Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
How to get there

Resting Place

I visited Grosvenor Square to check out the Memorial to the September 11th 2001 Bombing which is to one side of the square.

This is not the only reason to visit the square. There is a play area for children and other activities are also available.

Well worth checking out if you are in the area. Close to Park Lane, Oxford Street and Bond Street.

Planning an overhaul
Aug 2020 • Solo
The old US Embassy in Grosvenor Square is completely demolished apart from the original cladding frame. Even the great American eagle that sat on top of the building has gone, so too has the statue of Ronald Reagan which was only unveiled in 2011.

Grosvenor Estate, which is redeveloping the old embassy building is consulting on the future of the Square, which still has American links with the statue of Theodore Roosevelt and monuments to the those who died in the Eagle Squadron in the Second World War and to British citizens who died in the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The planned refresh is to be welcomed as the Square feels a little tired at the moment.

Hopefully Ronald and the eagle will return in the future plans.....

Changes Are Afoot

In September, we were back to London, and staying a few blocks from Grosvenor Square in Mayfair. The hotel’s concierge informed us that several of the statues there were very soon to be removed, so we walked over, to visit Grosvenor Square again.

Much had changed, since we were there during our Spring trip to London - The old, closed US Embassy, immediately to the west of Grosvenor Square was being completely redone, so that end of the Square was a mess - a real mess. That end was basically a construction zone.

I hope that it will return to its previous condition, when this work is done, as we find it to be a great park, with an excellent location in the heart of Mayfair, and surrounded by stately Victorian townhouses - tranquil, and lovely. On this day, it was rather sad, and especially with the impending removal of statues commemorating three US Presidents. We will be back in the Autumn, and hope that Grosvenor Square has returned to how we know, and love it.

A lovely square in the middle of Mayfair. When working nearby this is a haven to come and sit just to escape the hustle and bustle of the office

Lovely large garden square in the heart of Mayfair. It is apparently the centrepiece of the Duke of Westminster property. Flanked by beautiful residences.

elegant part of London

A great location in an elegant part of central London. A quiet square that stands out from the hustle and bustle of crowded streets. Pretty close to many tourist attractions.

Nice park that close to everything (hyde park, green park, regents park, picadilly, regent street, etc.). I stay at a hotel in this central area, and once per day walked through this small but beautiful green space, with a few walking paths, and some very nice memorials. The nicest memorial to me was the September 11th piece; thoughtfully built with nice engravings and a public place to recognize and remember the horrid event in a tasteful manner.

Posh!

A posh park in a very posh place in a London. Grosvenor Square is located in the richest part of London; Mayfair.

It’s a nice, calm, green park with lots of families and children and also lined with a few interesting statues.

Great piece of space close to Oxford Street. Nice design and few interesting statutes. Plus the Sept 11 memorial which is really nice. Recommended
