Southbank Centre is a world-famous arts centre on the South Bank of the Thames. Our origins are in the 1951 Festival of Britain when our largest venue The Royal festival Hall was built. Southbank Centre has now grown to occupy a 21-acre site in the midst of London's vibrant cultural quarter and as well as Royal Festival Hall our venues include Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room for performance based arts and Hayward Gallery which is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest art galleries. Southbank Centre is also home to The Poetry Library in Royal Festival Hall, a popular Roof Garden created by The Eden Project, Jubilee Gardens which is the area in front of the London Eye and a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars, markets and shops can also be found on our site. Southbank Centre draws on its Festival of Britain heritage to present Festivals For The World. Throughout the year a vibrant programme of themed arts activities takes place both inside and outside our buildings. We offer a very wide range of cultural events from the greatest classical music to performances by contemporary music acts. From dance to performance and spoken word events. 50% of our programme is free so not only do we offer events for all tastes, we offer activities for all pockets too. Whatever you choose to do at Southbank Centre today, we look forward to welcoming you.

Decided to go to the Christmas market on Southbank last weekend. After going years ago with my mum it was excellent but I was extremely disappointed this time. Absolute rubbish! I read online it is "London's biggest Christmas market" and if it is I'd hate...More

We visited just before Christmas. The place was clean, the staff were friendly, the show was well organised and the acoustics were good. There is a range of food outlets inside and some seats outside so you can pick and choose as you please.

Great place to go! Right by the thames river, close to the London eye with the view from the Big Ben. Good food, music and souvenir shopping.

If you want to experience a Christmas market DONT GO HERE! the pictures on line must be from previous years! Found the market? Which is just some sheds, a few little Christmas trees lit up and some little bars. No Christmas feeling at all very...More

The visit was made better by the fact that the sun was giving us a winter treat. As for the stalls themselves, well they were just your usual mixture of crafts etc. Summing up,seemed like a fifty, fifty mix of crafts stall, and then tucked away around the...More

We were expecting to see a river bank lined with wonderful stalls. Nope What's with the food bit?? Makes you think your going into a winter wonderland when it's only food. Very odd and won't bother going again.

We heard a lot about this Christmas market and what probably added to the disappointment was our preconceived ideas of it. We imagined Christmas market stalls spanning the Southbank walk, with mulled wine aplenty, ginger bread and masses of food... What we found was a...More

Always interesting things happening and everyone should take time to check out the current agenda. Strongly recommend the current display in the Strand annexe - the Infinite Mix - a series of video installations with free entry. Video no.10 is not to be missed.

Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a
thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National
Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the
reasons that Southbank is such a collectively
cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly
activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized
river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo
Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and

I take it you mean ''The Wondercrump World of Roald Dahl'' at the Royal Festival Hall? It wouldn't be my type of thing but I have checked with a family member who has been (with children in tow) and they told me they found... More
