From a small grocery store in Piccadilly in 1707, has grown a celebrated store with an international reputation for the exclusivity and quality of the products it sells. Fortnum's Food Hall is an irresistible display of gourmet pleasures, from chocolates and biscuits to smoked salmon and Stilton, vintage marmalade and seasonal produce. Passionate about provenance, we are proud to recommend every jar, spoonful and slice for our hungry customers.

The area
Neighborhood: Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.

We have been visiting Fortnum and Mason for many years on our numerous visits to our beautiful capital city to browse and purchase the delicious produce and drinks. We love the range on offer, and how stunning the building is, the range of gifts, linens and how steeped in history the store is. During covid we regularly shopped online so that we continued with our treats. We also love that the store stocks great British designers such as Lulu Guiness which is a particular favourite of mine!

This visit we got talking a wonderful member of staff on the 2nd floor named Sherry who was so interesting and talkative, asking whereabouts we had travelled from. Upon learning it was soon to be our silver wedding anniversary, she offered us a glass of champagne each and we swapped details on the many places where we lived that she could visit as well as her recommending some places for us to call in the areas of London we liked to visit regularly. She was so lovely, she sent my husband off to the fresh produce department whilst we continued our chat. He returned with a basket full of lovely goodies and she carefully wrapped every item of our precious cargo so that it survived the journey north the following day.

I just wanted to put on record what an amazing asset she is to your fabulous store - we will be returning for many years to come. Thankyou Sherry xx

My best friend and I visited the Diamond Jubilee tea-room today (17/1/22) and we had a lovely time. Every single member of staff was fantastic, looking after our every need and making sure we were happy with our orders.

I would especially like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to Adrian, our lovely waiter. My best friend and I had never visited F&M before and were using a gift voucher - we weren't quite sure what to expect and I was initially feeling a little anxious and out of my depth in case I misunderstood the pricing plan. Adrian patiently explained everything and dealt with my worries politely and discreetly, assuring me at the end that the voucher covered everything and had already been redeemed and taken care of. This was after a wonderful meal during which he had diligently refreshed our tea and offered me seconds of the scrummy coronation chicken sandwiches! He made our day and I am very grateful to him, as well as all the wonderful staff who work at F&M for a lovely day out. My best friend and I came away determined to return next year!

Booking is a must and we were greeted by a very pleasant member of staff and led to our table at our allotted time.

The environment is very relaxed with no dress code and a mix of people dressed up for a big event and also people in jeans and trainers popping in for a cup of tea and a cake.

It’s impressive to see how much care is put into everything and all staff are incredibly professional and courteous.

We ordered a variety of hot and cold drinks, sundaes and cake and all were absolutely delicious.

Prices are understandably quite high but nothing extortionate and we left feeling we had received good value.

The 12.5%. service charge took the awkwardness out of how much to tip, and our server definitely earned it, so I hope she gets at least some of it!

I used to love Fortnum's and before covid, I was a regular customer.

I just called Fortnum's Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon to enquire whether they had diabetic options for afternoon tea. I explained that I had seen some reviews online stating that Fortnum's offer a diabetic afternoon tea option. I was about to ask if this was true but before I could even finish my question, the man on the other end of the line abruptly cut me off and launched into a monologue of how Fortnum's do not and have never offered a diabetic option. He further chastised me by saying it is not on the Fortnum's website and has never been there, and that I was wrong for saying it was.

I had to push back firmly to assert that I had not at any time suggested this was listed on the Fortnum's website but instead, as I stated very clearly at the start of the call, I had read reviews saying that this was option, and since I could not find it listed on the Fortnum's site, I was calling to check whether this was indeed an option or not.

Frankly, I was quite shocked by the way he reacted, it was so abrupt and dismissive. I had intended to book afternoon tea for 3 people, but if this is how they treat people on the phone, I would not expect better in person. Based on my experience today, I will not be booking at Fortnums ever again.

Afternoon tea: not the best or worst but definitely room for improvement. The general decor was nice, what you would expect from an esteemed establishment like Fortnum and Mason. The piano player live music gently playing in the background was nice. Servers were polite but lacked connection. We had several different ones who brought food over and dropped things off and one main one who seemed a bit green and did not communicate very well. We didn’t ask for any food refills. I only wanted to take my leftovers in a box and the waiter brought 1 box. I had to ask 3 times for another box so I could separate scones from the wet gelatinous desserts. Then he wouldn’t even give me a bag, saying the box was designed to be carried out. Ok? What the. They charge 10 pence for a paper bag on the shopping side so I don’t get it. Here is my biggest suggestion for improvement in service to the management: when the server greets the guests, ask them if they have dined here before and if not, give a basic rundown on how the tea service works and extras/refills and what you can expect and then guests won’t be so confused. I saw every guest around me seated, given menus and asked right away what they wanted. I had already done a lot of research beforehand but all the tourists around me were confused and asked so many questions that could have been cleared up from the beginning!
My other disappointment was the food. Sloppy presentation of the cakes. Also the scones were very dry and crumbled as soon as I cut them in 2. Kind of tasteless as well. The sandwiches were very basic. Curry chicken is so overdone. Where is the creativity? Ham sandwich. Sad. The teas were fabulous. Only wish the hot water they used was hotter.
I wanted to love this tea experience for the history and beauty of the establishment but for $190 for two people including service charge, it did not meet expectations. Many people recommended other places to have high tea but I wanted to give Fortnum and Mason a chance.

I visited the Fortnum & Mason Jubilee Tea Room on 9th July 2021, I visited after a recommendation from a friend, however I was very disappointed with their service and quality of food.
Over the years, I have been to several high tea’s in London within the same price bracket as Fortnum & Mason, however this has to be by far the worst experience.

I had asked specifically for a halal afternoon tea, upon arrival I was advised that it would be best that I choose the finger sandwiches option as they could not cater for halal.
The finger sandwiches were soggy and the presentation was poor.

The tea which was served was cold and the waitress did not even bother explaining what the tea was, she just plonked the two pots down on the table.

However the worst part of the afternoon was that after returning from the washroom, I found that the table I was seated on had been cleared. We hadn’t even paid for the afternoon tea and had to go to the reception desk to make payment.

To make the situation worse, we had unfinished scones and cakes. My friend also left her napkin on the chair, which clearly should indicate to the staff that we will be returning to the table. The staff completely ignored this and chose to clean the table.

I am aware that the table is booked for 1 hour and 45 minutes, however our booking was for 1.15pm, we were forced to leave at 2.40pm due to the incompetency of the staff.

I would not visit again and would definitely not recommend this place to anyone else.

You are better off visiting other high tea’s in London within in the same price bracket where you will receive excellent service and food

I had two lovely days in London after a long Oxford trip . I stayed in Victoria area of London so walked to palace ( 2 blocks from my hotel ) then thru St James park , using my iPhone to navigate to F & M ! It took me straight thru this beautiful park and to Knightsbridge, I passed Christie’s auction house then saw the lovely man “guarding “ the main doors ( the guys in full dress regalia and white gloves - cannot believe I forgot to take a pic of them !)
So I side is a smorgasbord or food, teas , biscuit tins etc . They had a musical tin for the platinum jubilee ( I was there in August 22 prior to losing HRH !)!
I looked around at the hampers and was told I could “ make my own “ hamper to fill as I decide ! (Also yea they ship to USA just not all the food can go out of EU ) I got home and ordered a gorgeous huge hamper and filed it w several biscuit tins . Sadly tho they are now out completely of the jubilee musical tins , because of the death of HRH Elizabeth.
I don’t think enough Americans realize that for I only about 25$ they will fill your hamper w your choices ( I had stuff like water bottles tea towels , even a shipping bag !but for less than 200$ I got one delivered to my fire in less than a week !
This store is an absolute must do but always shop online to avoid trying to take this stuff back w you !
Check out the Xmas ornaments too ! Especially the tiny hamper ! See my pics for a look .
Just nice people all through this store ! I didn’t eat ij her but bought some lovely chocolate!

Took my elderly Aunt for a treat of afternoon tea.
The WHOLE experience was absolutely amazing. The food, the ambiance, the top notch service from “Tushar” was grade A ++++
Highly recommend, the Platinum Jubilee tea special, with a couple of glasses of champagne, and special cups of Masala Chai.
We will definitely return.
Thank you Tushar and Fortum and Mason, for making this a very special event.

If I looked for a fault with this Establishment I swear I'd not find one . Honestly this place is off the scale and I don't mean as it's my 1st ever visit because it's not. We come to London for a break around 4 times a year and always call here. This place is fantastic and gives you the impression weather you have one million in your bank account or £1 your all treated the same so if anybody is wondering weather it's too posh for them to call in and look at there merchandise don't this place is fantastic. We always purchase the royal blend loose tea (£49) kg to take bk home and we always use the Parlor For Tea, Coffee , Ice Creme Treats plus our last visit we tried the Carrot cake and was absolutely Amazing. Priced at £7.50 , Tea was £5.95 , Bottle of Fortnum and Mason Pilsner Lager was £4.75 and once again Fortnum Quality. A particular staff member on this visit was Heather on the Tea Counter and to say she Went Truly beyond here educational skills in explaining the Levels of Tea ect is an understatement, This lady truly must be an Asset to Fortnum,s Staff members. In fairness though every member of staff in this store are all polite , welcoming , helpful, and who ever is in charge of Fortnum and Mason Recruitment Policy are doing an Excellent Job. The Toilets are immaculate the whole store is clean , tidy , well singed and priced so your not having to run around asking staff members about the price of an item like you have to in some stores. Try the cellar Bar too if you want to relax with a glass of beer , vino , or just a coffee. Honestly this place could not improve In any department and believe me that's a hard act to follow. Do not pass this Gem of an Established Bye,,,

Booked & paid for afternoon tea as a wedding gift for a couple on their honeymoon. They failed to record the payment on their system. The couple spent 40 mortifying minutes sitting there being told “there is no money” and hassled by waiters about the payment. The team told them the payment issue was causing “chaos” and made them feel so awkward when they could’ve just phoned the reservations team to confirm the payment had been made.

I phoned reservations myself after 10 mins who said they would call the restaurant and let them know the payment had been made. This didn’t happen! I was then told that someone from the restaurant would call me back…36 hours later and I’m still waiting for an explanation and a refund. After 40 awkward, embarrassing, stressful minutes, the couple left.

The poorest service I have ever received from a shambolic company whose reputation belongs in the gutter along with its “customer service”.
