Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

Feel good musical with pretty solid performances from the excellent cast. Based on a true story, it's an uplifting tale of acceptance in a very flamboyant background of outlandish costumes. Fully recommended for visitors and Londoners alike.

Didn't know what to expect with this show but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was a show full of surprises, talent and plenty of high energy numbers. The staff were friendly and the process to get in and out of the theatre was easy too! Great stuff!

Some brilliant acting and dancing. Great fun. Probably not suitable for young children because of the nature of the show. As always, get your ticket from the TICS box office in Leicester Square on the day of the performance for great value seats.

You're bound to enjoy the over-the-top fun of this Olivier award-winning footwear-based musical. Not quite sure how the Broadway version would captured the splendour of Northampton. It looks like its run has been extended to mid-January 2017 so see it while you can. We went on a Saturday and picked up reduced price tickets in the Leicester Square ticket booth... More

We went to London for the day and fell upon the theatre. We decided to but tickets for the next show. We paid £75 each, £20 off each ticket. The theatre s really nice inside. The show very good. The actors are extremely talented. The one very big negative - I'm 6 feet 2 and had to move seat at... More

Based on the movie of the same name. (See it for the plot). This musical was recommended to us by some friends who had seen it. We hadn't seen the movie but trusting our friends we went to see it. The music and dance numbers were full of energy and the cast was great. I loved Matt Henry's performance as... More

Kinky Boots is one of the most entertaining shows we have seen in London. Matt Henry certainly deserves the Olivier Award he has received
