About
There can be no other theatre in the world which has two such distinct and diverse claims to fame as the Aldwych.During the period from 1925 until 1933 the theatre housed a series of farces by Ben Travers which have gone down in history as 'The Aldwych Farces'. They included such familiar titles as A Cuckoo in the Nest, Rookery Nook, Thark, Plunder and A Cup of Kindness. Nearly 30 years later, on 15 December 1960, the Royal Shakespeare Company took over the Aldwych as its London base.During the next 21 years, prior to the company moving to its theatre in the Barbican, history was frequently made. The Aldwych is currently the residence for the Olivier & Tony award winning Beautiful - The Carole King Musical

Tina Turner at the A;dwych Theatre
Nov 2021
Really enjoyed the show on Nov 27. The music and story were great. It is a beautiful old theatre. Everyone was wearing masks. Probably because of Covid, the air conditioning was turned high so several people put their coats back on during the interval

I was surprised that about half way through the first half four people were allowed in - they walked right to the front of the circle and disturbed not only the people in that row but everyone behind as well.

The theatre seemed a very safe place and the staff were all friendly and welcoming.

The audience was very enthusiastic and gave a standing ovation..

Well done Aldwych!
Nov 2021 • Couples
We went to see Tina the Musical at the Aldwych yesterday (matinee) - the musical was fantastic, but I must also praise the Aldwych . It was a full house but getting in/ checking codified passports was so well managed it took minimal time. Getting a drink in the interval only took a few minutes, despite high demand. All in all a lovely theatre, great view, great acoustics with well organised friendly and efficient staff.

Packed in like sardines
Oct 2021 • Couples
Was so looking forward to my birthday trip to see Tina the musical last weekend. My husband had paid £75 per ticket for grand circle seats. Ridiculously cramped! I spent the first half of the show sat on 2/3rd of my seat due to the man sat next to me and was unable to sit back ,relax and enjoy the show.We were going to leave at the interval because of this. I decided that we'd paid a considerable amount of money to see the show so asked the man if he would move onto his own seat and that I'd had his elbow in my ribs throughout the first half. He stated it was very cramped but managed to stay on his own seat in the second half so I was able to relax and enjoy the second half more but quite frankly couldn't wait to leave the theatre! Absolutely packed to the rafters, literally and no social distancing and very few masked.

Fantastic experience
Nov 2021 • Family
We had booked on an organised trip March 2020 and finally today we got to see the show . Due to the time lapse a member of our party’s disability declined but I can not thank the theatre enough . Nothing was to much trouble from getting the wheel chair into the theatre to actually changing our seats . Checking on mum in the interval and taking control on leaving the theatre. A massive thank you to Dylan for looking after us , nothing was to much trouble and he definitely went the extra mile. . The show was absolutely fantastic well done to all concerned.

Tina musical
Oct 2021 • Family
The musical was great but after receiving all the instructions for Covid-19 it was disappointing to see that there were no social distancing in theatre. Every seat was occupied and only few wearing face masks.

Fabulous musical.
Aug 2021
Bit disappointed with the lack of masks being worn by the audience,a full house with very few wearing masks which we were told were compulsory beforehand.
Nevertheless the Tina Turner Musical was unmissable, what a performance by the young lady playing Tina and the rest of the cast were faultless too.The Aldwych Theatre is showing its age, seating not the most comfortable, but there is a good bar area even if its a bit expensive.Dont miss this 5star musical.

Great Theatre
Oct 2021
Really liked this theatre, thought it was all very cute and great seating. Where the bar is for the circle seats has a round bannister going around the middle which was great to look down over. Lovely theatre

Uncomfortable seating crammed together
Oct 2021
Tina the musical truly amazing. However I felt crammed in the seating area squashed together. Also my seat had seen better days and was very low and soft highly uncomfortable. Not everyone had masks on and there was a lot of coughing. Crammed together again on leaving the theatre.

Tina Turner Musical, Cancelled Twice!
Oct 2021 • Couples
We booked seats for the musical in 2020. It was cancelled due to covid. Fine, understandable. We rebooked for Monday 4th October 2021, 7pm show. We travelled to London. I got a text at 6.15pm that day, informing me that the show was cancelled. 45 minutes notice. What an appalling way to treat customers. I won't be booking again. Nor will we ever go to the Aldwych Theatre.
