The area
Neighborhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

Not the Market it once was
Apr 2021 • Family
This market has been completely ruined, if my visit today was anything to go by. Up until fairly recently there were a lot of stalls and you could buy fresh fruit and veg, clothes, jewellery, records....and the place had character and banter from the old market traders. Today there were three stalls and all just street food which you can get anywhere. Another area that’s lost its soul and the reason people went there in the first place. Yes, Soho used to be a bit shabby and seedy, but that’s what gave it its character.

Decent street food but I miss Soho
Nov 2019
I worked in Soho for 15 years, and have been back quite a bit recently. Berwick St Market has changed a lot. The old market traders are mostly gone, replaced by street food vendors.

On the one hand, they offer an affordable lunch now that all the old cafes have been replaced by trendy and expensive alternatives. But on the other hand, I miss the old Italian cafes and delis, like San Marco on Lexington Street, and a host of others.

I know you can't go back, but sometimes the old ways were better. It feels a lot like half a dozen other places around London now.

At least The Blue Posts is still there! Shame the old chip shop has gone though.

Good street market selling prepared food
Aug 2019 • Couples
There is a wide selection of ethnic foods to choose from. I opted for paella which was delicious. i took my food a few blocks away and ate my lunch at Soho Square which was very nice. The market also has a few fruit stands.

Fast street food venue
Jul 2019 • Solo
I remember this street market and its surrounding shops first back some 40 years ago and up to relatively recently it was a fresh fruit and veg and clothing market, resounding with calls and banter by the great characters running the stalls. These days it has morphed into a street food offering, with the usual choices of everything from Jamaican to Thai food. There are just a few of the old fresh produce stalls still left. Good that it’s still a street market, but it’s nothing very exceptional when there are so many similar street food venue in the centre of London.

Amazing smells, but the food was just okay.
Apr 2019 • Family
Lively afternoon market with varied food stalls. Great vibe and amazing smells, but the actual food we at from several vendors were just okay Nothing bad, but not great either. It was great for grabbing a quick bite between touring the city and fun to walk thru regardless.

Berwick street market has less goods and clothes sellers and more street food vendors..not bad if you work nearby..but somehow Soho is losing its soul.

Street Food Smelt Delicious.
Jul 2018 • Couples
The walkthrough Soho included Berwick Street where the market was in full swing. There are loads of stalls selling street food of every description and nationality. All of which smelt delicious.
We purchased a half kilo of cherries which we ate as we walked along towards Oxford Street.
The stones from the eaten cherries were put in a bag and placed in a bin that was provided.
A most lovely way to see our city. Highly recommended.

mainly food stores
Apr 2018 • Solo
I visited the street market on a Saturday. It's mainly find stalls. These look good and there were queues of people for the food. There was also a fruit and veg stall. on one side there's a lot if building work, which all adds to the local colour. On the other side of the street are some fashionable shops. Altogether quite a buzz but there are far more exciting markets to visit in London

Wonderful smokey Russian Caravan tea
Jan 2018 • Family
To this excellent tea shop in Soho for recovery tea and cake. Really delicious Russian Caravan black tea and really excellent GF courgette and lemon cake. Lots of people with beards and laptops ( sometimes both) generally relaxed and lively. They do chilli hot chocolate too. Place to go if you need reviving in Soho after a hard shop at Vintage Retro and Glassworks:-)

A waiting time
Sep 2017 • Solo
Visiting on a Saturday afternoon the market is a shadow of its old self, this is because one side of the street is being completely redeveloped. At the Soho end of the street another development is taking place. There were three stalls. On a positive note, the other side of the street has some very nice shops, and I am sure that the developers want to retain some of the old Berwick Street once the building work has been completed. At the minute Berwick Street is not worth visiting.
