If you arrive early, that is at least 40 minutes ahead of your train departure time, King's Cross affords a number of eating places as well as some shops. Also, some historical/comical things to see, read or do: e.g the queue to take photos at Harry Potter's Hogwarts departure platform nine-three quarters, is never ending. Saw this whilst on a hop on hop off bus and thought as it was on the Monopoly board the exterior would be grander than what it was, so I didn't get off to explore further.

This is a good hub for visiting various cultural locations - British Library, Wellcome Collection, even the British Museum if one is prepared to walk through very interesting back streets for about 15 to 20 minutes. It also is near to a huge number of excellent eating places in Granary Square, Caledonian Road etc. And if one likes Scotch Pies, the outdoor market near one of the exits has a small stall selling them, albeit at £3.80, but very good quality, and especially as Borough Market does not have a stall selling them these days.…
