Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

I went with a 17-yearold, who is not too fond of theatre and musicals, but she loved it. We just popped by to hear if anything was available, and we chanced on Kinky Boots. The main charcters were brilliant, and so were the dance crew. Will recommend, absolutely!

I enjoyed the show, The cast were talented particularly the actor who played Lola, amazing dancer and great voice. A wonderful story which was poigant and funny. Would recommend. My only fault is that some of the language was a bit strong for a show which was part of the kids go free season.

This is probably the best show I have seen in the West End and my friends felt the same. All the cast are brilliant especially Matt Henry as Lola and the storyline, music and comedy leave you with that feel good factor for days afterwards. There was a very deserved standing ovation at the end. Would recommend getting seats in... More

The show itself was great, entertaining with a great story line. The night before I saw Wicked which had all the fancy stage props which this show didn't have but it still had me enthralled. The theatre was small and quaint with clean bathrooms. Down side was we were not able to take our glasses of drink into theatre and... More

We decided to see Kinky boots while in London. Not knowing what to expect I can happily say it was a great show, good story line acted out and plenty of action. Matt Henry was a big hit I would be happy to see this again one day

My boyfriend treated me to this for my birthday, least to say I was over the moon as this is my favourite film! So to see the musical is was very happy indeed. Loved every minute of it, I did notice a few changes to order of some of the scenes and some had been mixed together to make one.... More
