Another mode of transport

We seem to have used every mode of transport in London! The DLR was prompt and got us to Canary Wharf quickly. Some good views as well on the way when overground.

The DLR is now almost 30 years old and was devised to connect areas of East London not served by the otherwise extensive London Underground Network. It covers the likes of London City Airport, Stratford, Canary Wharf and The Docklands. The trains are driverless, clean and regular, easy to use and generally, apart from peak hours during the working week,... More

It's not the fastest thing on wheels, but it's a lot better travelling on the DLR in August than on the buses or the tubes. Make sure the windows are open in the carriage and you should have a decent blast of air to keep you cool. I wish I could say the same for the tube!

Yesterday I stayed at a hotel near ExCel center and travel to Olympic park. Started my journey at Prince Regent station, changed another train at Canning Town and finally reached Stratford station. Return journey also on same way. I really appreciate the way this trains running, timing, friendly staff members, overground journey with fabulous views all over the way....fantastic. Why... More

I have only been on the Docklands Light Railway once before in January 2014 and looked forward to my trip to BETT 2016. In 2014 i didnt have to change at the DLR went straight from Stratford International to Custom House whereas this year i had to change at Canning Town as there wasnt a through train. The DLR was... I had spent several days using the underground to get around. Coming back to Tower Hotel from Greenwich, I tried Rick Steves' suggestion to use the DLR. It was great! Used my Oyster Card, then got a refund for unused $$$ (last day in London) very easily. The DLR was easy to find, waited 10-15 minutes. The map is clear,... More

Have just spent a week using the DLR to travel in and out of central London. Station at Canning Town just a short walk from our hotel. Very reasonable price with an Oyster card. The trains are modern, clean and easily accessible for wheelchairs, buggies, luggage etc. as you can wheel on and off the platform with ease. Plenty of... More

Travelled from Canary Wharf to Stratford on this very clean and speed train. We didn't realise that the train went just between these stations so sat where we thought was the front (for a great view) but it was the back!! Had a seat both ways. A little pricey but my young son was free.

Thisis an engineering feat and I always marvel at how it was constructed. Its clean and very efficient. You can go to London City Airport, Bank in the City Centre, Greenwich or Stratford magnificent shopping centre. Charges are very reasonable and most tickets work on underground and buses.

Staying in Westminster

Neighborhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
