Brilliant tour. I live locally and wanted to hear some new stories, and fresh perspectives on the art in the area. It was exactly what i hoped for. Yaz is a brilliant story teller, and all round great person. Would highly recommend.

Informative and personable guided tour of street art. Good local knowledge of where to see the best examples and how they are painted. Also interesting to hear about the history of Shoreditch, and how waves of immigration have enriched the area. One mark subtracted for defending the mural of caricature Jewish figures playing Monopoly on the backs of the oppressed. I looked up what the artist (Mear One) had to say: "“Some of the older white Jewish folk in the local community had an issue with me portraying their beloved #Rothschild or #Warburg etc as the demons they are". How can you have ever thought this to be anything but racist?

Thanks for joining the tour and for the positive feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the art and the history of immigration that shaped the area. Regarding the piece you mentioned, it was painted 7 years ago and is no longer there. This was a discussion we had as you had asked for an example of a contentious piece while we were at that particular wall. I said that while the artist was painting it, he had described to me that it was a piece about bankers so I had no idea it could be seen as racist as it was a work in progress. When it was finished however, this was pointed out and he later made the statement you refer to and I obviously in no way condoned this. It was quickly painted over and rightly so. Street Art is a platform for people to convey their thoughts and ideas – good and bad. This doesn’t mean in any way I agree with all of the pieces - far from it. All I can do is give you the information, context and conversations I’ve had with the artists. Thanks again for joining, hope to see you again in the future.

My husband took the advantage of less crowds to act as tourists in London. We were recommended The Alternative Tour of East London. It was a highlight of our stay. Gary was attentive and very knowledgeable not only about street art, but about the history of the area. This tour is a must. We thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.
