The Gate Theatre sits above the Prince Albert pub in Notting Hill. We have been inspiring audiences and artists alike since 1979.

In our intimate, ever-transforming 75 seat venue, we produce epic theatre that tackles big ideas of global concern. We act as a loudspeaker for unheard voices from across the globe. We are a small theatre but we always think big.

We take pride in our reputation for being the home of restless creative ambition. We are a celebrated ‘teaching theatre’: a place where exceptional and diverse emerging theatre-makers shine, and where audiences get to see the theatre leaders of tomorrow, today.

We welcome anyone who wants to change the world.

"The Gate is our oxygen. It should be on the NHS."

I've been visiting the Gate for years and the plays they always put on are passionate, engaging and showcase the hottest young talent. Any production I've seen there has always been boundary breaking and innately political. If you want a great, engaged night at the theatre and the chance to see someone first it's really the venue to go to.... More

They really push the boat out in new writing, very bold in its productions. Has a loyal following of theatre goers. Even do a gate crashers tickets of a tenner. A world class theatre.

The Gate is, I think, the most exciting theatre in London. They make work that is bold, subversive, and incredibly exciting. The theatre only has 70 seats, so you'll always get an intimate, personal experience of the play being performed. Also interesting is the fact that the Gate is a changeable space; each time I've been, the seats are configured... More

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighborhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
