Neighborhood: Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.

This place is a tad on the 'ultra hip' side, but with the kind of mood it produced, that's absolutely fine by me.

We came in to escape the brick lane markets for 5 minutes, and were entranced by fantastic performances of french folk songs on accordion & clarinet. 5 minds turned into an hour, and an absolute highlight of our trip to London.

As long as it stays the way it was today, it'll remain one of my favourite places in London.

Service, food and drinks here are always spot on. A really unusual place for cake and hot drink or a light lunch. High quality ingredients served by colourful characters amidst antique artefacts. Chairs can sometimes be a bit worn out and uncomfortable, this adds to the charm for me but some would find it off putting.
Home made cakes are very tempting and well displayed, wide choice of lovely drinks, Chai latte very good according to my daughter.
Always pop in here after Columbia Rd market for a treat.

Found this through the mobile app and gave it a go. Almost full but they found us two seats on a communal club style table. Very attentive staff and good selection of snacks. Music before we left. Slightly studied approach by the staff and most of the customers. Recent reviews gave us an insight so no culture shock. We like this area and if here would probably come to Vintage Emporium again.

but so sad, this wonderful place will have to close in April 2015. They have been asked for an outrageous rent increase which they cannot afford.

It is so lovely and chic. Coffee and cakes on the ground floor, retro clothes shop in the basement.

Also many people use it to quietly surf on their laptops.

PS Don't be put off by the outward appearance.

Looks a mess from outside but good mix of stuff inside. Large selection of period but stylish clothes downstairs and cluttered but comfortable cafe room upstairs. Good cake tea coffee etc. mellow hospitable feel.

In Bacon Street yards off Brick Lane about two thirds of the way down the Sunday street market. Hidden when we arrived behind some covered stalls and we had to scramble over dozens or empty boxes but inside was a different world. Maybe BoHo or Hipster depending on your perception of either, but the inside is on the upper ground floor is packed with tables, one large and some smaller. A well equipped drinks and cake and snacks bar which produced for us some very good tea and good choice of cake. Packed with a few tourists but mostly relaxed well heeled Londoners. For our first hour there was some exceptional live Central European Jewish genre fiddle music rom a couple we never saw evidently sitting on the floor amongst the vintage cloths rails on the floor beneath us and then for our last half an hour a two guys and a girl trio, oboe guitar and something lease started their set of quaint and mellifluous songs which drew murmurs of approval from the punters. An interesting space, unexpected and stimulating background entertainment and good drink and fodder at tea time. Would come again, recommended.

We came here to check out the shop and ended up coming back for the café. The shop is very well curated (and thus on the pricier side), but I would definitely go here if I had to find a dress for a special occasion. The sales assistant was lovely: knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about vintage clothing. The tea room is charming and quirky - and the lunches we had were reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back!

My friends and I did not stay at The Vintage Emporium for longer than a few moments. The staff member who spoke to us was rude and unfriendly and the atmosphere was entirely unwelcoming. Other than the female staff member who was rude I do not believe we were even acknowledged.
