The area
Neighborhood: Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.

Beautiful traditional theatre
Oct 2021
We went here to see Blithe Spirit, which we enjoyed! The theatre itself is small and well maintained and is beautiful traditional old theatre. The staff were welcoming and our covid certificates were checked on entry. We were in the stalls - as with most old theatres, there is not much of a slope on the floor, which means that the view of the stage is not always perfect. We happened to have a person in front of us who was head and shoulders taller than anyone else around, which was unfortunate! The seats are comfortable. The small bar served drinks and I think a bottle of red wine for £22 was not overpriced. All in all, a very good experience.

Blithe Spirit & Lovely Theatre
Oct 2021
I love going out to a theatre, this is my first theatre visit after the pandemic. The staff checked my double jab App, checked the contents of my wife's bag, all very friendly and efficient. In fact all the staff are very helpful and friendly. Not my first visit to this delightful London theatre and certainly not my last.
I noticed in the Gent's toilet the hand sanitiser was empty, mentioned it to a staff member and it was re-filled within minutes.
Got served in the downstairs bar easily and quickly (London West End prices of course).
A matinee performance of Blithe Spirit:
We sat in row N seats 1 & 2 in the stalls, great view, no obstructions.
The play was brilliant, funny, great scenery, good effects, acting as good as it gets, not only by the fabulous Jennifer Saunders but all the cast.
We so enjoyed the show and the visit to this charming theatre.
If I could make one criticism: I missed a couple of punch lines and lines wished the cast had worn "mics".

No wine in the bar
Oct 2021 • Couples
Went to see Blyth spirit, excellent performance, all good except they had no white wine and could only offer a glas of prosecco and by the interval ran out of that. This was the matinee performance, so felt sorry for those attending the evening expecting a drink

Please redo the seating
Oct 2021
Opened 21st October 1881 - same seats --- H22, was very uncomfortable.
Theatre has lots of bars and proper toilets, and apart for the seat - excellent.

Well located. Friendly staff. Great play.

My second theatre experience post-pandemic restrictions eased and loved being back. Great audience and lovely show. Really enjoyed it. Theatre is conveniently located behind Leicester Square so lot's of places to go after. Quite an old but intimate theatre. Stall seats were fine even at the back. Bars on premises. Masks need to be worn even when sitting unless eating or drinking. The theatre was very warm surprisingly. Staff were very friendly and managing tickets, entrance, bag checks and temperature checks well. Would recommend.

The four person cast are superb & make a good & energetic hash of creating the frenetic vibrancy of the 2017 Notting Hill Carnival & of conveying their messages of racism, feminism & sisterhood. The script lost me at times though & I was ready for it to finish (90 minutes without interval). Runs til 3rd July 2021.

Even the nosebleeds have a good view
Apr 2019
We got seats that were very high up, but even there we had a good view of the stage, even if we could see the top of the actors' heads better than their faces. The acoustics were excellent too; you could hear a pin drop, but part of that was likely the performance of the actors, which was excellent. I'd love to see another play here.

Incredibly rude box office staff
Feb 2020
It looks as though I'm not the only person who had to deal with rude staff here.

I bought an Uncle Vanya rush ticket. I was there well before the opening time of 10am, and an elderly woman came along to wait as well. It was cold and rainy, so when 10am came and went and there was no sign of the doors opening, we were both looking eagerly into the foyer for someone to let us in. She started knocking. Around 4 minutes past, a man came over and opened the doors and snidely informed us that the theatre didn't open until ten. The elderly woman pointed out that it was already past ten. I can't remember the first bit of what he replied - possibly "calm down" but I can't be sure - but he literally followed it with, "or you won't get any day tickets."

Basic customer service would indicate that you say "sorry for the inconvenience" or something non-committal, or apologise for opening the doors late, and save your complaints about customers for the privacy of the staff room, but apparently that wasn't how the staff are trained to work with the public.

I sent an email but have not had a response from the theatre.

Thankfully the production was far better than the customer service. Rush tickets, by the way, seem to be in the front row (A). For £20 you get the best possible legroom, a place under the overhang to stash your bags, and a pretty good view of the stage - though you might have to crane your neck a bit, and when Toby Jones comes too far downstage, you'll see up his nose.

Dress circle
Feb 2020
Great intimate theatre, where things are a lot closer, staff were pleasant and seating was not the best but typical for that type of theatre

There were the usual bag searches

Part of the ATG group of theatres

I had a good view from the dress circle (A11)

It is rather an unusual theatre and the surroundings were great - ladies WC are plenty but some are tucked away and it can look as if you are pushing the queue
