 of us (though we did call ahead for that!). Be sure not to miss out during your stay. Also, I thought it was amazing that when ordering a Manhattan they ask for a preference of sweet, dry or perfect. Turns out all the bartender's ask this. Definitely something that needs to cross the Pond.Dear KennethPages, thank you very much for your recent visit to Claridge's Bar and for taking the time to share this review. My wife and I had a lovely Afternoon Tea at Claridge's over the Christmas period so I thought it would be nice to book a table in the bar for some cocktails to celebrate Valentines Day. We arrived but did not know
where the bar was located. We entered the wonderful Fumoir, believing it to be the bar. However we were rapidly hustled out by a member of staff (we did notice reserved signs on the tables even though the web site says reservations are not available in the Fumoir). Subsequently we asked a member of staff and were shown to the Claridge's Bar. We were then shown to our table - not in the beautiful main bar but in an area to the side and rear, which was very dark, dingy and cramped. The cocktail menu was provided - very underwhelming and not one rum cocktail, which I found bizarre.. It was a stark contrast to the elaborate cocktail menu at the Savoy. We chose two cocktails as well as a bottle of water and these were delivered to our table. Distinctly average and not what i would expect of Claridge's. Unfortunately we had been put adjacent to a mirrored door which waiting staff were using continuously with trays of dirty glasses. It was the final straw so paid and left. I don't object to splashing out ÂŁ22 for a cocktail (although ÂŁ7.50 for a bottle of still water is far too expensive) when one is seated in beautiful surroundings, but i do object to being dumped in a dark and dingy side section to the bar. Later on that night we went to another cocktail bar in London which was far better. If I were ever to return to the Claridge's Bar (doubtful), it would be imperative that I specified wanting to be seated in the main bar . I felt as though I had genuinely rinsed of my money. Very very disappointing.

Warm welcome from the hostesses of the first on the right bar.
We asked for the popular bar they offered us terrace when we said we would like a drink for the experience to see the bar they offered us a table in the bar in a bad spot but that’s alright.
We were greeted after 5 min we ordered water and 2 Ramos Gin Fizz, water and nuts on the table after 10 min and drinks 15min.
Ramos gin fizz looked good but tasted awful, more like soda water and lemon, which is alright is hard cocktail to make but after calling the server to tell him to change it because he skipped the quality check, the answer was << I know the specs we do it like this >>. After we had a conflict in order to have the same drink remade for us.
Didn’t even had the courtesy to remove the service charge which was 5 £.

Being an institution of Londons hotel and restaurant service I could not have been more disappointed.
The service at Claridges as it should be was exceptional however the food on my visit today was totally unexceptional.
In all honesty I would rate my food today in the restaurant 3 out of 10.
I will absolutely not be returning to Claridges to eat again in the near future as it was absolutely substandard at top prices.
I started with the shellfish cocktail please let your chefs go to Scots and try their shellfish cocktail there is no comparison.
The lobster was tasteless as were the crab and prawns The only reason for this is cheap produce. This should not be the case at an establishment like Claridges
My Dover sole was deboned yet swimming in butter and oil ….literally drowning in it.
My goodness how the high have fallen
Such a shame
This was a fabulous go to for me
Sadly no longer

Dear SnoopySnoo,
Naturally I was concerned to read about your recent experience at Claridge's Bar. At Claridge's we aspire to only work with the finest and freshest ingredients and your feedback will be discussed in full with the kitchen team. It was most kind of you to take time in your review to pay compliment to the exceptional service, however I understand the food not living up to this has heavily impacted upon your overall experience.
I would hate for this to be your lasting memory of Claridge's Bar and I would be grateful for the opportunity to investigate further. Should this be agreeable please feel free to reach out directly on ashorten@claridges.co.uk
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and I remain at your disposal.

There are a number of "top" venues in London that seem to fall short on quality of product. Service was faultless. Courteous, kind and efficient staff made the experience rather enjoyable, but the drinks just weren't as good as expected.
Grapefruit sherbet and oak moss tincture stick in my mind as I remember being excited by the creative list, it's just unfortunate they didn't taste so good as other bars we've visited.
My first drink cost ÂŁ45, and was not so good as a ÂŁ20 cocktail I tried at a little bar in Cornwall that was equally interesting, creative, and using good quality liquor.
A good experience, but left feeling like we were paying excessively for ass-kissery service.

Dear CocktailFyre,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to the Fumoir bar.
Of course I was disappointed that your experience has been below the level of which one would expect. I note the drink offering and also the fault in approach to the service.
I have of course shared your feedback with the team and I would like to pass my sincere apologies on their behalf.
I would not wish this to be your lasting memory following your visit to Claridge's. If you could afford me the possibility to correspond further I would be most grateful. I am available to be reached on jlyons@claridges.co.uk.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Whilst our cocktails were beautifully mixed and crafted the same could not be said for the service which really let the whole experience down. We arrived at 4.30 and were seated by a door leading to the outside. It was in constant use by both staff and guests and so was not only very cold and draughty but very disruptive as it was in constant use. We asked if we could be moved after 20 mins we'd still not heard anything and so we asked a different member of staff. Yes they would ask but yet again nothing happened. At the 3rd time of asking much later another member of staff did check and we were eventually moved only to be told that we could have the table but for 30mins less than our allotted slot. There were tables free before this so we could have been moved much earlier on. This lack of service reflects badly on a luxury hotel which claims to provide 5* service and shows the need for staff training. It meant we had one cocktail and left so rather than enjoying the ambience and experience we were left feeling disappointed. My daughter had arranged it as a birthday treat and we'd travelled from Sussex for this.

Popped in for a quick drink with a colleague and was told that the bar was at full capacity so we were very happy to sit outside. As we passed via the bar area we noticed it was very quiet but never mind. We sat on a cosy table outside and ordered a negroni and a glass of white wine followed by a bill for ÂŁ64. Enough said.

The Clariges bar is tucked away in the corner of the foyer of the hotel. It felt like the entrance was a secret passage. We were met by a very sweet hostess who showed us to our table. Sadly, it was as far from the bar as possible. We asked if we could sit in the main part of the bar where there appeared to be a better atmosphere, which they kindly accommodated. The waiter took my order for Chardonnay “Mount Veeder” Mayacamas, Napa Valley 2017 £130. The wine was chilled and was fine. The service is good and amicable. The bar was full of people of all ages and walks of life, several businessmen and family groups as well as couples. The music was quite loud, and the lighting was rather bright until 19:00 where it was subdued drastically and was then more like a bar. The bar policy is children were not allowed in the bar after 18:00. The bar policy was not enforced!

We booked a table for pre-dinner cocktails in Claridge’s Bar last night with friends to celebrate a birthday. The table was booked many weeks ago and we received several reminders about the importance of arriving punctually.
When we arrived on time we were informed that the table was not yet available and were asked to wait in a narrow dark corridor behind the bar. No apology was offered by the female member of staff. At 15 minutes after our booking time we enquired and were told that the table was being prepared. When we were finally taken to the table it was opposite the bar with a black curtain next to the table. We quickly realised that this was an outside door through which staff and customers were almost constantly passing. Each time they did so there was an icy blast of cold air which hit everyone at the table. The cocktails were excellent but the service was extremely slow with only one bartender much of the time.
We were hoping for a premium experience from such a prestigious cocktail bar but the staff were offhand and unwelcoming and the table we were given was awful. We will not be returning!

We decided to visit Claridges for a pre dinner cocktail and were completely ignored by all the staff. We were not staying there but had dressed up for the occasion. We walked in, not knowing where to go and were completely ignored by all staff. The cocktail bar was full, which was fair enough as we hadn't booked and were advised to try their other bar. Not sure where this was, we asked a member of staff who did not know. 2 other staff members cut in front of us very rudely. The alternative bar was very small and claustrophobic so we did not stay and went somewhere else much nicer and friendlier. Shan't be back!
