The area
Neighborhood: South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

Disappointing experience!
Aug 2021 • Couples
Definitely a huge disappointment if you compare to a true Turkish Hammam . Not even towels are offered if you are staying as a guest at the hotel. Not worth the money spent!

DO NOT GO HERE! NO PRIVACY in the so called "treatment room"
Mar 2020 • Friends
I have been to many spas and this ks the worst spa experience in my life. After getting changed into my robe, I was taken to the relaxation room, and ushered to my treatment area..to my shock and horror the massage bed is INSIDE the relaxation room, and the only thing to protect my privacy are what look like shower curtains surrounding the massage bed. It isn't a spa, everything is in a very small room. Due to the hammam steam room being located closeby, the air-conditioning was blasted to regulate the room temperature. Unfortunately that meant I was frozen whilst receiving the mediocre massage. Also you can easily hear people talking behind the curtains. Please do not go here! Even if you're looking for a massage without a spa experience, save your money and go elsewhere.

Disappointing 'Spa' experience
Dec 2019
Essentially the main thing was that there were no hydrotherapy or pool facilities, and we were not allowed access to the hammam, so we did not feel like it was fair to describe it as a spa day, which is the premise under which we made the purchase. I understand that probably the spa is going to argue that they call it a 'spa experience', but the site that listed it when you search for spa days and surely that is what most people are expecting when they book a package with several hours to spend at a spa.

When I booked, the spa manager advised we could arrive at 10.30am to 'use the facilities' before our treatments. When we arrived, however, nobody was expecting us and the spa had no reception staff. The receptionist from the main part of the hotel showed us downstairs and directed us into a store cupboard which he thought was the changing rooms! When we came out again, a harassed looking therapist who was in the middle of giving somebody else a massage came out from behind a curtain and told us to go and wait in the changing rooms for half an hour. The treatment area is open plan and just separated from the main atrium of the spa by a curtain, so there is no way to sit on the daybeds and talk without disturbing somebody else's treatment. So we sat in the changing room until it was time for our treatments.

The first treatment was described as a 30 minute body scrub. I thought this might mean a scrub with some nice products and maybe a body mask, but it was literally a quick scrub down with a glove/mitt and lasted about 10 minutes maximum. We were then asked to shower it off ourselves, but the shower was cold. When we asked why there was no hot water, we were told they would get maintenance to have a look. The treatment area was air conditioned so we were both freezing by the end of the massage! Again when we asked for them to turn the heating up, they just said they would talk to maintenance.

The massage was fine but nothing special, it was clear the therapists were not particularly highly trained. Once our massages were finished, we were asked to change and leave the spa. At this point there was still two hours til our afternoon tea was scheduled. I think given the spa manager herself suggested these timings, she ought to be under obligation to explain to clients that once the treatment is finished, there is literally nothing to do. The expectation if you've paid for a spa day is that there will be hydrotherapy facilities, a pool, or even just a relaxation area with some daybeds and water/tea/juice etc.

we went upstairs and were able to be served the afternoon tea early, but again this was a bit of a disappointment. The food was fine in parts, but several of the cakes had clearly been frozen and defrosted and the scones were small and stale - I don't think they were freshly baked.

Overall we just felt it was extremely poor value for money. You could have a really nice massage for £75 and a really nice afternoon tea for £25 and still have paid £30 less than what we paid for this experience. We felt it was a complete misrepresentation of what we got and felt totally ripped off.

Good massage..but...
Aug 2019
So my partner had booked a private afternoon hammam and massage for us.
The spa area (basement) is ostentaious like the hotel which is nice. Gold trim everywhere!
The staff were proffesional but not warm and friendly.
The hammam was, hot, nice and different. We were given a "scrub", which is more of a natural soap that smells like vicks, and we use that with the srub mitts provided.. for some reason this wasnt what my partner was expecting but I quite liked it.
The full body massage after was nice as well... we both had facials.
Nothing outstanding but I would recommend it.

Kalon Spa & Afternoon Tea
The spa was lovely and relaxing - treatments were fantastic! Only thing is that unlike some spa days, there was no pool/jacuzzi to enjoy. Aside from that we had a wonderful day. The afternoon tea was also amazing and the staff went out of their day to make day extra special for us as we were celebrating our bride-to-be. Thanks!

The best massage I've had in ages
Jul 2019 • Solo
I have recently been fortunate to experience a 90-minute "Muscle Melt" massage at Le Kalon Spa, and can't recommend it enough! The delightful masseuse, Alexandra, worked my tired limbs and stress knots with wonderful oils, and soon enough I felt weightless and lithe. The aches and pains are a distant memory - thank you so much, Alexandra. Within a day or two, I discovered another fabulous benefit of this massage: I feel and look slimmer, as my lymphatic system is working efficiently now. This is a perfect way to get ready for a beach holiday, and I am looking forward to coming back again soon.

Good experience, very friendly spa attendant

Visited end of June for my birthday and I had the “Summer detox” treatment, which consisted of self hammam for an hour, where you enjoy the nice steam with a black soap to wash nicely and an amazing vanilla salt scrub that leaves you smelling divine(will definitely purchase it!) and then you continue onto the massage for approximately 20 minutes and facial for another 20 minutes.

The massage was nice, she put quite a strong pressure but in a good way, and the facial was also good. I really enjoyed the conversation and the approach she had (I believe her name was Alexandra if I remember correctly, a french lady), she made my experience an enjoyable one in the end.

The downside was that the venue itself felt quite old and also the fact that they’ve given me the wrong tea order and arrived 15 minutes late, which made my treatment also be late.

All in all it was a relaxing experience and I would recommend if you want some hours to yourself and to enjoy the lovely La Sultane de Saba products.

Fabulous Spa experience

I booked for Hamam package Tranquillity and Karin Herzog facial. Hamam was very private: cleanse and scrub pleasant and throughout. Massage was also top. Facial felt luxury and after all this pampering a glass of champagne was included! I definitely come back!

Such an incredible massage!

I was bought a massage here as a gift and it was amazing. The therapist was great and the session was so relaxing- 90 minutes flew by. There's also a small gym and sauna to use beforehand. I thoroughly recommend a visit!

Distinctly average, felt a little ripped off
Nov 2017 • Friends
Booked a spa package (together with high tea at the Bentley Hotel) which was advertised as being 3 to 4 hours (100-150 pounds on Spa Breaks). Despite mixed reviews on Tripadvisor decided to give this place a chance.

We were advised by Spa staff to come at 1pm and told that treatment would be at 2pm. When we arrived around 1pm we were asked to wait in lobby area of hotel as apparently there were treatments going on in the Spa. So we sat there until around 1.45pm which was not really an issue as we used this time to catch up but it was still slightly awkward sitting around the hotel lobby which was a little cold and not very comfortable. We had thought that the spa would have a chill our area but later saw it really did not. Once collected we were taken to the spa to get ready for our treatments. No robes were provided, just towels so this was also a rather awkward experience trying to hide under a towel given there were a few others around (one staff member surprisedly asked whether we had not come prepared with bikinis? Very random given there is no harmman or pool).

There is essentially only one treatment room where we all had our treatment, so the beds were lined up next to each other. The staff asked which treatments we wanted which again was a little annoying given this wasp rebooked and put in booking and again discussed when we were picked up. The treatment room was a little cold in there and I could hear killing noise during the treatment which was not all very relaxing. The massage itself (Swedish and aromatherapy) were fine, no complaints here. The staff were very nonchalant, disinterested and struggled to open their mouths or not to mention smile.

After the treatment we were asked to get dressed and leave. So we were back in the hotel lobby and as per the plan would have had another hour to the high tea. We asked if we could bring it forward and the hotel was very accommodating which was good.

Overall I don't know what I paid for given that you can have a much better experience at other spas for half that money (particularly outside London). It was the little touches which were missing - aromatherapy usually starts with a steaming eucalyptus being placed under bed. No robes, the staff being disinterested, the sound, I could go on.

As much as I would have loved to have a new spa in town that I would willingly pay money for a relaxing experience, this is not it. Felt a little ripped off, but then again it is London.....
