About
Built in 1905, the Aldwych Theatre has housed many famous productions since its opening, including the first performance of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard in England, A Streetcar Named Desire starring Vivien Leigh, Tom Stoppard’s Jumpers, Tom and Clem starring Sir Michael Gambon and Alec McCowen and Amy’s View with Dame Judi Dench. In the 2000s it became a popular musical theatre venue housing Fame, Dancing in the Streets and Dirty Dancing, which became the longest running show at the Aldwych so far, with five wonderful years at the theatre. Notable productions in recent years have included Irving Berlin’s Top Hat as well as Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies, both based on Hilary Mantel’s award-winning books, and the Olivier Award-winning Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. The theatre is currently home to the world premiere production of the acclaimed Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, which opened in March 2018.

    Tina, the Musical.
Saw Tina - The Musical. Excellent production although there was a 10 minute hiccup in the second half but the show restarted. Our seats were in the front row of the dress circle so limited legroom but fine for us. The women's toilets are pretty cramped but apart from that, a lovely theatre. Nearest tube is Holborn, Piccadilly and Central Lines.

    Great theatre - small seats
First time to this theatre and it was to watch Tina The Musical which was fantastic. I cannot praise the show enough, just spellbinding, and entertaining. The theatre is beautiful with lovely decorations also I did find the seats a little bit uncomfortable after a while for the larger lady!

    Nice venue
This is a great venue - it is old and it is fascinating. However, due to its age, it is also not tiered seating and unfortunately we were seated behind some very tall men. If I could give it a 4.5 I would - the staff was very professional and the intermission was handled really efficiently.

    Simply the best!! Hehe
Great show about the legend TT. Tells a story of her difficult life through to superstardom as a solo. Music was awesome and the glitz was just fabulous. Didn’t use the bars, so cant comment. Smaller theatre, seats were in dress circle with descent view.

    Tina a thrilling musical
Absolutely brilliant night in a classic setting . Warm friendly and helpful staff . The musical Tina is a fitting moving tribute to a legend . The audience is swept along in an amazing show that covers tge awfulness of childhood abuse and marital abuse in a sensitive but true way . The rise and falll and resurrection of Tina is expertly portrayed by a wonderfully talented cast . To have had the privilege of seeing this show is just fantastic .

    Max for president.
Max - Supervisor from the main circle. My mum was struggling with knee pain in the bleachers. She was visibly upset and in discomfort as she couldn't continue to sit in our seat. This wasn't a problem - after all we booked the seats! We set off to go home and Max went out of his way to see if there was an alternative solution to our problem. He found us some space where she could leave her leg out and allowed us to enjoy the second half of the show. Above and beyond and it meant the world to us. Thank you so much.

    Great West End theatre
My friend and I saw TINA at this theatre a couple of days ago and had such an amazing time. We were lucky enough to secure tickets in the stalls and the show was outstanding. The seats were comfy and we had a great view of the stage. The only issue I would say with this theatre however would be that there are limited refreshments. We saw nowhere to get anything upon arrival and two separate members of staff told us there would be an opportunity to get a drink near our seats. This turned out to be just a small stand set up and I ended up with a lukewarm can of still water, which was far from refreshing! However, the Haagen-Dazs ice cream at the interval was a soothing salve to this experience!! Polite staff, friendly, and a lovely theatre.

    Fantastic performance
We totally loved Tina, my partner booked this as a surprise for Christmas. What a great performance and a lovely theatre. We sat in the Grand Circle Row G - the seats are small with no leg room and that row the seats do not lift up so its hard to get in & out. The rows either side of G the seats lifted making it easier. The performance was excellent and very interesting to learn more about Tina Turner. Had a very enjoyable evening.

Booked Tina, for my friends birthday a year ahead, I'm glad I did not pay more than £25, the show for me was too hiped up and having seen the film it added nothing spectacular, I was disappointed. I just regret not being able to see Tina live and this did not cut it for me, i've seen other renditions of other artist and trust me i've been wowed.
The Theater was very cramped and which made it hot, its old! its small and compact very packed like sandwiches, the theaters making a mint as usual not looking to give comfort to customers, if you are afraid of heights and suffer vertigo than don't go for the top, though these are the least expenxive seats i think, i mangaged to get a deal at the time and would not pay anything more for this theater, its like climbing a mountain and you feel as though you are falling over especially when standing.
By the end of the show I was feeling hot and sick not from vertigo but from the sardine like theater experience. Had it not been for my friends birthday treat, I would have left. The show itself was average but the theater for me was poor.
Sorry just telling the truth of my experience.

Tina Turnt 100% amazing show! The lead one of the best leads I have ever seen along with the actor Ike (and I've seen a lot of shows!) Full credit to the cast! The performance itself I cannot fault and It was a great performance by all of the cast 10/10.

The reason for the low score was not for the musical but management! Being disrespectful to the patrons! The seats behind 4 women continued to talk throughout the performance! Laughing in serious moments! Screaming and laughing out loud! They had been told on numerous occasions to not put the drinks on the ledge and to stop talking. However, if anything this antagonise them further. Making the whole situation even worse for the 6 seats in front us being one of them.

During the interval they were told by a member of staff along with security. Our row was also told to stop singing and clapping. When in actual fact our row was doing no different to the rest of the theatre during the one performance of rolling on the river.

As a dedicated theatre goer who goes to the theatre multiple times a month. Support throughout covid and wearing a mask all the time (which ALOT of audience members did not even though it was mandatory for you theatre to keep everyone safe). I am not only disappointed that more was not done for that row but to be accused of not doing theatre etiquette who has seen numerous shows in the West End and from around the country!

We paid £120 for audacity and cheek to be told off and to not actually hear the main performance! I feel let down by the members of staff. For not doing more and ultimately ruined my mother's 60th birthday celebrations.

COVID heaven this place and staff down right rude and vile. If your going to see Tina Turner you'll have to sing and not clap and no singing aloud! Seats uncomfortable! Overall ruined experience by staff and audience crying shame as we'd traveled down specifically for the show. Shalt ever return to the aldwych theatre based on how we was treated!

I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The actress that plays Tina is incredibly talented. She sounds just like her. The cast were all really talented. The best production that I have ever seen in theatre by a mile. Unfortunately spoilt by lack of covid sense. It was rammed in there and a lot of people were not wearing masks. Just because one is double jabbed does not mean he or she cannot catch covid or pass it on. I booked my tickets on the understanding that people were going to be wearing masks. All of the literature that was sent before hand was clear, you have to wear a mask indoors at all times. No one around where I was sitting was wearing one and I felt very uncomfortable with that in such an enclosed and small space. My daughter has not even had her jabs yet. Irresponsible ! The theater ushers held up cards saying wear your masks but no one enforced it and there could have been an announcement at the start of each interval, for your safety and that of others, please wear your masks. In supermarkets and larger indoor areas it is OK, I can avoid people and move away so I don't get too close. I could not here. During a time where infection rates are still too high, the theatre had control and should have been more responsible. But the show was incredibly amazing.

We saw the show and although the cast was great we found that there was no atmosphere and no one seemed to enjoy themselves. The Staff was very uptight and miserable and I wont recommend this to anyone.
Out of all the Venues in London this is by far the absolute worse one.

Simply the worst experience. Staff rude and intimidating. I was accused of swearing at a member of staff which was completely untrue. We were watched and intimidated by staff through the first half of the show. During the interval I stayed seated the usher decided to come over take me out of my seat saying he needed to speak to me. I politely asked if he could speak to me at my seat which he refused. He Took me up a flight of stairs inside the theatre in front of hundreds of people and started filming me without telling me. He accused me of swearing at a member of staff which was not true. Then told me that when I’m moving around the theatre I was not to abuse staff. I reminded him I was sitting in my seat drinking water and he took me out of my seat. I should have been getting an apology the staff member he was referring to had been rude to us when we were only asking how we got to our seats. If me turning to my friend after the woman had been rude to us and say ‘she didn’t need to be so rude’ is abusing staff I’m shocked. Respect goes both ways in society. After the show I attempted to make a complaint to the manager who told me two members of staff heard me swear which was not true I was with 5 friends who all agreed I did not swear but that was ignored. He handed me a card to email a complaint. We were out for a friends 50th birthday ruined by the over actions of the staff. I was not the only person sitting in our area that all said how rude this woman was last night. In the current economic climate going to the theatre is an expensive luxury and people working in theatre’s should be grateful for every paying customer. Anyone going to the theatre should always be respectful to staff and one another. I will be making sure I tell everyone if they are going to spend their hard earned money and go to the theatre do not go to the Aldwych give your money to a theatre that has respect for their customers. Unfortunately I couldn’t tell you if the show was good as I wasn’t paying attention because of staff intimidation.

Great afternoon out today at the Aldwych theatre. The show was amazing and the whole cast were brilliant. The show gave a really good insight into Tina’s life and was quite moving. We sat in dress circle row B and the view was perfect. Pre ordered drinks for a quick collection pre-show, I would recommend taking your own snacks tho if you want to eat as they were quite limited and expensive at the theatre. Would highly recommend this show. Absolutely brilliant.

Visited Aldwych Theatre in January (have seen other shows there over the years)
A nice mediums sized theatre.
We were there whilst some Covid restrictions were still in place (masks)
Theatre was probably only 1/3 full for the evening performance we were there for, but that didn’t seem to affect the atmosphere.
Covid checks were simple & easy with plenty of friendly staff around to assist.

Turned up Friday 20th May after travelling from
Newcastle to see this show. To be greeted at door of theatre to be told the show was cancelled due to staff sickness. No email was received and staff quite unsympathetic- advising that we go and see if we could get into the lion king instead !
The day after we went to theatre in afternoon to see if matinee gone ahead. Doorman advised yes and couldn’t see a reason why evening show would not go on. So we went online and ordered 2 tickets for evening show as still really wanted to see. Turned up an hour later at theatre to be told again the show has been cancelled. Not sure why tickets were still being sold when they just have known show would not go ahead.
Emailed the theatre twice to complain and not had any response. To add to insult we booked the theatre package from OMG hotels and have had no refund or correspondence from the either !! So £200 gone and no performance !!

We travelled to London to see Tina Turner show. At 5.28pm we received a text telling us the show was cancelled. We had paid out for train tickets and a meal but were told we would only receive a voucher to re-book the show. We decided to get tickets for another show and saw Back to the future which was brilliant. This seems to be common place with this show to send a late text to cancel. I was looking forward to my Birthday treat but I think I will give it a miss if I can use the voucher for a different show.

We were in London to go to Wimbledon and so we took the opportunity to book a show and are so glad that we chose the Tina Turner Musical.

We arrived a little too early to gain entrance but my wife has a mobility issue and can not stand for too long. I approached the security at the door and asked if it would be possible for my wife to step inside and sit down. The first response was "sorry sir we don't open until 6:30" as I explained why I asked to enter, he went inside and then came back inviting us in, there was a chair for my wife to sit on.

As staff passed us they would smile as say hello and one particular young lady stopped twice to make sure everything was alright.

Shortly before the the doors open we were approached by a member of staff and asked where we were siting (dress circle) and how much assistance we required. The young lady said "If you just wait here I will get someone from our team to come and see you to your seats".

We were approached by a young man called Chris and a young lady who's name slips my memory. These two members of staff went over and above any other help we have ever had in any situation. We were guided to our seats using a route with minimum steps.... They said they would come back at the interval to see how we were.. they did exactly that "Is everything alright for you? do you need anything?". At the end of the show they were waiting to help exit the theatre via a route without steps and straight out on to the street.

We can not praise the staff members too much and send a big thank you to them all... and it goes to say that we enjoyed the shoe too. It was the first night with a new cast, something you would not have known if we had not been told.
