Explore four of the Royal Parks seeing all the highlights via this fabulous incentive
Dec 2019
I would really recommend you do this walk. The guise of it being in memory of Princess Diana I found neither here nor there, but the fact you get to explore 4 of the Royal Parks and see all the highlights is a fabulous incentive. I have spent my life going up to London, but never had I penetrated into the parks or seen all they had to offer, so this seemed a perfect way to do so.

Map in hand (on my phone) just before Christmas off I went. Of course stating the obvious as it is a 7-mile loop you can start from which ever point you wish. The walk covers St James's Park, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. I went around sunset which proved a wonderful time of the day to do it for pictures. With Winter Wonderland going on I could do all of it bar one point which was The Four Winds Fountain.

Highlights include 3 palaces: Buckingham, Kensington and St James’s and 3 grand houses: Clarence, Spencer and Apsley. The Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall. Then all the highlights of the parks such as the Serpentine with its Lido, the Rose Garden and the Dell. Kensington Gardens Round Pond, Italian Gardens and St Grovor’s Well. Seminal statuary and memorials such as Hyde Park Corner, Achilles, Serenity and not forgetting The Esmé Percy Memorial. Plus the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain and Playground. I enjoyed discovering things like the Old Police House and the various parts of the Serpentine Gallery including the ‘Magazine’ extension designed by Zaha Hadid. Seeing Buckingham Palace across St James’s Park is always magical. The Royal Parks website is excellent at giving information on all these features.

Following the route with the use of the map and the markers on the ground was pretty easy. I think there were just two points where I was a little unsure as to if I was going the right way. Also some highlights are not on the map, but you do go past them such as the Peter Pan Statue and Henry Moore’s Arch. I walk quite briskly and it took me around 2 hours to complete the circuit. I’m not familiar enough with the park rules, but I’m sure you could probably do it by bike or scooter.

For me it was an excellent way to get a complete look at the parks. It was wonderful to see how many people there were throughout enjoying the parks for all different reasons like being on their way to Winter Wonderland. I would highly recommend you pull on your walking shoes and give it a go yourself taking in the beauty of these magnificent ancient urban parks and savour a bunch of history along the way.

Lovely

Whilst I didn’t follow the route of the seven-mile walk exactly, I saw nearly all of the things on the walk by picking my own route.

The walk takes you through four of the eight royal parks including: St James’s Park, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

During the walk you get to see: Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, St James’s Palace and Spencer House (which is the old London residence of the Spencer family).

The walk is adorned by numerous plaques int the ground.

A lovely idea worth visiting (at least part of the walk)
Aug 2019
The full ‘Diana Walk’ is 7 miles through four central London parks; we only completed perhaps a third within Hyde and Kensington Parks. The walks culminate in a lovely (though initially controversial) water feature in Hyde Park that was being enjoyed by a large number of young children when we visited

A really great tribute to the late Princess Diana.

It is warming to see that even today people still pay their respect to the Princess. Pay a visit to the Memorial and your tribute to her,.She was not only the Princess of the Wales, but a really important person for the whole planet.

Hidden gem

Started at Buckingham palace and goes for quite a long ways. Was a nice tribute and leads to a very thoughtful Diana Fountain/waterpark for kids.

Attractive walk

We did part of this walk and it has tempted me to return at a later date to do the full 7 miles which would be very pleasant.
