Received this as a voucher from very good friends for a cooking lesson for Thai food. We're still friends, and the lesson was great. The booking of the lesson and date was easy and well communicated between Fran and I, and the hardest part was choosing which menu we wanted to learn and cook. Learning Sweet Chili dipping sauce won it for me, so we went for the menu with spring rolls, and the sauce. Fran is lovely, and very informative, and presents the lesson very well and is there with help if needed, but mainly the depth of information regarding how to balance the main essences that are required for authentic Thai are stressed. You also get to eat what you cook, which makes it even better, as the fruits of your own labour will astound you, and you'll wonder where this hidden skill has suddenly come from. The kitchen is laid out well, and the ingredients prepared as much as necessary in advance, but you still have to do all the nitty gritty yourself, but that is what it's all about, learning how to cook Thai. The end results were well worth the effort, and now you'll probably never have a Thai at a restaurant again, knowing how to do it yourself. It was a fantastic few hours in great company, learning anew skill, which will be put to good use. It was surprising that the best part of the day was the salad, and although the menu is vegetarian, you'd never know with the rich flavours that abound, and how proud you'll feel at the end after making a gourmet Thai meal , and you'll be bursting to show off your new skills. Thoroughly recommend doing this, as you will not regret it, and it will be a new skill you can take away and use.

We had a private cooking lesson for my girlfriend and I to celebrate her birthday. We are both vegan and like eating Thai food but it is the one cuisine that we don't know how to cook at home. I was nervous about having a cooking lesson because I thought that my efforts would be judged and perhaps I would be too slow. Fran was quick to respond to emails and I chose the private lesson because it allowed my girlfriend to choose any 3 dishes rather than one of the specified set menus. Fran did explain that she'd have to see if there would be time to cook the selected dishes. My girlfriend chose a soup and 2 mains and Fran confirmed that there would be enough time to cook those in our session. We were taught how to balance the taste of our dishes and made a Tom Kha Het soup, Phad Thai and Massamam curry. The session was very relaxed and we were able to ask loads of questions about the ingredients and how to cook them. We've made all of these dishes at home and genuinely think that our food is now better than the food we were getting at Thai restaurants. The recipes have been tweaked to suit our personal tastes eg a few more beansprouts in the Pad Thai etc. The session was so good that we booked another lesson with Fran and so will be seeing her again in a couple of days to learn how to make Red Curry and other dishes.

Thank you so much Fran for a brilliant class. I have never been to any kind of cookery class before so was a little nervous of what to expect and whether I would be able to follow - but the teacher was excellent and very good at explaining things and putting the students at ease. I loved the recipes and learning about how to balance flavours and will definitely recommend this class to friends and come back for more menus myself. Thanks again!

I went to Lapan cooking school with my sister and we absolutely loved our class with Fran. Fran showed how Thai cooking could be both authentic and practical (how to source specific ingredients in London). Her kitchen is lovely and we felt very welcome. Fran explained every ingredient in detail and how a combination of tastes makes a dish tasty, we genuinely learnt a lot and the dishes reminded us of our time our in Thailand earlier that year. I have always disliked coriander and Fran miraculously converted me - she showed me how different ways of cooking coriander changes the taste and I’m still in shock! Lapan cooking school now focuses on vegan meals which I’m curious to learn more on now and would definitely love to go back again. Would highly recommend if you’re interested in learning more on Thai cuisine and cooking. I’m very excited to try making these dishes at home now (especially the mango salad!)
