Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

We caught a matinee on a Wednesday. This was a great venue to watch a show with brilliant performances. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Make sure you read the storyline, so you know what is in the show. After that being said, this was a heart warming story asking audience to accept humans for what they are, and stop the bitterness for what they are not. Compassion required. Music was nice. I came away a bit sad at understanding my own lack of compassion.... More

Kinky Boots - a gloriously fun evening out. The story itself is gossamer-thin, but the performances are brilliant, particularly the two male leads, who both have great voices. Matt Henry was superbly sassy as Lola, accompanied by her angels. Nothing deep or profound happens, but the songs carry the audience along nicely. The theatre itself is good and even has... More

The show was just brilliant!!! From the minute it started.... the cast, sets , Adelphi all top class . We were fortunate to have got super seats ( although expensive) through the hotel concierge during the X Mas holidays .... worth the money spent . We would love to see it again . Absolutely Outstanding!!!!!!!

Went on the Wednesday matinee and the energy coming from all the cast on stage was absolutely incredible. The music was great in a pop-ish sort of way and the cast absolutely put their all into the performance. Shame this level of dedication to quality isn't prevalent in all shows in London.

We went on Tuesday and were blown away by the show. It is a great story with a message, superbly acted, particularly by Lola (Matt Henry), Charlie ( David Hunter) and Lauren (Elena Skye) but the whole cast are excellent. Though the score is not particularly memorable both the music and lyrics suit the story line It is a real... More

Wow what a great show. The dancers were fab in their heels. Was very up beat and had the crowd clapping along which was good. We had seats in the upper circle on the back row near the centre of the row but had a railing in front of our seats which when we asked for a cushion to enable... More
